Skttiiso out Trees. Tlio tirao for
planting u in the full, whentbe leaves fall
from tlio forest say from tho 20th of
October to tho 20th of November. Troc
procured iu tho full may bo kept 'safely
for planting iu the fcpriug, by burying
them half their length in bandy earth, in a
sloping position, hero no vratcr is liable
to stand ; atid for peach or cherry trees, a
blight covering of brush, or forest leaves,
over tho tops ill be of service, in caso
the winter bhould prove severe. Small
bushes like currants goose-berries, rasp
berries, grape.-i, -io., may bo buried en
tirely in earth, if taken up in tho f;ill, and
not planted before spring. Trees planted
in the fall should havo the earth hilled up
around tho stems sis inches or more iu
height, and pressed firmly with tho foot
to hold tho trees in position during tho
winter, and protect tho roots somewhat
from frost and esces.3 of wet. It is also
protection against injury by mice.
Suoar IIiit ron Calvhs "Tho best
calves I ever raised," said a farmer the
other day to tho agricultural editor of the
N. Y. Tribune, " I raised in this way :
Just as soon as they would cat, and that
was very catly, for the youug ones learn
ed of tho oldur ones, I gave them just as
many sugar beets as they would cat. I
cut them up iu thin slrces, with a verac
ions appctito, and grew fat and sleek as
moles. 1 have uo doubt other beets would
be nearly a's gopd, and so would carrots,
parsnips, nd even turnips, for early
spring feeding, before grass comes."
This fact is mentioned now, that farmers
may save some ol their roots, if they have
them, to feed the calves within tho spring.
Kif.pino Winter Squashes. There
is just this timplo rule for keeping winter
fquashes : Put them in a warm, dry
placo, and thoy will not rot. It is a warm,
damp atmosphere, liko that in moat col
lurs, that causes decay. A dry stove
room, or furnace-heated room, which nev
er gets cold, or a closet near tho fire-place,
which never gets cool enough to freeze,
aro good places iu which to winter the
rquashes anil pumpkins. Thoy also keep
well hung up in baskets or bags overhead
in tho kitchen, or on a hanging shelf.
They should always bo stored singly
never in piles when you vusb to preserve
them a long time, Wo copy this from
tho N. Y. Iribunc, aud it is no doubt
correct. Wo havo found that our cellar,
tho temperature of which is kept up by a
beater to from 45 to CO throughout tho
winter, is equally welladapted. Wo havo
kept pumpkins, (which la mcnux jj tio
work squash used above,) for ouo year.

How to Leaun .to Farm Well. I
am a disbelievor in anythiug liko instino
tive knowledge. If you wish to learn how
a thing should bo done, do it ; if you tush
to know tho result, observe it. If you
wcro to ask mo how I bhould teach a
youug man to farm, tho only answer I
could givo you would bo, I would givo
him great opportunities of learning.
Now I would venturo to say, especially
to my young hearers, if you wish to bu a
successful agriculturist, learn your busi
ness thoroughly, and set about it in the
right way. If you wish to bo a good and
prosperous farmer, pay attention to li:tlo
things, and however high a position you
may hereafter attain, or however eminent
you may becomo as an agriculturist, you
will never repent of tho tirao aud attention
you havo bestowed upon tho rudiments of
your calling; and allow mo, as an old
man, who has had many opportunities of
observing his own, as well as his neigh
bors' shortcomings, to tell you tkat I con
sider constitutes a good man of business
attention to details. If auy of the young
gentlemen wl.o aro doing me the honor to
listen to my remarks were to ask mo for a
motto for their guide to business, I would
givo them theso thrco words, "attention to
details." Great things will generally bo
looked after, but tho wholo aro overlooked
or forgotten. Con espomlent of the Inl

Dyspepsia, ft discaso w.hich is probably moro

be attributed to derangements of tho digestive
