much needed improvement is , being made
in Bald Eagle Valley in the' natute of a
bridge across Bald Eagle creek, about one
mile below Curtin's Works on the farm of

the abutments.
Another bridge is very much needed across

figures in several prominent places through
out town lother morning; gave rise to ma
ny surmises. Some thought it was a Su
Klux arrangement, and others ;Criiiduded
that they didn't know what Was meant.
However a very sagacious individual intiiii
a.tecl that these symbolic figures, might
possibly have some connection with the .
reduced Democratic majority - in this cotm
ty. We believe his explanation was the
correct one.
IN voting for badges to be presented to
the most popular Conductor and Brake
man on the B. E. V. and T. & C. R. R.,
at the Catholic Fair held at Tyrone week
before last, the choice fell upon Conductor -
W. C. Irwin, and Brakestuan S. B. Hood,
of the Tyrone and Clearfield Branch. The
amount realized by tile Fair, throuiih the,
badges, is estimated at three hundred and
fifty dollars. While speaking of Mr. Irvin,
we take pleasure in noticing the fact, that
his train, which runs into Bellefonte each
evening, is now made up of new and very
elegant cars, which are in themselves quite
a luxury.

of their own fortunes. sow, if we were to
give directions for the • accumulation of
"stamps," we should iusiat upon, as re
quisite, a free indulgence in industrious
habits, a judicious coarse of advertising,
a gentlemanly deportment, with strict
honesty. BUt here we have described ex
actly the process by which the arm of Loeb,
May & Loeb have attained their peat suc
cess. And then too we should not neglect
th . e fact that their goods are always of the
best, while the prices are reasonable.

distance from town some time during last
week, by a man who was driving a car on
a tram road near Coplin Sz Co's Mill. The

A few days since, twelve fine specimens of
the piscatorial inhabitants of the Potomac,
were left to flounder with impunity in the
Juniata - river, by this gentleman.
Professor Day, a colored divine, preach
ed In the Methodist church of Huntingdon
on Sunday last, morning and evening. He
impressed his hearer with his eloquence,
and we have no doubt that many an indi
vidual's prejudicial belief that nothing sen
sible can come from a colored man, was
happily removed.

CAVED IN.—One of the abutmunts o
the Broad Top Railroad bridge spanning
the mill race of Fisher & Sons, in Hun
tington, gave way on Saturpay last, throvi
ing large quantities of stone into the stream.
A locomotive and tender had passed over
the bridge a few moments before the acci
dent. The bridge was kept in its place by
the rails of the tract and timbers. Work-•
men were promptly on hand and in a short
ttme trestled the bridge so that tra,mz. were
able to pass. The masonry of this bridge
is of the most inferior kind, and the great .
wonder is that it bad not given way long
api• lithe old wall will be taken .down,
and its place supplied with one more" sub
stantial.

a tornado which prevailed in that place on
Thursday of last week., it seems that the
rearwall'of the new Methodist church, iu

gationalist chnrch in Johnstown, the scaf
fold fell, and they were precipitated to the

13 years of age, named Vangelder; living
at Air. Amos Raymond's iu Ulyssus town
ship, this county, was killed by a horse on
Sunday afternoon, the 11th instant. He
had, a day or, two previous, in watering
the horse at the.well, tied the halter to his
ancle while drawing. the water, and was
told that , he must not do so again as he
might get killed: On this occasion he took
the horse to the well, and, probably tied
the halter as before, as in a few minutes af
ter the horse was seen ruuningat full speed,
with the boy attached to the . halter, }lying
in the air, and within two minutes after
terward was taken up perfectly lifeless, his
