' AN HOUR WITH THE DEAD. A

RGomcd all sumhino nud gladness, but
thcro was a secret sorrow that shut out tho
beauty of tho earth, as wo felt conscious of
tho perceptible chwgo that had taken place
in bo short a time. Header, if you nro
ambitious go into somo comctry or grave
yard and road over tho names of those
.whoso prospocts were as promising as yours,
but whom tlio fell mcssonger of death had
blasted, and learn there a lesson, that you
may sot your house in order.
LOOK OUt FOR THAT COMET,
Soon, very 'soon, if any rolianco can bo
placed upon astronomers, this world of
ours will bo blotted out of existence, and
boforo another number of tho time-honored
Democrat may greet you, you may bo
strolling in tho "sweet fields of Eden."
"Well wo don't much believe in modern
prophets, as wo onco listened to them on a
certain occasion" when wo.chanocd to be in

woefully disappointed us, and who oan tell
but that thoy may bo wrong again, liut
should it bo happen wo wish ono and all
of tlio patrons of tho Democrat a safo pas

had better bo on the lookout for this unruly

There aro rumors afloat that his majesty
lias como andgono after approaching within
the comfortablo distaneo of twenty millions
of miles from the earth.
L'OUni OF JULY. Wo last week
briefly alluded to tho propriety of an action
taken for a proper celebration of the com
ing Fourth of July. Wo will again s:ty,
that wo hopo tho citizens of our place, will
not permit this occasion to pass, cs too
many himilar ones havo done unhonored.
Tho anniversary of our naliuu's birth-day
is less observed than it used to be, and bids
fair, if our people continue to grow so for
getful of their groat occabions, to bo al

notice. Wo fear this lack of patriotic
spirit shows U3 attachmenhin the bosoms
of Americans, than shoulof reign there.
Let us havo 11 eclobrat'on of tho nest '1th
