"What Branch op AanicuLTunE

Gardener says this is tho great question
of tho day at tho West, and the general
.answer is, to "raiso les3 wheat and more
stock, horses, sheep, sorghum, flax, cct."
It is thought that sheep and wool growing
afford good promise of proGta.
When to Plant Coiin. Juilgo Buell
used to teach that tho proper time to plant
com is when the npplo is bursting its blos
som, buds. A writer in tho Country
Gentleman says ho and others always go
by that rulo, and always havo good, full
crops of grain and stalks. The reason is
that then tho ground is warm enough to
cause speedy germination and growth.
Pruning a Climiii.no Rose. In pru
ning a climbing rose, ali tho very strong
nnd vigorous shoots of a year should bo re
served, and all weak and decayed ones, as
well as old shoots exhausted by abundant
flowering, should bo cut away. It should
also bo an object to get good strong shoots
as low down towards tho roots as possible,
as the finest flowers, coming fromtho stron
gest shoots, aro thereby equally diffused
.over the whole plant.
Packing Eaas roil Lono Journeys.
The best substance for packing eggs that
havo to bo sent lou distances, by rail or
otherwise, especially if intended forgetting,
is the husks of buckwheat, liran and grain
are full of dust, and should not bo used
unless each egg is rapped in paper. These
substances aro also apt to pack, and the
package becomes one solid mass. There
is no elasticity, and the constant jars break
the delicate membrane which suspends tho
yolk in tho shell, and tho egg is "killed.''
lEXCE Posts. The ' Ohio Farmcr'says :
(5Iany years ago we wero building a new
fence, and when setting our posts, wo satu
rated that part which wo placed in the
ground, and about ouo foot above, with coal
tar, rosin, and lime. The proportions
were about eight parts of tar and one of
lime ; and sixteen of tar to one of rosin.
Wo melted tho rosin beforo mixing, but
tho lime wo put in as wo brought it from
the kiln. Those post3 are now nearly all
of them sound and good, although the timber
was asorry mixture of ba3svood,bcach,oak,
chestnut and maple."
A Pleasant Fertilizer tor Garden
Plants, Many persons, particular ladies,
dislike to uso the ordinary fertilizers from
the barn or poultry yard, on flowers and
other houso plants. "One who knows"
fiends tho following for tho Agriculturist,
which is good ndt only to stimulate house
plants, but for out-door plants of almost
every kind. Dissolve half to three quar
ters of an ouuco of sulphate of ammonia
(obtained cheaply at tho druggist,) in one
gallon of water. Apply it ouly once a
week, and then ouly to growing plants.
It may bo used with great bcucfit on beds
of strawbcriics, on peas on dwarf pears,
grapo vines, dahlias, and for all kinds of
pot-plants. This mixturo increases the
eizo of tho foliage of plants, and gives a
dark, shining green colour. Tho flowers
nlso are improved in proportion. And,
not least important, this fertilizer will do
no harm.

Tho Llfo Pills nnd Plioenix Hitlers have always been
signally sutccsbful in this class of diseases, and Hill
eradicate all tho cll'ects of mercury from thu system,
sooner than tlio most powerful preparations of sarsu
parllla. They aid nature in casting from the system nil
poisonous matter, and by thus purifying tho vital fluids,
they restore the sytcni to health.
llillous Complaints. A well regulated and propor
tionate quantity of bile upon tho stomach is always re
quisite for the promotion of sound health it stimulates
digestion, and keeps the intestinal r 11 mil tree from nil
obstructions. On the Interior surface of tho liver Is a
peculiar bladder in which the bilo Is llrst preserved,
being formed by the liver from the blood. Thenco it
passes Into tho stomach und intestines, and regulates
the digestion. Thus we see when there is n deficiency
of bile, the body U constantly costive. On the other
hand, an over abnndance of bile causes frequent nausea
on the stomach, and often promotes very severe attacks
of diseases, which Bomctlmcs end in death,

Liven Co.MriMsT. All nlfeclion of tho Liver may bo
known by a fueling of tension or pain iu the right side
about the region of tho liver, often pnugeut as iu pleu

breath; dry cougll and inclination to vomit. Tbisdi
scusu may bo produced by cold, by violent exercise, by
intense summer heats, by long continued bilious fever
or ague, and by various solid concretions in thu sub'
stance of the liver. Ami to these producing causes, are 1
deraugcm.'iit of the digestlvo organs, suppressed secre
tions, and mental solicitude, which nro very frequent
causes of obstructions and diseases of the Iher.
This disease should be arreted In the commencement
which can be done by n few doses cf the Life Pills.
When once tho liver is moused to tho performance of
its proper functions, little more is requisite than tocou
tinue a proper use of the medicines, and u speedy re
