OiiEnnv TntEs. Plant oarlj if the I

Cuttings from ourrcnls and shrubs

as early as a plaoo can bo prepared.
Girdled Tree. These may often be
saved by tho uso of a plaster of corr-dung
and olay or loam bound on with a cloth.
Put on a plenty to rotain moisturo.
biuPTlNa. Hoot- grafting should bo ;
got out ol the way as 6000 as possible,
ana preparations mado for grafting trees in
tho ground. Cut scions.
Insects. If any of. the twigs appear as
if thoy had a swollen place upon them, an '
examination will probably show that the
apparent swelling is a duster of tho eggs-
of the teut caterpillar. This insert gluee
its eggs to the twigi, ia a broad ring. If'
theso are found, removo at any cost of time
and trouble.
Mandrb. Surface manuring is now
practised by our best orchardUts. The
manure may bo carted out and applied !
while tho ground is frozen. I
OnciiAnD?. Wash the trees, if iho '
weather is suitablo, as reuommendod last!
mouth. If pruning muit bo done beforo!
summer do it now. The weight of author
ity is decidedly in favor of summer prun
ing. Planting.- The trees should have
been oidered by this time, but if postponed
until now do it-at onoe. In ordering ap
ple trees it is well to reoollect tho valuo of
sweet varieties as food for stook. Drain
ing will always pay in the orchard and
tho drains should be made before plant
ing Tho land may bo staked out and
tho holes made at any timo when the sea
son is mild enough.
Seeds. Order treo cecds for planting
this spring. Thosa kept over winter in
boxes of earth should, not be sown until
the soil is warm.
Stocks. Thoso budded' last' year may
be cut back to within three inohes of the.'
bud, whero the bud remains bright- and
appearj'to have united or ''taken."
Transplanting of all hardy shrub; and'
trees may be dono- as soon as the soil is in
working order.
Plantirjg;mny be commencad as soon as
the frost is well out. Tho soil of tho fruif
garden should be drained, enriched aud
deeply ploughed onapaded.
Blackberries. Set the improved
kinds sissfeet apart each way , cutting baok
tho canes to six inches.
Currants. Prune, and make cuttiogs
of last year's wood. Transplant already
rooted plants.
Dwarf- Trees. Tho remaiks upon
cutting baok at the timo of planting ap
ply with even more force to dwarfs. Now
is a good time to-commence to form dwarf
pyramids.
GoosEUKRRiESf Treat as currants.
The Houghton and Amcrioan seedliDg are
the only reliable sorts.
Grapes. If tho vinos were left uo
pruned last autumn attend to them early.
Those which at tho I all pruning had extra
buds- loft on the canes may be now cut back
to the bud intended to-grow. Plant nen
?incs. There is scarcely a yard or garden
that has not room for- from one to a dozen
vinos which will till up spaces not occupi
ed. .Recolleot that a vino may be growL
to a single stake,or may be mado to spread
over a large space,
Raspberries. Do not uncover too soon,
Plant-new vinc8,espcoially tho Black Caps,
whioli are proline and hardy, and good for
homo use or market-.
