bushels, and the corn crop at 900,000,000.

an increased vote over last year's. He has
made a good officer the people appreciate
his services.

The result was the election of the old offi
cer, Gordon R. Got?. The next highest vote

that the Wide Awakes have determined to
discard their old uniforms and adopt the
'Tartan plaid and long military cost," in

ton. - Wi are onder continued obligations to
Senator Bound for Legislative favors; also
Henry S. Molt and Hies'.er Cl)mer, fur late
speeches delivered by them upon 'an act
for the commutation of the tonnage duties.'
Both speeches contain strong argumeuts
against the repeal of the tonnage tax.

The Township Elections for this county,

We have all the officers elect, we believe,
correctly compiled, for the especial benefit
of our patrons. In some of the townships
the contest for the officers was close the
Democrats and Republicans making a party
matter out it. in this district, Bloom, the
Republicans formed a ticket entirely ol their

own material ; and pretty generally, it was
nuccessful, they being rather largely in the
-majority. The party that oor influence was
with, succeeded to eleet a Constable, re
elected an officer for Overseer of the Poor,
and re-elected oor Assessor. All things
passed off smoothly, and we hope to the
entire satisfaction of all those concerned.
The New Ccnntj Bill.
The Bill before our Legislature for the
erection of Lackawanna County was still
in Committee when the Legislature took the
races. Messrs. Palmer, Slocum, Spangen
erg and Byrne had appeared before the
Committee and made statements, in favor
of the bill, aad Col. Hillman against it, and
upon the request of the latter a report upon
the bill was deferred until after the recess,
to enable him uto consult his constituent'
We do not learn that Messrs. Pughe and
Ketchom, upon whose action the fate of the
bill depends, have yet declared themselves
in the matter, but have seemed thus far to
-waive responsibility, and allow others to do
the fighting. But little interest is felt in the
