Tho Democratic Ticket.
Three different parties in thU Stato have
now their respective tickets in the Cold.
Their platform havo been announced find
tbo campaign fairly commenced. The
prospect of tho Democracy was never
brighter. For several reasons wo feel safo
in predicting a brilliant victory. In tho
first place, the tick c .which has been placed
in nomination is ono of the very best that
oould have been selected. Gen. l'ackcr,
our candidate for Governor; is by educa
tion and cipflricnoc ih publio life most ad
mirably qualiCed to discharge the duties of
tho Executive of the Commonwealth. His
moral character is unblemished, while his
pleasing address and accomplished gifts of
oratory will recder him almost invincihlo
on the stump. The personal popularity of
General Packer is of itself a tower of
strength, and we defy his enemies to point
to any act, cither in his public or private
life, that can detract in tho slightest do
greo from bis claims to general confidence.
TVhatcver may bo the fate of tho iniquit
ous project or the giviog away of tho Main
Line, there will bo still a necessity for
honesty, energy and intelligence in tho
board of Canal Commissioners, Thcso
requisites wo are happy to sco aro well
blended in the character of Nimrod Strick
land cf Chester. Wo trust 1'h.at, In spite
of all the efforts to the contrary, tho Main
Line will still bo retained, and that under
.the management of such men as Scott-,
fiBMEd and Strickland, it will become
a source of such steadily increasing revon
uo, as to alloviato and finally remove the
burdens of an overtaxed people.
Of the candidates for the Supreme Benob
it 13 impossible to speak too highly. Hon:
5W.M. Srnosa, comes trom tho "old Gib
raltar" of Dainoeracy, and his nomination
was justly due to tho sound constitutional
Democracy of Berks. Sho will attest tho
appreciation of the honor .conferred upon
her by giving her "favorite son," and the
balacco of the ticket, a majority of.not.lcs3
ihan 7,000 in October.
Judge Thompson, is a strong man.in
