Harper's New Monthly Magazine.
The design of the Publishers, in Issuing
this work, is to place within the reach of thu
great mass of iheJAmeriean people tho un
bounded treasures of the Periodical Litera
ture of thd present day. Periodicals enlist
much of the literary talent and creativo ge
nius of tho ago. The best writers, in every
nation, devote themselves mainly to tlie Re
views, Magazines, and Newspapers. Through
the pages of thcsu, the most powerful his
torical essays, the most elaborate critical dis
quisitions, tho rno 4 exquisite delineations of
manners and of Nature, the highest Poetry
and tho must brilliant Wit, have, within tlio
last ten years, found thoir way to tho public
heart.
The ablest and best produciiona of Lamar
tine, Dickens, Alison, Lever, Bulwer, Croly,
and Macauley, arc lound in Reviews, News
papers, and Magazines. Their productions,
howover, intermingled with much that is of
merely local and transient interest, are scat
tered through scores of Periodicals, so as to
make it obv ; usly impossible that, under
present circumstances, any considerable
number even of the reading public, aud
much more, that the great mass of the com
munity, should have an opportunity of be
coming familiar with them.
The Publishers of the Now Monthly Mag
azino intend to remedy this evil, ana place
such ol the Periodicul Literature of the da),
as lias commanding interest, in tho hands ol
all who liavu the slightest desire to become
acquainted with it. Each number of their
Magazine will contain 144 pages octavo, in
double columns. The volumes of a single
year, therefore, will presort nearly two thou
sand pages of the Miscellaneous Literature
of the ago. Thu Magazine will transfer to
iis pages, as rapidly as they may be issued,
the continuous tales of Dickens, Bulwer,
Croly, Lever, Warren, and other distinguish
ed contributors to British periodicals: arti
cles of commanding irterest from all the
leading Quarterly Reviews of both Great
Britain and the United Sta'es: critical noti
ces of die publications of tho day; speech
es and addresses of distinguished men upon
topics of universal interest: notices of e
vents in Science, Literature, and Art, in
which the people at largo have an interest,
&0., &e. Special regard will be had to such
articles as relate to the economy of social
life, or lend,to promote in any way tho well
being of tt.ose who are engaged in any de
partment of productive activity. A careful
ly prepared Fashion plate, and other picto
rial illustra 1011s, will accompany each num
ber.
This Magazine is not intended exclusive
ly for any class of readers. The Publishers
have at ilieir command the exliauslless re
sources of current Periodical Literature ill all
its departments. They have the aid of edij
tors in whom both they and the public con
fide. They have no doubt that, by an intell
igent use of these appliances, they can pres
ent a monthly compendiun of the periodical
productions of the day which 110 0110 would
willingly bo without; and they intend to
publish it at so low a rate, that its cost shall
not prevent its making its way -into tho
hands and family circle oi ovory intelligent
citizen of tho United States.
TERMS.—THREE DOLLARS a year, or TWEN
TY-FIVE CENTS'n number. The Work may. he
obtained of Booksellers and Periodical Agents,
and of the Publishers.

When in New Orleans, a friend informed ]
me of n Philadelphia gentleman, S Church- !

and despaired of by his doctor I mention- I
ed having a bottle or so of your cordial 1 I
I sent it to him, and in a few days I had the !
pleasure of seeing him well, 1 can give yon
many names and testimonials of the efficacy i
of your cordial if necessary. I have given
it to one ship master of this port, in parlicu- i
jar Capl Whipple, ship Monoiigohelu, and he ;
informed me he would not he without it I I
think it is the safest and best medicine that I
have ever known to be used in affections of j
the stomach and bowels.

Dear Sir—l am now prepared to lecom- j

success in several instances, and I am ltow '
trying your Sa-sapari!!a Panacea in a case of j
protracted debility, attended with cough, ap- j

We are as little disposed as most persons
to encourage appeals to law or medicine, but
with all tho legerdemain of the first, and the
ignorance and uuakery of the last, appeals
must occasionally be made to both. Tho
excessive heat and the acoompaning pro
ductions of tho season aro already producing
Diarrhoia, Dysentery and < holcra Infantum,
complaints which if not promptly relieved
produce great debility and frequent death.
From a knowledge of its bencfioial effects,
we refer to Dr. Keoler's Cordial andCrrmin

is a physician of intelligence, skill, and large
practice, and if the remedies and commen
dations of medical authority aro to be de
pended on the adove named article will be
found useful in the complaints referred to.
IHF Also Dr. Keeicr's Sarsaparilla, a med
icine of great efficacy in freeing the system
from all diseases arising from impurities of
the blood. In chronic diseases of the chest,
stomach, liver and skin it is of great benefit.
Females suifering with nervous debility loss
of appetite, costivencss, pains of the chest,
functional obstructions will find a positive
euro in the Sarsaparilla. Of See pamphlets.
