of the practice of boys in that town tearing
hand-bills. This is more or less practiced
in our borough, and should any be found in
the act and be proseouted they would have
themselves only to blame.
We are informed there i a purse of f30

all commou trotters. No trained horse al

Poultry Stolek. Not long since the hen
house belonging to Thomas Painter, Esq.,
of this place, was robbed of all its chickens.
The thief look every fowl, and fine ones
they are said to have been. This is the
deed of a most malicious scoundrel. Hang
ing would not be to tevere a punishment
for him. Mr. Painter is one of our
most venerable and highly esteemed citi
zens. The Republicans of Danville and vicinity,
rave a supper at the Montour House in
Danville on Friday livening the 26th ult , in
honor of the election of Franklin Bound to
the State Senate from this District. We
learn that the suppe r was participated in by
many citizens ot that place. The man whom
they wished to honor was, quite unex
pectedly, deprived the pleasure of enjoying
any of the luxuries of this sapper, through
xhe interference of professional business.
Hallow Eve. Last Wednesday evening
was Hallow Eve the night of projects and
bell ringing the witching night when
golden haired lassns" consult the oracle of
late to learn who their future husbands will
be the night when little urchins steal slyly
from under the parontal eye, and carry big
clubs, knock ail the:r neighbors doors, and
with the war cry "Holler Eve," shoot behind
a friendly corner, and view with exquisite
relish the discomfiture of impatient nervant
girls who open the doors the night of fun,
frolic, and deviltry f;enerally.
'The Republicans of this vicinity partici
pated in a Pole Railing at Rupert on last
"Saturday afternoon. The services of the
Bloomsburg Corset Band were engaged for
the occasion. Tte day, as every body
knows, was a rainy one, especially the af
ternoon. In spite of the rain the few Repub
Jicans present labored faithfully nearly all
th afternoon in raiding the pole. Alt least
we are so informed..' The number in atten
dance was not large, enthusiastic or dty. But
they were of the fsiithfai kind. It poured
down at times, almost, in streams of tor
icenls, but so determined were the Colonel
and Palemon that the pole must go up, and
! it did go up, after &iong and tedious . strug
gle. The next thinj In order was a speech.
Col. P., if we are correct, made a lew re
, marks to the boys; as they alwayi style
their crowd, and tbun decamped. Tho editor
-of the Republican was advertised ' to speak,
I and as a matter of course did. ' And, as the
; 3ay was so unfavorable for their proteedings
the Doctor no doubt felt much more like
f hammering the Democracy, which it is not
likely h failed to dc-

RAYMOND S FAMILY
SEWING MACHINE!
patented march 9, 1858.
I'RIPE 10 RACII.
TJESSRS. ZUPIMNGER & ROBBINS, of
Bloomsburg, having purchased the ex
clusive r'mht of the above valuable Impro
ved Cheat Patent Sewing Machine, for
the County of Columbia, will be happy lo
supply their friends with the article lor ihe
acconiriK'dalionof themselves and families.
The following are some of Ihe superior
advantages ibis implement possesses, viz:
1. Il sews from 400 to 600 tight stitches
per minute.
2. Double thread Machines aie from the
more complicated character of iheir mech
anism invariably managed and threaded 1
with more or less difficulty ; not so with
RAYMOND'S, a child can manage it in two
hours, and it is threaded easier thaa a com
mon needle.
3. One of the most valuable features of
this Machine, is the smallness and Ihe
compactness of its mechanism. (
4. I can be attached to a board, labia or
stand, in operating order, and removed in
less than half a minute.
5. It greatly economizes the thread, and
yet produces a seam, sufficiently strong for
any work lor which it is intended, a qual
ification not known to all kinds of Sewing
Machines.
6. No human hand is capable of produ
cing a seam so regular and systematic.
The seam is so strong if well done, thai ihe
strongest material will tear before the
seam will give way.
7. Aiiioiij the array of Pa'ent Sewing
Machines, there are none so cheap and
durable as Raymond's Patent, but no Ma- I
chine is adapted to all kinds of work as
expe'ience has proven. There are perhaps
none so realy useful, doing such a variety
of wore tor the immediate use of the fam
ily circle, and at such a moderate price as
RAYMOND'S PATENT.
8. The operator can shape his eam just
as he pleases, waves, leaves and flowers,
etc., can be represented or imitated.
9. It is particularly adapteu to atl kinds
of stitch ir g such as gentlemen's shirts,
bosoms, ris-ibanJs, collar, etc., ami ail
kinds of ladies' sewing, including silks,
lawns, delaines, calicoes, dusters, etc., ex
cepting for men's heavy wear, this Machine
is rather too I'mht of construction.
10. Bui we all admit, that the advantage
i lo health, and principally to the vision or
I eyesight, inouced by ihe use of Sewing
m .i . ., ... r;.. 1 1 .i
Hi at ni uc, euijitt!5t5 iii nil i it an unici au-
vantaps.
;i. Thi Machine fastens the seam al
ways itself, but if the operator wishes it
unfastened or open, there is a way for il
loo, thus jou ran have il fastened or not,
as you please, which is, sometime.-, espe
cially for beginners, a very favorable cir
cumstance. If the seam is left unfastened,
you can draw it out in three seconds and
save the thread.
For sale by ihe nndersined, at their re
spective residences, in Bloomsburg, who
will put the Machine in operation and give
all necessary instruction.

MARK THESE FACTS !
THE TESTIMONY OF THEJirORLL1,
HO LLOWAY'S OINTMENT.
BAD LEGS. BAD BREATS, SORKS
AND ULCERS.
All description of tore 'are remeJiabla
by ihe proper and diligent ui of this ines

wound logvther is a folly ; for should tl5

fury in a few days. The only rational Rial
Mircessfol treatment, as indicated by nature,
ii to reduce the infianiaiion in and ato'.i
the wound and le sooihe the riigliboriig
part4 by rubbing in plenty of the Ointment
as salt is forced into meat.
DIPTHERIA. ULCERATED SORK
THROAT, AND SCARLET AND
OTHER FEVERS.
Any of tbe above diseases may be cured
by well rubbing Ihe Ointment three times
a day into the che-t, throat and neck of ill
patient; it will soon penetrate, and rivh
immediate relief. Medicine taken by tho
mouth must operate upon the whole sys
tem ere i s influence can be felt in any lo
cal part, uhereas the Ointment will do is
work at once. Whoever tries the unguent
in the arove manner ol ihe disease named,
or anv similar disorders aflectiog the chest
and throat, will find themselves relieved as
by a charm.
PILES, FISTULAS, STRICTURES.
The above class of complaints will be
removed by nightly fomenting the pari
idi warm water, and then by most effect
ually rubbing in tha Ointment. Persons
suffering Iroio lhee direful complaints
should lose not a moment in arresting their
progress. Ii should be understood that it
is not sufficient merely to smear the Oint
mer.i on the a Heeled parts, but il must be
well rubbed in for some considerable tim
two or three times a day, that il may b
taken into the system, whence it will re
move any hidden sore or wound as effect
ually as though palpable to ihe eye. Triers
again bread end water poultices, after rub
bing in of the Ointment, will do ere at ser
vice. This is the only sure treainientfor
females, cases of cancer in the stomach, or
where there may be a general bearing

INDISCRETIONS OF YOUTH ; SORES
AND ULCERS.
Blotches, as also swelling, nej, with
certainty, be radically cored if the Oint

oiher way tfiev only dry up in one placo

ment will remove the humor fiom the sys
tem, and leave the patient a vigorous and
healthy being. It will require time with
the use of the Pills to ensure a lasting cure
DROPSICAL SWELLINGS, PARALYSIS
AND SI IFF JOINTS.
Although the above complaints differ
widely in their origin and nature, yet they
all require locl treatment. Many of the
worst cases, of soch diseases, will yield in
a comparatively shorl space of time whn
this Ointment is diligently rubbed into the
pars affected, even af er every oter mean
