For the Beiuoval nnd Permanent Cure of all
NERVOUS DISEASES,
And of those Com|>l tints which are enured by en im

NERVOUS SYSTEM.
This beautiful and oonvenient application of the mys
terious powers of GALVANISM and MAGNETISM, has
been pronounced by ilistingujithed physicians, both in
Europe and the United States, to be the wi oil vuluubls
medicinal discovery of lite Age.
Dr. CHRISTIE'S GALVANIC BELT
and
MAGNETIC FLUID,
is used with the most perfect and certain success in all
eases of
GENERA 1* DEBILITY,
Strengthening the weakened body, giving tone to the
varioui organs, and invigorating the entire system. Also
in FITS, CHAMP, PARALYSIS and PALSY, DYSPEP

A Derangement of the Nervous System.

gies of the t—"iadv prostrated system : while, under the
strength**!!!.;, iifi-giting, vitalizing influence of Onl
vanisra. as ipplied by this beautiful and wonderful dit
covery, the exhausted patient and weakened sufferer is
sectored to former health, strength, elasticity and vigor.
The great peculiarity and excellence of
Dr. Chrlatle's Galvanic Curative*,
eonsists in the fact that they arrest and cure disease by
outward application, in place of the usual mode of drug
ging, and iihysicking the patient, till exhausted Nature
sinks hopelessly under the infliction.
They strengthen the whole system, equalize the circu
lation of the blood, promote the. secretions, and never do
the slightest injury under any circumstances. Since their
introduction in the United States, only three years since,
more than
6 0,000 Persons
Including all ages, classes and conditions, among wmch
were a large number of ladies, who are peculiarly subject
to Nervous Complaints, have been
ENTIHEJLY AND PERMANENTLY CURED,
when all hope of relief had been given up, and every
flung else been tried in vain . <
To illustrate the use of the GALVANIC BELT,
aiippose the case of a poison ufllicted w.th that banc of
civilization, DYSPEPSIA, or any other i hronic or Nerv
ous Disoldcr. In ordinary cases, stimulants die taken,
which, by their actiou on the nerves and muscles of the
atomach, a third temporary relief, but which leave the
patient in a lower state, and with injured faculties, after
the action thus excited has ceased. Now compare this
Mill the ofl'cct resulting from the application ol the GAL
VAN If; BELT. Take a Dyspeptic sufl'erer, even in the
worst symptoms of an attuck, and simply tie the Belt
around tho Body, using the Magnetic Fluid as directed.
In a short period the insensible perspiration will act on
the positive element of the Belt, thereby causing a Gal
vanic circulation which will pass on to the negative, and
th"nce back -. gob. to the positive, thus keeping up a con
t:.iuou* Galvit.lie circulation throughout the system.

Dm. A. 11. CfißisTii:—Dear Sir : You wish to know of
me what has been tbe result in iny own case, of the
application of THE GALVANIC BELT AND NECK
LACE. My reply is as follow s :
For about twenty years I had been suffering from
Dyspepsia. Every year the symptoms became worse,
nor could I uhtaiu permanent relief from any course
of incdicol tuatmciit whatever. About fourteen years
since, in consequence of frequent exposure to the
weather, in thr discharge of my pastoral duties, I
became subject to a Revere Chronic Rheumatism, which
for vcar after year, caused me indescribable anguish.
Farther: in the winter of '43 and '46, in consfe
quencu ef preaching a great deal in my own and
voiions other churches in this region, I was attacked
by the Bronchitis, which soon became to severe as
to require an immediato suspension of my pastoral
labors. My nervous system was now thoroughly pros
trated, and as my Bronchitis became worse, so also did
my Dyspepsia and Rheumatic affection—thus evincing
that these disorders weie connected with each other
through the medium of tho Nervous System. In the
whole pharmacopa-ia theft Feemod to bo no remedial
agent which could reach and recuperate my Nervous
System ; every thing that I had tried for this purpose hod
completely failed. At last I was led by my friends to ex
iiniue your inventions, and (though with no very san
guino hopes of their efficiency,) 1 determined to try the
effect of the application oi the GALVANIC BELT AND
NECKLACE, with tho MAGNETIC FLUID. This was

That said Townaend stated be was an old man, and
poor, and was not (it for hard labor—and wished to
make some money, in order to live easy in his old
days, and that, if Saraaiwmlla under the name of Town

it, he could see no reason why he might not make
aomething out of it too, (liia name being Townaend,)
if lie could j'et a capable person to prepare a recipe,
and manufacture it for him. Deponent in one of the
conversations asked said Townaend if he was related
to Dr. 8. P. Townaend, to which he replied, that he
knew Dr. S. P. Townaend would be dowu on him after
he should commence. Cut that he did not care for
him, as he had formed a co-partnership with men who
could furnish the reouisite amount of capital—and was
well prepared to defend himself against any attack

Depoocnt that pnrsuant to the request
of said Jacob Townaend, he wrote a recipe for the
manufacture of a Syrup of Sarsapahiia, and gave it to

PROOF!! PROOF!!!
Here is proof conclusive that Dr. 9. P. Townsend'#
Sarsaparilla is the origiual. The following is from
some of the most respectabla papers in this State.
FROM THE
Albsiny Evening Journal.
Dr. Townaend'a Saraaparilla.
There probably never has been so popular a remedy,
or paten* medicine, as Dr. Townsend#*s Sarsaparilla,
which was originally, and continues to be manufac*
tured in this city, at "first by the Doctor himself, and
afterwards for several years and to the present time,
by Clapp k Townsend, tho present proprietors. Since
the partnership was formed, the Doctor has resided in
New York, where he keeps a store, and attends to the
business that accumulates ut that point. The manu
factory is in this city, and is conducted by the junior
partner, Mr. Clapp—here all the medicine is manofce
tured
Few of our citizens have any idea of the amount of
this medicine that is manufactured and sold. Besides
the sales in this country, it is shipped to the Canada#,
West India Islands, South America, and even to F.u
rope, in considerable quantities. At the manufactory
they employ a steam engine, besides a large number
of men, women and gills, in the preparation of the
medicine, making boxes, printing, kc , and turn out,
ready for shipment, over 400 dozen per day, or nearly
5000 bottles. This is ao enormous quantity.
The grca#bale the medicine has acquired, has in
duced a number of men to get up imitations, and there
is at the present time, other medicines for sale, thut
are called '• Dr. Tnwnsend'a Sarsaparilla." One in par
ticular started a short time ago in New York, is ealled
" Old Doctor Jacob Townsend's Sarsaparilla," and ap
parently with a view, by dint of advertising, and tha ]
usual remedies resorted to in sucb efforts, to appropri
ate the name ol Dr. S. T. Townsend'# great remedy,
and thus gain all the advantages resulting from tha I
popularity of the name which he has acquired for it. J
by years of patient and expensive labors. Dr. H P. (
Townsend, formerly of fhts city, as ia well known
here, is the inventor and original proprietor of the |
medicine known as " Dr. Townsend'# Saraaparilla,* |
and we think those persons who are attempting to sail
their article as the genuine, should be exposed
FROM THE
New York Daily Tribune. ,
c&- Wo published an advertisement inadvertently {
some time since that did injustice to Dr. 9. P. Town !
■end, who is the original proprietor of the preparation
of SaiNaparilla known aa Dr. Townsend'#. Other
parties have within the past few months engaged or
connected themselves with a man by the name of J
Townsend who put up a medicine and calls it by tha !
same name. This medicine was advertised in The
TYrtune as the original, ke. This advertisement also
contained matter derogatory to the character of Dr.
8. P. Townsend and that of uis medicine. We regret
it appeared, and in justice to the Dr. make this ax
planation.
FROM THE
New York Rally Bun.
Da. TOWNSEND'S extraordinary advertisement,which
occupies an entire page'6f the Sua, will not escape
notice. Dr. 8. P. Townsend, who is the original pro
prietor of Dr. Townsend'# Sarsaparilla, and whose of
fice s next dfx>r to ours, whoro he has b< en for sever
al yr-vs, is driving an immense business. He receives
no less than four hundred dozen of Sarsaparilla j>er
day, and even this enormous quantity does not supply
the demand. No medicine ever gained so great a
popularity as his preparation of the Sarsaparilla. His
edition of Almanacs lor 1849 cost $22,000, and he
has paid the New York BUN for advertising, in the
last four years, over SIO,OOO, and he acknowledges
that it is the cheapest advertising he has had done.
This medicine is exported to the Canada#, West in
dies, South America and Europe, in considerable
quantities, and is coming into general use in thoso
countries, as wall as here.
Swindler*.
Druggists and others tliut sell Sarsaparilla for the
K muine and original Dr. Townsend's Sarsaparilla,
at is not signed try 8. P. Townsend, commits a fraud,
and swindles the customers. Men that would he
guilty of such an act, would commit any other fraud
—and no Druggist of common intelligence but knows
that oura is the only gonuine.
Old |faeob Townaend.
Some people who are not well informed, and have
not read the papers, and not seen our advertisements,
have been led | •aqopose that because these men ad
vertise their atufr as " Old Jacob Townsend#," that it
. must, of course, be the original. It is less than one
year since they commenced to make their medicine.
Oura has been in the market over ten years
This Old Jacob Townaend.
They are endeavoring to palin off' on the public aa
an old Physician, ke. lie is not a regular educated
Physician, and never attempted to manufacture a med
icine, until these men hired him for the use of his
name. They say they do not wish tho people to be
lieve that their Sarsaparilla is ours, or the same—but
the better to deceive tho public, they at the same time
assert that tlielr'a is the Old Dr Townsend's, and the
original j and endeavor to make the people believe
that the stuff they manufacture, ia the Dr. Townsend's
Sarsaparilla, that haa performed so many wonderful
cures for the past ten years, and which has gained a
reputatiou which no other medicine ever enjoyed—
which is a base, villainous, unprincipled falsehood.
We have commenced Kilts against these men for
damages. We wish it tollunderstood, that the old man
is no relation to Dr. Townsend whatever. In their ad
vertisements and cireulars, they publish a number of
gross falsehoods respecting Dr. Towusend, which we
will not notice.
Fahse Report*.
Our opponents have published in the papers, that
Dr. 8. P. Townsend was dead. This they send to thsir
agents about the country, who report that we have
Riven up business, kc. lie. The public should be on
leir guurd, and not be deceived by these unprinci
pled men.

Christopher William HooJland.
"One of the most renowned physicians
one of the greatest benefactors of modern
times, was born al Langen Salza, Germany,
on the 12th day of august 1762. After "a
careful scholastic education, he, like his fath
er and grandfather, (two celebrated Doctors.)
voluntarily devoted himself to the study of
Medicine, at Jena and Gottigen, and in 1783
obtained the degree of Doctor of Medicine,
at the latter University. From 1793 to 1801,
ho officiated as Professor at the University of
Jena. In 1801," he was appointed Private
Physician to the<King of Prussia, Member
of the Academy of Science, and upon the
establishment of the near College at Berlin,
Professor and Court Physician by tho Minis
try of the Interior. His characteristic pro
foundness and deep penetration enabled him
to combine the theoretical and practical; to
udite old and new systews; produce in com
mori the practical and useful, and thus draw
therefrom the results and necessary applica
ble means.
"It was Dr. H. principally, who exposed
and destroyed the 'Brown's System,' which,
notwithstanding the brilliant exterior, could |
not conceal its many imperfections, brought
to light by Ilootlaiid's noble impartiality,
sound truths, and deep penetration. lude- I
pendent of his practical usefulness as Phy- j
sician and Professor of the healing art, he |
has earned uddying fame for his superior
knowledge in Materia. Medica, as well as for I
his manifold works on Medical jurispru
dence. Among these may be mentioned his
world renowned ' Makrobeolik, or the art of
prolonging life,' 'System of practical healing
art," 'ldeas ol Pathogenic,' Journal of prac
itical Medicine,' &c. He has besides all this
gained eternal fame and praiso from suffer
ing humanity for the discovery and combi
nation of several ir:allible mcdicinals, a
mong which is the far ramed and justly cel
ebrated compound, known as
DR. HOOFLAND'S GERMAN BITTERS.
The application of asciduous earth for the
cure of Sulphuric diseases—The celebrated
Diaphoretic remedy—and numerous inval
uable recorded recipes.
After the celebration of his fiftieth profes
sional festivity in 1833, upon which occa
sion the King of Prussia, honored him with
the insignia of the Order of the Red Eagle,
and many other Royal Orders and marks of
distinction, he died on the 25th day of Au
gust 1836, (as tho King of Prussia's private
Medical Counsellor,) without any legitimate
male heir or offspring.
"Dr. C. M. Jackson, of Philadelphia, has
had the means of obtaining the genuine re
cipes of the great medical councellor 'Chris
loph Wilbelm Hufelaud,' and these invalu
able medicines are prepared with the u linos'
care at the German Medicino Store. Tho
hitter mixture: Hoofland's German Bitters,
is the result of many years study and expe
rience by the great inventor, and known and
prized in Europe as an infallible remedy for
the cure of Liver ComplaLU Jaudice, Dyspep
sia bfe. Dr. C. M. Jackson's preparation of
this medicine has obtained the same celebri
ty in this Western World. The testimonials
and innumerable confirmations of thousands
of the most severe and difficult casus cured,
is ample proof of this. Tfio medicines com
pounded by Dr. C'. M. Jackson have produced
the very effects and the same happy results,
which the immortal inventor indicated, and
intended, and consequently must bo ; prepar
ed with scrupulous accuracy. In view of
the above facts it seems singular, that any
body could have the hardihood and impu
dence to abuse the name of this distinguish
ed Doctor, who died thirteen years ago. To
pass off a charlatan quack preparation as tho
real and genuine medicine, and to give a
semblance of originality by affixing a fac
simile of tho deceased, is indeed extraordi
nary ! The public will understand what to
expect, and what to do under such circum
stances."
A number of German papers copi.jJ the
aboye and are therefore entitled to our
thanks.

most perfect preparations in use, and, as a
