    The Burning of ike stealer Rainbow
SETKNTY.riVe LIVES LOST.
NAMES OF SOME OF THE SAVED.
CINCINNATI, NOV. 24 —The Commercial of
this morning contains private despatches,
giving somsipariicblsrs of the burning of the
steamer Rainbow oc the Mississippi Ri f #r,
near Napoleon, Arkansas.
There were three hundred and forty seven
passengers aboard, including a Urge number
ol coal boatmen on the deck. The origin of
the fire is attributed to inrendiarisn.. The
(Otal loss is estimated at seventy-five, princi
pally deck passengers.
As soon as tho fire was discovered the
boat was tun ashore, where she was bnrned
to the watei s edge. The wind was blowing
a slid gnle a lew minutes after the fire broke
out, and the boat was soon enveloped in the
flames.
The steamer Minnesota, Itom New Orleans,
brought tho saved to Memphis. Among
thvm are the following: Thomas Maddock,
J. M. Carson, John May-berry and wile, Phil
udelphia.
the following named persons, who were
among the passengers on the steamer Rain
bow, hava been lost, vix: James Looghlin,
Hiram Cliatlesten, Alliance, Ohio; William
Chambers, Cincinnati, Ohio; John Gallagher,
sal;iteville, 0.; James Uranan, Allegheny-
City, Ka; James McLaughlin, Wm. Heir,
Vinatmrg, l'a.; George Craig, Birmingham,
Pa ; James MOtelf, Mch'eesporl, Pa.; Thos.
New house, Gsorgo Newman, Carrolton, Ky\;
Mrs. Bond, Memphis, Tenn ; a blind man,'
named Johnson, his wife and two daughters
Vaducah, Ky.
The books of tho steamer being destroyed,
no list of the lost can be furnished.
All the ofliceta of the boat were saved.

the Mtidusky "Ohio" Register that on Mon
day a descent wss made 011 the "Freo Love"'
establishment a: Retltn, Krie county, and K
S. Tylei, A. W. Smith, Mary Dame, Mary
I.awis, Sophrania Powers, Thomas lloinor,
and 1 homaa Wright were brought before rhe
mayor o! Sandusky on the charge of adulte
ry preferred against them. The Register
•ays:
The men were all respectably dressed,
store heavy moustaches, whiskers and long
hair. Of the woman, three in number, two
were dressed in IHoomer costume, the other
in ordinary long skirls. They all wore their
bait in long cutis, and with the exception ol
Mrs. Mary I.ewis, looked cheerful and oven
defiant. The hlstdby ol Mrs. Lewis is a sad
one. She is the wile ol Mr. Harlow Lewis,
of Skeneateles, N. Y , a gentleman of high
respectability, is forty -two y ears of age, and
•he mother of three children, the youngest ol
whom, a little fellow ol live years, neenmpa
nied her t etoie the court. She was induced,
it ei pears, to leave her homo and join the
Fieo Love Association. The mayor has not
yet disposed ol the rase.
