The eminent geologist Dr. Ghns. T. Jackson
of Boston, bae made a geological survey of the
land, and analysed the coal, die iron ore and
limestone. This report together with maps
will be furnished lo inquirers.
FocnTH—Three Railroads ore laid out thro'
this properly. The Sunhuiv and Duo Ituilroad
gives us a market for our coal to the lakes—it
runs from Erie lo l'hiiadelpliia. A large part
of the Road has been fiui-hed, and is now in
tunning order. A heuvy force is now working
from Erie towards our land in the western di
rectum, the means for the completion ol which
has been rat-cJ, it will soon be finished. The
Allegheny Valley "Railroad connects us with
New York, Boston and Fit'sburg. The Ve
nango Road connects us with the West.
Theie are already good Turnpike Roads
running through this property, various other
roads have been opened to accomniudutc the
emrgralion and settlement which has alioady
taken place.
There is tin opportunity equal lo it now of
fered to the man who wants lo provide himself
a home in an easy way, and make a settlement
where he can live in prosperity and independ
enre in a climate Perfectly Healthy.
No case of lever ever having been known to
occur in this settlement. It is not like going
to the liackwoodtt of the West, among perhaps
i.itoleront people, where there ie no society,
churches, or schools, where the price of land is
high, end where the emigrant, after betng used
to the healthiest climate in the world, lias to
endure sickness and pain, and perhaps ruins
his health and that of bis family. But here is
a thriving relllcmcnt having tlncc towns, con
taining churches, sehools, hotels, stores saw
indie, grist mills,and everything desired. There
is a tush market at hand. The lumber trade
last year amounted to ovor 'wo hundred million
tent of luit her. In a short lime, ■ wing to the
coal, it will licci me still mote valuable as a
number of iron wotks and manufactories will
soon be started; they are at present starting

who do not wish to go there, the payments
are such that they can easily buy a farm to

future, or to gain a competence by the rise
which will take place in the value of lands.

READING March 4th.
The undersigned, members ol the Commit
tee, do respectfully report, that we taw the
two Safes originally agree I cpon by barrels
& Herring and Evans & Watsfn, placed aide
by side in a furnace, viz: The Sate in use by
the Paymaster of the Philadelphia ami Read
ing Railroad Company, in his oh'ice at Read
ing, rn ami factored by Farrels & Herring, ami
the Safe in use by H A. Lantz, in bis store,
j manufactured by Evans & Watson, and pot
I in books and papers precisely alike.
| The lire was started at 8J o'clock, A. M.,
j and kept up until lour cords of green hickory,
I two cords dry oak and half chestnut top wood
I were entirely consumed, the whole tinder
• the superintendence of the subscribers, raem
| hers ol the Committee. The Safes were then
! cooled c(f with wa'.er, after which they were
| opened, agd the books and papers taken out
; by the Committee and sent to H. A. Laniz'a
j store for public examination, af er they were
I first examined and marked by tire Commit
j lee. The books arid papers taken from the
I Safe manufactured by Evans & Watson were
but slightly affected by the intense heat,
while those taken from the Safe manufac
tured by Farrels & Herring were, in onr judg
ment, damaged fully fifteen per cent, more
than those taken from Evans ic Watson's
i Safe.
