HINTS ABOUT DIET.
On account of tho great lack of farm
help the present season, it becomes us all
to husband our Btrcngth and health in the
most cautious manner.
And as a class, we fear wo aro not pay
ing that attention to our' meals, as to reg
ularity and kind, which might be. Our
own course (though we would not bo vain
enough to suppose that it would bo practi
cable in every case) is, to have the first
meal as curly as sis or half-past,dinnor at
11 and tea at 5 p. m., when at labor noar
the houso ; and after tea give from onn to
two hours of work, Wo consider this
prcforablo to having tho last meal nt an
hour or two later, and then,, soon after, i
goiog to' bed, as it U a wrong idea ever to
retire soon alter a full moal. Spend from
35 to 50 minutes at each meal, ifpoBjiblo,
and you will then feel invigorated for fur
Ihcr labor.
In the warm season, spare yourself as
much as possiblo in the heat of tho day,
nnd work early uud lato to make up the
deficiency.
Indeed, in cxtremoly warm weather, we
often perform as much aftor an early tea
as is done between dinner and tea.
Let tho last meal also bo made of light
food not the old fashioned "cold pork
and potatoes" but good, light, well baked
breat and fruits in their season, namel y
commencing with the pic plant, 1st May,
nnd to be followed by straw borriesj &c,
in regular rotation. Indeed, a, farmer
should not be without fresh, healthy fruits,
through the season dating from the 1st of
May. This is not only "a privileee, but
a duty."
A word, as regards the quality of bread.
And, though I would not bo ouo to encour
oge any home-made rebellion but would
be hero a peace man yet I would exhort
you to persist that your bread bo as be
fore stated, both light and well done
rather over, than under done. No matter
how wealthy you may bo ; let simple bread
'and butter, both of tho first quality such
quality as diould be found in every far-
mcr'B house, constitute, (with tho- fruits

you iiappen to uo tempted tlierewith, and
cm. insisting that tho breal should be

These hints as to diet aro 'suggested
because wo arc, ,a3 a body, I think, not
paying properjattention to theiu, and pos
sibly our children will somo day havo
cauao to thank us for their good constitu
tions if wo but give proper hoed thereto.
