Fanner's Department. Toullry and Poultry House. Much has loun mid ami written upon this j Bubjcol, ami but very little practial infor mation Ins over been given . to tbo reading publir. I propose to givo my experience in raising pnuUry,aml my plan for a pout try home a plan vrhrch will bo tho most1 fitlod for the easy nianngeincnt of fowls, as ' woll as being tho loast expensive For a hen-house, it may bo built on one sitlo of the barn, or if you havo no building suit- j ablo, get four posts, how two sides; lot them be, (or tho high side, say nine feet ; for tho low side, say six or seven foot, which will ho enough pitch of roof, provi ded tho houqo is not mora than nino feet wide. Twlve feet by nino will bo large enough for twenty hone ; plant your posts firmly in iho earth, so as to keep your house firm and steady ; got 6econd quali ty pino or hemlock boards ; nail tLeru on lengthwise. If you do notohooso to got plates so an to have tho boards run up and down, a shinglo roof will bo the bcst.tbro' a good board or slab rOof will do woll enough, the slabs to covor tho cracks bo tween tho boards. Tho house must havo a window, with lath nailed acioJJ to let in air and lunshino. The roosts or por ches should bo placed in tho highest sido, so as to leave apaco enough for tho conve nient placing of the nests, which ought to bo in tho war most part ; fit a tight door on with good hinges and a good lock, and you will havo as nic'o a hen hduso as you oould wish for. Tho cost will not bo more than 8, with 2-oonts per foot: A good feed or water trough is made out of a chestnut loir, somtthincof tho shapo of a hogtrough. The beet breed of fowls, in my estimation, is the Potland, or top-knot; they are excellent layers, and aro oi profit till five or six years old. 'I'fpro are no better hens than the Potland to raise with. As a good, hardy breed ,tho Enlish pheas ants havo no equals; thoy aro good lay ers, and aro excellent for tho tablo. De scription: They aro of middle size, with blus legs and double combs; tho malei are in a color red, intermixed with black. A good feed for fowels is a mixture ol oorn, what screenings, oats or any grain you can get, mixed together ; fresh meat is very good, but I would not feed on it altogether. To havo hens lay through tho winter, they must not bo affected by sudden ohanges of tho weathor. Hons that lay steadily through tho summer, do not lay in winter. Puro water is iudis pcnsablc'in poultry breeding. Useful Receipts; To SwEET-P'ioKLEDl'EACiiEa.
