for a cure fur wons or ee:fu&ts on enttie's
jaws, I would say that in 1855 I bad a
very nice Devonshire heifer that had one
of those tumors on her jaw as I-arjjc as a
pint baiiu. I did not kuow what to do for
t. I inquired of a physiuinn ho told
me that there was uo euro that I better
feed btr and turn her out tot Ucir. Ouuu
after 1 saw a slatomout iu some agricul
tural paper that common tar and salt
would cure them,
and stirred iu fine
So I took a dish of tnr
all until it looked like
black tub sugar.
I kept the dish under
a shed wheru I milked my cows.and ap
plied it with a slick to the jaws, night and
mornin!?. for about three weeks, when a
of
cure was effected,.
In 1658 I eured one timilar to the
above with salt and vinegar, made as
strong as it could be kept iu a bottle aud
applied twice a day until a cure was effect

STARTING EARLY POTATOES.
A crop of potatoes ready for tho table
early in June, may bo scoured without
greattroublo. If seed potatoes arc brought
into a warm room about tbo firj-t of March,

two or threo weeks, by whioh timo they

tho tubers may bo planted in a hot hed of
moderate temperature, about the middle of
tho month. Cut them iu halves, lay them

placed, and cover with about two inches of
earth. T hoy may bo transplanted when
two or threo inches high. They bhould
be removed carefully, soperatin tha root3
with as little injure its posible. They will
not bo likely a full crop under this treat
ment, and may therefore bo planted more
closely, aay iu drills thirty inches apart,
and twclvo inches apart in tho drills.
Another met cod is to put pieces of pota
too in small squares of turf, set them oloso
together in a warm place whera thoy can
bo watcicd readily. On cold nights pro
tcot them with straw. When largo enough
tbey can beuetout turf and all, without
disturbing tho roots. This might not pay
