CABBAGE FOR COWS.
Thero can bo no doubt that cabbago is
an excellent food for cows. It is more
nutritious than tho white turnip, and wi 1
produce more per aero. Wo think it should
be more extensively cultivated, especially
by our dairymen. Tho investigation of

sccni, therefore, tnat a supply of cabbage,
which could easily bo obtained, would
prove of great advantage.
KHUBAKB WINE.
A fair article of wino for family use may
bo made from tho rhubarb in tho following
manner: Grind or mash, and press the
stalks, in any convenient manner. A por
table or hand cider mill and pross answer
well for this purpose. Add as much water
as there is juice, anl three to four pouuds
of light colored sugar to each gallon of the
gallon of the mixture. Put in casks and
set in tho cellar, with tho bung out, leav
ing it until fermentation ceases, keeping
the casks full in the meantime. When
done working, bung up tight or bottle for
use. Small quantities may be put at first
into glass bottles or stone jugs.

DUTCH CHEESE.
The "fanner's girl" who can make "tip
top Dutch cheese," and tell how it is done,
is no doubt an adopt in tho art. I know
a fanner's wife who has made "lots'' of it
and think none can make bettor. She
pours boiling water over thick milk in the
pans. The curd should bo moved gently
with a
spoon
that tho water
may react,
the bottom of tho pan. Tho curd and
whey will seperate In a few minutes ; pour
off the whey and if tho curd is too tender
pour over it hot water tho second time
and move tho curd about as at first ; then
pour off tho water and put the curd in thin
coarse cloth, and hang it up drain an hour
or two ; then add salt, a little butter or
cream, or both t work it in and make into
balls. This way is preferred to heating
the milk over the firo, or upon tho stove
and is much loss work and trouble. Try
it, and sec if you do not liko it better.
Bits. Lyman.
HORSES-HEAVES
Wo would remind our readers that hor
ses fed on carrots, never suffer from heaves ;
they will bo found to havo a silky coat as
well as a loose hide, and enjoy far better
health than when hay and oats aro alouo
used. Three quarts of carrots and threo
quarts of oats will sustain a horso much
better than six quarts of oats. When the
carrots form part of tho feed, all the oats
will bo digested and nsimilated ; whereas,
when oats alone aro fed, more than one
half pass through undigested. The floor
of every cutting box should bo ribbed or
opened so as to permit all dust to pass
down boforo tho hay reaches tho cutting
knives. Many horses are rendered asth
matio by being fed dusty hay, and, conse
quently, every moans calculated to remove
tho dust bhould bo restored to.
