LOTTERIES."
THE well-known Maryland Consolidated
Lotteries, of which K. FRANCE & Co. are
the managers, are chartered by the stale of
Maryland, and a commissioner elected by
the people, who is sworn to superintend and
certify that everything connected with them
is done in a strictly honorable manner, and
that the interists of parlies who reside at a
distance are us well protected as if they
I themselves were present at the drawing.—
! Another fact which the managers call atten
j lion to, is, that all persons have a leg;l right
| to send orders for tickets to Maryland, at
' lotteries nre legalized by special law in that
j state. A lottery is drawn everyday of the
1 month. If no particular class is named, or- j
j ders are filled in the first drawing to take
place after the communication comes to
' hand. The prices of tickets vary from SI
to S2O. No tickets are, however, sent unless
I th o money ior the same is received with the
I order. The drawings are upon the principle
I of one number on each ticket (after the Ha
v ana plan,) and Ternary combination. Prizes
! vary in amount from #2O lo SIOO,OOO. All
j orders for tickets or packages will receive
i prompt attention, and the drawing mailed to
{ all purchasers immediately after it is over.

IT is even so. A variety of barley has
been discovered in the gulches of the
Himalayan Mountains, entirely f'ee from
those annoying and poisonous beurds, at
tached to all our common varieties.
* The undersigned obtained 7 grains of this
new variety three years ago, and being much
pleased with its general appearance and pro
| ductiveness, has gpared no means to muhi
| ply this small quantity as fast as the Shang
] hais and other birds would allow,
j lis merits lor grinding or malting have not
j been tested, and the quantity is now too
small to squander in that way, when every
j tiller of the soil who sees it, is anxious to
have a few grains, not doubling it will prove
a valuable acquisition. I have sufficient
however, to lurnish all persons interested
who will be likely to see this notice, with
one head each, containing 30 to 60 grains.
Send me your address, on a stamped envel
ope and I will enclose a head by return
mail, with printed instructions for cultiva
