IT is FKARD that the grass and clover crops
in many parts of this county, have been
slightly injured by the successive freezing
ami thawing of the past w inter.
WE HAVE been requested to announco
that there will be preaching in the Court
House of this place by REV J. R. SHANAFELT
on next Sabbath at 3 o'clock.
FOR THE LAST few days we have had the 1
pleasure of adding quite a respectable num
ber of new names to our subscription list.
This is encouraging to any publisher—the
adding ol new names to his list. We still
ean find room for a few* more, and signs in
dicate that we are a going lo have them.
WE notice that our Merchants, Mechan
ics and business men generally, are pre
paring lo do a more extensive business, the
4he coming year, than at any previous time 1
heretofore We will notice a lew next week.
THE MOVING season will soon be in vogue,
when many changes will lake place. A
lover of reading very seldom tails to notify
the printer, of whom lie takes a paper, that
he has or is about to change his resilience.
In our short publishing career we have
found this to be invariably the case.
Ma. A. C. MENSCH has removed the Ex
press Office to the Stote Room of Mr. Geo.
Weaver, a few doors above the STAR Office, i
Mr Mensch designs, in connection with the
,Express business, retailing flour and feed, j
and asks a liberal patronage from the public. '
With these two branches combined he may
be able lo realize a good livelihood.
IN the Senatorial proceedings of the 10th
inst. we learn the following: "On motion
of Hon. R. Keller, Senate Bill No. 627. "An
Act to widen the eastern extension of Third
Street, llloomsbnrg, Columbia County. On
the final passage of the bill the yeas and
nays resulted in sixteen affirmative ami sev
en negative So the question was deter
mined in the affirmative.
YOUNG married men should not frequent
places of bad repute and worthlessly spend
all their small change and then go home in
the stilly hours of the night and thrash their
wives because they have nothing in the
house lo eaf.

To lash the rascals through the land.
WE ARE enjoying most splendid weather
at present writing, and it is hoped will con
tinue. The time of year is fast approach
ing when we should have fine weather, and
the plough shear buried 4 or 5 inches in the
soil in preparing it for the reception of the
seed grain. The farmer's winter recess is
about gone. The song will soon be, "hold
(he plow or drive."
DANVILLE HOTEL.- -This well conducted

and fast approaching the bight of populari

erection in this place on Third Street. We j
learn that it will he a frame building of or
dinary size. The site for this edifice ip rath
er a good one, and if the citizens succeed in
getting Third Street widened at the eastern
extention, with a splendid church-building
upon it, much will be added to the appear
ance ol that part of the town.
ANOTHER NEW M. D.—At the close of the
winter session of the Pennsylvania Medi
cal College, in Philadelphia, a few weeks
since, Mr. JOSEPH R. EVANS, from Colum
bia county, graduated with the highest hon
ors and received the regular degree for the
practice of medicine. Mr. Evans is a very
worthy and studious young man; he has la
bored faithful and hard to attain his new po
sition. He has received a thorough training
in the medical science, at the hands of one
of the best faculties in the State, and is now
fully prepared for the practice of medicine.
May success attend him wherever lie may
launch his ba'que.
Columbia county is pretty well provided
for in the way of physcians ; she can boast
both of their good qualities and number.
WAGON MARINO.—This is a branch of bus
iness which is more extensive than is thought
to be, because the work, when turned out,
is at once put to common use, until the say
ing, "common ns a wagon," has attained
