Br ilOLDROOK, JlEXLOCK & llniTTON,
THE Subscribers propose to publish o newspa
per in tho borough of Harrisburg, with the
title of tho State Capitol Gazette." The Gazette
will bo devoted to the support and advancement of
democratic principles, based upon the political and
philosophical truths of universal equality of right;
and tho sovereignty of tho people's will designated
by the voico of the majority that all civil govern
ment and law eminate from tho people, exist onty
by their assent or peimission, and that they havo an
unalienable right ito remodel, alter or abolish cither
at thoir pleasure, whenever they may deem it ne--cessary
for their welfare and lyippiness, and that cv
cry thing which tends to weaken or subvert those
principles, goes directly to sap the foundation of our
republican institutions, and should bo checked with
a prompt hand and vigorous energy.
'Measures and not men,' shall ever bo the rule by
"which the politieal course of tho Gazette tvill bo
Korcrncd, We shall never quarrel with our polit
ical brethren about theindividnal whom tho major
ity may fairly select, to carry out any measures con
sistent with our democratic principles. Is ho hon
est is ho capable, aud will he obey tho voico of his
constituents, shall be tho leading enquiries as to the
qualifications of a candidate for office. If capable,
honest and willing to acknowledge the supreme will
of the majority, every individual in society shall
"have an equal claim 6n us for onr countenance and
support. We abhor all faction and combination of
individual interest to accomplish individual purpo
oses. Every thing of that sort, shall receive Irom
us a most hearty and decided opposition. Honesty,
-economy and Btrict accountability in all public
'functionaries, and their disbursements of tho public
moneys, shall be freely examined and fully discuss
ed. Tho Gazette will sustain the administration o
th General Government, upon the principles pur
sued by its present patriotic and enlightened chi e
magistral Martin Van Burcn, and will cheerfully
lend its support to his re-election, to complete his
measure of two terms of office, in accordance with
tho uniform practice exercised towards his rcpubli
can predecessors. In discussing national policy,
we shall advocato at all times every measure tending
to strengthen tho bonds of the common Union, and
to promote tho peace, security and happiness of tho
whole, so far as it can be dono without compromi
sing any rights that may belong to an individual
state as a separate, and independent sovereignty.
The Gazette will also support the administration
of our worthy Executivo of Pennsylvania Gover
nor Porter, mil its editors will ever cherish the prin
ciples which triumphed in his election, ond which
through all the desperate and dangerous machina
tions put in requisition to defeat his inauguration,
by a reckless and abandoned party, established in
the executivo chair, as the land marks ofourrepubli
can safety and happiness. It shall also be the study
of the editors to promote the best interest of our vast
chain of internal improvements, and urging to a
speedy completion all tho links necessary to secure
its immense connection, and to turn it to lasting
and profitable use.
Our foreign relations shall bo attended to, and
the public seasonably advised of every transition
abroad, calculated to affect their political interests,
or awaken in private life a spirit of enquiry and re
search in the various fields of philosophy, mechan
ics or literature.
Tho Gazette will bo printed on a fine double me
dium sheet, and new type; and every attention be
stowed to render its mechanically execution perfect.
Tho fit st number of tho Gazette will appear on
or about the thirteenth of June. Persons, holding
tho proposals will bo punctual to return tho same by
'the thirteenth of May. Letters by mail, post paid
will receive prompt attention.

R. LEIDY'S MEDICATED EXTRACT
OF SARSAPARILLA. hnvi
deservedly popular, on account of its superior
strength to any other preparation of Sarsaparilla in
existence, it is thought unnecessary to make much
comment upon its virtues. Suffice it to say, one
Dome oi tho above contains twice as much of the
active principles of Sarsaparilla anl other ingredi
ents, as any extract in cxistecne, in the same quan
tity, and is equal to one cruthm nfSnrun nf ..

cnaso tho abovo preparation. Price one dollar ncr

It is recomended in all diseases of tho skin and
Bones; affections of tho Liver, Stomach, Spleen
and Kidneys; Eruptions, breaking out of Dry and

ations of the nose, mouth and throat; running at the
Ears and EycsjErysipilas, Scrofula.rheumalic pains,
swelling or hardening of tho Glands, constitutional
uiscascs prouueeu uy the uso of mercury or other
minerals. In short, Sarsaparilla is known to the
world, as being the most powerful agent ever dis
covered for purifying the blood and Animals Fluids,
couscqucntly the most valuable specific for all dis
eases, resulting from impurities of tho Blood, and
other fluids of the body.
Caution. Persons should be particularly careful
m getting a preparation that may bo relied upon;
there being many in existence, not properly prepar

medicinal qualities whatever.-

to bo what it is represented to be, and is prepared
by himself, a regular Druceist and Annthe
