The great peculiarity and excellence of
Dr. Christie's Galvanic. Curatives,
consists in tha fact that they arrest and cure disease by
outward application, in place of the usual mode of drug
ging, and tthysickinc the patient, till exhausted Nature
ainu hopelessly under the infliction.
They strengthen the ichale system, equalize the circu

ENTIRELY AND PERMANENTLY CURED,
when all hope of relief had been given up, and every
thing else been tried in vain .
To illustrate the use of the GALVANIC BRLT,
suppose the case of a person afflicted with that bane of
civilisation, DYSrEI'HIA, or any other ( hrouic or Nerv
ous Disorder. In ordinary cases, stimulants are taken,* 1
whioh, by their action on the nerves and musclea of the
stomach, afford temporary relief, but which leave tha
r patient in a lower state, and with injured faculties, after
the action thus excited has ceased. Now compare this
•with the effect resulting from the application of the GAL
VANIC BELT. Take a Dyspeptic sufferer, in the
worst symptoms of an attack, and simply tic the Belt
■•round the Body, using the Magnetic Fluid as directed.
In a short |criod the insensible perspiration will act oo
'the positive elomout of the Belt, thereby causing a Gal
vanic circulation which will pais on to the negauve, and
thence hack again to the positive, thus keeping up a con
tinuous Galvanic circulation throughout tha aystem
Thus the most severe cases of DYSrEI'SIA ore PER.

CURE OF

REV. DR. LANDIS. A CLERGYMAN
of New Jersey, of distinguished attainments and exalted
reputation
SIDNEY, New Jersey, July 12, 1948.
Da. A. H/Ciiaiaria—Dear Sir: You wMi to know of
me what has been the result in my own case, of the
application of THE GALVANIC BELT AND NECK
LACE. My reply is as follows :
For about twasaly yeara I had been stifle ring from
Dyspepsia. Every year the symptom became worse,
nor could I obtain permanent relief from any course
of medlc"ul treatment whatever. About fourteen years
eincc, in consequence of frequent exposure to the
weather, in the discharge of my pastoral duties, I
became subject to a severe chronic Rheumatism, which
for rear after year, caused nie indescribable anguish
Farther: in the winter of '45 end '4O, in conse
quence of preaching a gioat deal in my own and
various other churches in this region, I was attacked
:hy the Bronchitis, which soon became so severe as
to require an immediate suspension of my pastoral
labors. Afy ncraens ay at em wat now thoroughly proa
t rated, and as my Bronchitis became worse, so also did
my Dyspepsia and Rheumatic affection thus evincing
that these disorders were connected with each othei
through the medium of the Nervous System in the
whole pharmacopoeia there scorned to be no remedial
agent which could reach and recuperate my Nervoua
System ; every thing that I had tried tor this purpose had
completely failed. At last I was led by my friends to ex
jmine your inventions, and (though with no very san
quiiie hopes of their efficiency,) I determined to tVy the
effect of tai> application of the GALVANIC BELT AND

ANOTHER SCIENTIFIC WONDER
JPIBIPBIIKr 8
THE TRUE DIGESTIVE Ft UID,
OR
A Great Dyspepsia curar, Prepared from
RENNET, ot the fourth Stomach of the O*,
after directions ef Baron Liebtg, the great
Physiological Chemist, by J. S. Houghton,
M. D., No.t l, North Eighth Street, Pbila
delphia, Pa.
This is a truly wonderful remedy for Indi
gestion, Dyspepsia, Jaudice, Liver Com
plaint, Constipation, and Debility, Curing
after Nature's own method, by Nature's own
agent, the Gastric Juice.
Ey Half a spoonful of this Fluid, infused
in water, will digest-or dissolve, Five Pounds
of Roast Beef in about two hours, out -of the
stomach.
' DIGESTION. ••
Digestion is Chiefly performed im the
stomach by the aid of a fluid 'which freely
exudes from the inner coal of that organ,
when in a state ot health, called tho Gastric
Juice. This fluid is the Great solvent of the
Food, the Purifying, Preserving, and Stimula
ting Agent of the stomach and intenstines.
Without it there will be no digestion,—no
conversion of food into blood, and no nu
trition of the body; but rather a foul, torpid,
painful, and destructive condition of the
whole digestive apparatus. A weak, half
dead, or injured stomach producesjro good
Gastric Juice, und hence the disease, dis
tress and debility which ensue.
I'KPSIN AI>D RENNET.—Pepsin is the chief
element, or great Digesting Principle of the
Gastric Juice. It is found in great abun
dance in the solid parts of the human stom
ach after de ith, and sometimes causes the
stomach to digest itself, or eat i'self up. It
is also found in the stomach of animals, as
the ox, calf, &c. It iithe material used by
farmers in makirg cheese, called Rennet,
the effect of which has long been the spe
cial wonder of the dairy. The curdling of
milk is the first process of digestion. Ren
net possesses aslonfslii-g power. The stom
ach of a calf will curdle nearly one thou
sand times its own weight of milk. Baron
Liebig states that, 'One part of Pepsin dis
solved in sixty thousand parts of water, will
digest meat and other food." Diseased
stomachs produce no good Gastric Juice
Rennet or Pepsin. To show that litis want
may be perlecliy supplied, we quote the
following
SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE! ,
BAKON LIKDIG, in Lis celebrated work on
Animal Chemistry, says: "An Artificial Di
gestive Fluid analogous to the Gastric Juice,
may be readily prepared from the nucous
membrane of the stomach of the Call, in
which various articles of food, as moat and
eggs! will be softened, changed, and diges
ted, Just in the same manner as they would
be in the human stomach."
Dr. Pereira, in his famous treatise on
"Food and Diet," published by Fowlers &
Wells, New York, page 35. stales the same
great fact, and describes the method of prep
aration. There are few higher authorities
than Dr. Pereira.
Dr Combe, in .his valuable writings on
the "Physiology of Digestion," observes
tliat "a diminution of the due quantity of
the Gastric Juice is a prominent and all-pre
vailing cause of Dyspepsia;" and he states
that "a distinguished professor of medicine
in London, who was severely afflicted with
this complaint, finding every thing else to
fail, had recourse to the Gastric Juice, ob
tained from the stomach of living animals,
which proved completely successful."
Dr. Graham, author of the famous works
on "Vegetable Diet," says: "it to a remar
kable fact in physiology, that the stomachs
of animals, macerated in water, impart to
the fluid the property of dissolving various
articles of food, and of effecting a kind of
artificial digestion of thern in no wise dif
ferent from the natural digestive process."
Dr. Simon's great work, the "Chemistry
of Man," (Lea & Blan-'hard, Phila., 1846,
pp. 321-2): "The discovery of PEPSIN
fo ms a new era in the chemical history of
Di gestion. From recent experiments we
know that food is dissolved as rapidly in an
artificial digestive fluid, prepared from Pep
sin, as it ie in the natural Gastric Juice it
self."
Professor Dnnglison of the Jefferson Col
lege, Philadelphia, injhis great work oil Hu
man Physiology, devotes more than fifty
pages to an examinaiion of this subject.
His experiments with Dr Beaumont, on the
Gastric Jnice, obtained from the living hu
man stomach and from animals are well
known. "In all cases," he "digestion
occurred as perfectly in the artificial as the
natural digestions."
As a DYSPEPSIA CURER, Dr Houghton's
preparation of Pepsin has produced the
most marvellous effects, curing cases of De
bility, Emaciation, Nervous Decline, and
dispeptic Consumption, supposed to be on
the very verge of the grave. It is imposs
ble to give the details of cases in the limit
of this advertisement—but authenticate
certificates have been of more than two hun
dred Remarkable Cures, in Philadelphia, Now
York, and Boston alone. These were
nearly all desperate cases, and the cures
were not only rapid and wonderful, but per
manent.
It is a great Nervous Antidote, and par
ticularly useful for tendency to billious dis
order, Liver Complaint, Fever and Ague, or
badly treated Fever and Ague, and the evil
effects of Quinine, Mercury, and otherdmgs
upon the Digestive organs, after a long sick
ness. Also, for excess in eating, and the
too free use of anient spirits. It almost rec
onciles Health with Intemperance.
OLD STOMACH COMPLAINTS.—There is no
form of Old Stomach Complaints which it
does not seem to reach and remove at once.
No matter how bad they may be, it gives
Instant Relief 1 A single dose removes all
the unpleasant symptoms, and it only needs
to be repeated, lor a short time, to make
these good effects permanent. Purity of

Dr. Swayne—Dear Sir—Being severely af
flicted with a violent cold and cough, which
settled upon my lungß attended with great
debility, soreness in my side, that I could
scarcely breathe, spitting of blood, no ap
petite, could get no rest at night, owing to
the severity of my cough, would spit as
much as apint of blood at a time. Thia
mournful state of things continued until I
almost despaired of being cured, having
tried physicians and numerous things with
out relief; but having heard of the great vir
tues of your Compound Syrup of Wild Cherry,
and its being approved ol by physicians of
the first eminence, I concluded to make a
trial of it, and am happy to state that three
bottles performed a perfect cure; my sleep
is now undisturbed and sweet, and I firmly
believe that to your medicine I am indebted
for this great cure.

CELEBRATED BITTERS,
PREPARED ST
DR. C. N, ICKIOII,
AT THE
GERMAN MEDICINE STORE,
No, 120 Arch Street, Philadelphia,
Their power over the above diseases is
not excelled, if equalled, by any other rep
aration in the United States, as the cures
attest, in many cases after skilful physicians
had failed.
These Bitters are worthy the attention of
invalids. Possessing great virtues in the
rectification of diseases of the Liver afid l is
ser glands, exercising the most searching
powers in weakness and affections of the di
gestive organs, they are, withal, safe, cer
tain and .pleasant.
Read and be Convinced.
The Hon. Charles D. Hineline, Editor of
the "Camden Democrat," the best paper in
West Jersey, says, July 21: —
"Hoop LAND'S GERMAN BITTERS." —"We
have seen many flattering notices of this
medicine, and the source from which they
came, induced us to make inquiry respect
ing its merits. Frorr inquiry we were pet
suaded to use it. and must say we found
it specific in its action upon diseases of the
liver and digestive organs, and the powerful
influence it exerts upon nervous prostration
is really surprising. It calmp and stregthens
the nervesj bringing them into a state of re
pose, making sleep refreshing.
[From the "Boston Bee."]
The editor said, Dec. 22d—
"Dr. Hoofland's Celebrated German titUrs
for the cure of Liver Complaint, Jaundice,
Dyspeysia, Chronic or Nervous Debility, is
deservedly one of the most populnr medi
cines of the day . These Bitters have been
used by thousac.de, and a friend at our elbew
says he has hint.self received an effectual
and permanenl cure of Liver Complaint
from the use of tins remedy. We are con
vinced that, in ilia use of these Bitters, tho
patient constantly gains strength and vi^or —
a fact worthy a( {rent consideration. They
are pleasant in ta Ito and smell, and can be
nseil by person! • vrith tho most delicate stem
achs with safety, under any circumstances.
Wc arc speaking from experience am) to the
afflicted we ndvi.-B their use."
Judge M. ML lioah, gentleman with
great scientific aitil ami litlerary attainments,
said in his "Kern York Weekly Messenger,"
January 6, 1850-.
l: Dr. Hooftani I's German Bitters. —Here is
a preparation which the leading presses in
the Union appea ruo he unanimous in re
commending, and the reason is obvious. It
is mado after a prescription furnished by
one o: the most celebrated physicians of
modern limes, the late Dr Christopher YVil
helm Hoofland. I'rnrfessor to the Univetsity
of Jena, Private Physician to the King of
Prussia, and one of the greatest medical wri
ters Germany has ever produced. He was
emphatically the enemy of humbug, and
theiefore a medicino of which ho was the
inventor and endoraor may be confidently re
lied on. He specially recommended it in
Liver Complaint, Dyspepsia, Debility, Ver
tigo, Acidity of the Stomach, Constipation,
and all complaints arising from a disordered
condition of the stomach, the liver and the
intestines. Nine Philadelphia papers express
their conviction of its excellence, and sev
eral ol the editors spreak of its effects from
•heir own individual experience. Under
those circumstances, we feel warranted, not
only in calling the attention of our readers
to the present proprietor's (Dr. C. M. Jack
son's) preparation, but in recommending the
article to all afflicted."
MORE EVIDENCE.
The "Philadelphia Saturday Gazelle," the
best family newspapei published in the Uni
ted States, the editor says of
DR. HOOFLAND'S GERMAN BITTERS.
"It is seldom that we recommend what
are termed Patent Medicines to the confi
dence and patronage of our readers; and,
therefore, when wo recommend Dr. Hoof
land's German Bitters, wo wish it to be dis
tinctly understood tbat we are not speaking
of the nostrums of the day, that are noised
about for a brief period and then forgotten
after they have done their guilty race of rais
chif, but of a medicine long established,
universally prized, and which has met the
hearty approval of the Faculty itself."
Evidence upoty evidence has been re
ceived (like the foregoing) from all sections
of the Union, the last three years, and the
strongest testimony in its favor, it, that there is
more of it used in the practice of the reau
lor Physicians of Philadelphia than all other
nostrums combined, a fact that can easily
be established, and fully proving that a sci
entific preparation will meet with their qui
et approval when presented even in this
form.
That this medicine wilt cure Liver Com
plaint and Dyspepsia, no one oan doubt, af
ter using it as diiected. It acts specifically
upon the stomach and liver—it is preferable
to calomel in all bilious diseases —the effect is
immediate. Thoy con be administejed to
FEMALE or INFANT with safety and reliable
benefit, at any time.
BEWARE OF COUNTERFEITS.
This medicine has attained that high char
acter which is necessary for all medicines to
attain to induce counterfeiters to put forth a
spurious article at th risk of the lives of
those who are innocently deceived.
