Our very modest.Irufh loving neighbor of I
the liaSm-'-'" lavo ucen flung botloin up
wards.this week, by our question as lo their
knowlcdgo of tho " Bloomsburg Rait Road
Dill," introduced into tho Legislature by
Mr. Colt, atid in consequence, their vison
is so much more obscured than usual that
thoy havo exceeded their usual quandem of of
misrepresentation and abuse. Hcnco comes
their term liar so freely used in their last
paper, in regard to us, because wo obtain
more correct statements of tho result of the
Virginia election through our Democratic
channels, than they do from their never to
be relied ou Federal sources. Wo stated
last week, that it was believed their would
o a Democratic majority on joint ballot in
the legislature, and further advises strength
en that belief. The Globo claims a Demo
cratic majority of TVO, and the Richmond
Enquirer classes the members elected as
follows: 81 Democrats, 83 Whigs and
Conservatives, and 3 doubtful; but think
that the 3 doubtful will go with the Demo
crats; and adds " Every thing satisfies us,
that the people are up, and that the state is
safe. Tho Whig presses will put forth
their insidious and deceptivo statements, to
cheer their followers, and to deceive tho ig
norant but as true as there is a sun
in the firmament, the vessel will bo righted
in December next and next year the Old
Dominion will go for the little Magician."
Lnst vear the whicr majority was 24. At
the close of tho last session of Congress,
the dclegutiGn stood 1 1 Van Buren sub'
ticasury men, to 10 of the pie-bald opposl
tion now the Enquirer says, that 12 Do
inocrats, 1 sub-treasury Whig, and 8 Fed
cralists and Conservatives arc elected, and
that a majority of tho popular votes, both
for Congress and Assembly, aro Democrat
ic. What a glorious Whig victory this is;
a few such wonld row them up Salt river
and land them in the mud. And what liars
we must bo to have made the statement in
our last. Oh ! shame, where is thy blush
gc"7We publish to-day, the advertise
ment of Krownover, for the Letting of the
Canal Bridges, gratis, for tho good of the
public, not having been authorised by him
to do so. We suppose he considers it un
necessary that this section of the county

liavo as little Knowledge of, as they have
influence over, his official transactions.
We have received the first number of a
new paper just started at Berwick, publish

Both houses of the legislature have pass

We learn from the Tiffin, Ohio, Gazette,
that the 23d and 2Clh days of May were
distinguished throughout Ohio, by tremen
dous storms of wind, rain and hail, and that
great damage was sustained by the crops
and buildings. In Maumee city a block of
buildings which cost 840,000 was levelled
to tho ground, and many others seriously
injured, lp Delaware, Delaware county,
ten thousand panes of glass wero broken by
the hail. Many of the hail stones weigh-
ing from two to six ounces, and measured
from five to eleven inches in circumference.
Several houses and barns were struck by
lightning, and some lives lost.
T. W. Dyott lias been sentenced 7 years

The Rising Generation. Tho New

about 400 young thieves, male and female,
in New York, who daily triage a descent
from the upper part of tho city into tho two
lower warus, ami who uoluly break open
and pillago packages of ineruhuiitdizo, and
apparently with impunity
A New Fashion. It is said that the
subscribers to a paper somewhere in Ohio,
have adopted the fashion of paying for it
six months in auvanca ! ! Wo hope the
fashion will prevail in Pennsylvania.
Unprecedented Travelling. Tho Balti
