It gives me pleasure to add loy testimony to
the professional ability of the author of the
"Medical Manual," Numerous ca.es of disease
of the genital organs, some of thein of long
standing, have come under my notice, in which
his skill has been manifest in restoring to per

been considered beyond medical aid, In the
treatment of seminal weakness, or disarrange
merit of the functions produced by self-abuso

or in the niofession. I have been acquainted
with the Author some thirty years, and deem it
no more than justice to him as well as kindness
to the unfortunate victim of early indiscretion

skill and integii'.y they may safely contide
themselves.

A NORWEGIAN AND LAPLAND TALE;
—oa ,
LIKE AND LOVE IN NORWAY.
Translated from the German of Theodore
Mngge, by ED\VAIID Joy Monies, author ot
'•Travels in the East," ''The Turkish Ein
piie," &c.
Price in cloth, 81,25 In two parts, paper, 81
THE Morgenblalt, a high authority in Belle
Leilre criticism iu Germany, says of this
work :
"This popular writer has aguin displayed
his genius in H graphic and interesting nar
ration of entirely new and attractive scenes.
His romance introduces us IO a region with
which lie ie thoroughly acquainted fiotn per
sonal observation, hut which is a rare and
almost untrodJen field of fiction—the re
mote neighborhood of the North Pole, and
tho-e icy, desert steppes, where the Laplan
der pnisues his wandering life of privation
and suffering. His life-like descriptions of
the manners and customs of this curious
people, and the Norwegian settlers on the
coasts are drawn with such power as in a
wakeu the keenest interest in his brilliant
story, and to kenp the attention of the reader
intensely excited from the firat to the la-l
page. The characters are portrayed with a
rare skill and fidelity to nature, and the
whole composition cannot fatl to augment
the reputation of the author, and to place
him in the front runk of German historical
novelists."
The reader will discover,, in his perusal of
this beautiful work of genius, that this praise
is fully merited; and he will nut fail to re
mark the high moral tone and pu-e senti
ment which pervades the whole composition
—the more striking Irem its contrast with
the depraved taste and corrupting influence
of so many of the works ol fiction of the
present day.
The great success of ''Alraja" in Germany,
where it has rapidly passed through several
editions, proves that the popular inind has
not lost its partiality for those who seek to
refine and elevate the iinasiinutioii, and to
base their hopes of success on an appeal to
the higher feelings of our nature.
