Irom the soil, no moro attention. A good
animal is generally easier and cheaper
kept than a poor one. A good aero of
ground is by far tho most profitable. Good
huy, good wheat, good breeds (if stock, aro
moro easily raised, and moro profitable than
bad. An the whole, wo ropcat tint it is
altogether best (hat every young farmer
iluuld start right ; hence, wo propoao to
try a littlo hero upon Ike selection oj his
farm.
' 1st. Make it a pniut, if possible, to
locato your farm in somo favorablo place,
as rojards msrkcts, roads, respectable
society, schools, and oppoitunitiea to l.ccp
up with tho improvements of tho nge. It
is hard to bo successful, out of iho roach of
tho world. It is haul to get aloni; well, and
cultivato well, both a farm aril a family,
far away from a mil), a store, a blacksmith
shop, a po3t-office, a school, a church, or
tho afcsociitious, privileges and excitomcnts
of good so'iicty. '1 ho prico of all articles
of farm product, depends much upon tho
nearness to market, and tho facilities for
transportation. Let those things bo duly
crnsidcrcd, in selecting a locality for a
farm.
T2d. Seek good land ; not laud adapted
especially to tha growth of a particular
article, unless that bo your especial object,
but a soil that will bo gcod for all farming
purposes. Poor land pays but-poorly for
labor upon it. It is actually easier to
cultivato an aero of good land well, than of
pcor, and the profit is often doublo or
trible. It is often that young farmers
think they must havo a largo farm, whether
it is good or net. This is a mistake If
your means are limited, buy less land. lie
Euro it is good, fly-and by, you can buy
more of tho samo sort. You generally see
good, intelligent farmers cn good land.
Sco to it that the soil is good, with water,
timber, rock, etc., inconvenient and nsablo
relation to it. Da careful that it is not too
flat. Good draining is important. It is
one of the greatest desiderata of cood
farming. Hence perfectly ' Hut laud is
objectionable. Neither should it be too
hilly, for then its lifa will be washed out
of it.
"3d. It is important that the farm should
Iiaveuponit agood building site high, and
dry, and healthy, in convenient rchtions to
tho whole farm and tho road ; a Eito well
adapted to all the purposo of a farmer's
home.
"'1th. It should havo, if possible, a
favcrablo spot for a garden and an orohard,
contiguous to tho building site. These aro
tbo main things to bo considered, in selec
ting land for a new farm. We deem it
important that tho young farmer should
givo good attention to tbcm, and unite
them all as far as possible, in his farm."
Why is Clovora Benefit to Land?
Because it derives a vast amount of
carbon from tho air, which the clover sup
plies to the soil A dry stalk of clover
consists almost cn irely of carbon. If a
crop of clover is turned under and decays,
a largo quantity of carbon is distributed
id Iho soil. Even if tho crop is not turned
under, a largo amount ii deposited in tho
land through the roots of tho plant.
Carbon fcrnis the basis of charcoal, and
by agiicu'.tural writers is frequently used
eynonimously with that word. It is an
esfcilcnt absorbent, and for thij reason h
yaluablo in soils for tho purpose of retain.
5uj manures and all fertilizing matters,
fjtt Kuropo and in many places in this
country whero tho roil U poor and manures
cortly, carbon (or charcoal) is frequently
reiltered over heaps of manure cr ether
substances emitting offensive odors, and tho
gasscs thus O'capiug will bo absorbent by
tho chare: al. It i3 also an excellent absor
bent of moisture, and is thereforo very
valuable ill stils. It also renders tho soil
warmer, and in fine, is cne of our most
valuable manures. It is not our purposo
here to speak of all its excellent qualities
but wo wish merely to ny tint in no way
can it be so easily and cheaply co ubiued
with tho soil as by raiding clover, f armors
who havo tried and seen its effeots upon
their soil, oonsidcr it one of the best ways
of keeping their l.ud in a fertile state, ly
raising it as an altcrnato crop.
Syrian Wheat. A gentleman from
Alabama received from tho Patent Office
eomo spring wheat, from tho Holy Land,
which lin showed lust spring, It camo t"
maturity in eleven weeks, producing a
large, full head, wi h a berry in every
respect equal to tho original. This wheat
is reputed to ripen iu Syria in sixty days
fiom sowing. It w 11 thus be seen that our
climate battened its fericd of maturity

AY EE'S PILLS
Ancw and sinRulariv successful remeJy for the
cure of all Bilious diseases Costheness, Jndi
Kestion, Jaundice, Dropsy, KhfumitiMii, Fcters,
Gout, IIumur), Nenousne'ss, Irritability, IuHumma
tions, Ilea-iache, Pains in tho Ureast, Side, Hack,
and Limbs, I?emalo CompIaint, &c. c. Irtdced,
very few are the disease? in nhich a Jurgative ledi
cine U not moro ur less required, and mucli sick
neas and .u(rerinp might be prevented, if a haim
less but effectual Cathartic wero more freely ued.
No person can feel well while a rostive habit of
body prevails besides, it soon generates serious and
often fatal diseases, which might haebcen avoided
by the timely and judicious tiso of a good purRath e.
This is alike true of Colds, FevcrNh symptoms, and
Bilious derangements. -They all Und to become or
produce the doe? seated nnd formidable distempers
which load the hearses all ocv the land. Hence a
reliable family physic Ls of the lirst importance to
the public health, and this Pill lias been perfected
with consummate skill to meet that demand. An
extensive trial of its virtues by riiyhieians, Profes
sors, and Patients, has shown results surpassing
any thing hitherto known of any medicine. Cures
hat e been effected beyond belief, iere they not sub
stantiated by peisoin of such exalted position and
character as to forbid the suspicion of untruth.
Among the many eminent gentlemen who have
testified in favor of these Pills, we may mention :
Prof. J. H. Locke, Analytical Chemist, of Cin
cinnati, whose high professional character is en
dorsed by
John McLean, Judge of the Supreme Court of
tho United States.
Thos. Cokw'in, Secretary of the Treasury.
Hon. J. M, WnrrjjiT, Governor of Indiana.
N. Loxoworth, reat wino grower of tho West.
Also, Dr. J, It. Cihltiw. Practical Chemist, of
New York City, endorsed '
Hon. V. L. Makcy, Secretary of State.
Wm, B. Asroa, the riehest mnn in America.
S. Leland & Co., Propr's of the Metropolitan
Hotel, and many others.
Did space permit, we emild give many hundred
certificates, from all parts where the Pills haie
been used, but e-videnrn even more couvlncins than
the experience of eminent public men is fouud in
their ctiects upon trial.
These Pills, the resxilt of lonj; imestfgation and
study, are offered to tho public as the best and
most complete which the present state of medical
science can afford. They aro compounded not of
the drugs themselves, but of tho medicinal virtues
only of Vegetable remedies, extracted by chemical
process In u state of purity, and combined together
in such a manner a-i to inrurc the best results. This
system of coinn.oMtiuii for medlcii.c3 has been found
in the Cherry Pcttor.il and Pills both, to produce a
moro eflicient remedy than had hitherto been ob
tained by any protcbs. The reason is perfectly ob-
ions. Vhilo by the old mode of composition, ctery
medicine is burdened with moro or less of acri
monious and injurious rmalitics, by thi each Indi
lidual irtuo only that js desired fur tho cur .1 the
effect Is present. All the inirt and obnoxious qual
ities of each substance employed are left behind, the
curatite virtues only being lctaincd. Hence it is
self-evident the ctiects should proe, as they have
proved, more purely remedial, and tho PHisa surer,
more powerful antidote to dUeiue than any other
medicine known to the world.
