with sore throat. For two years I suffered with ca

were drawn out of place with the asthma, and my
throat !coked like raw beef. After applying to va
rious physicians and obtaining no relief, I finally
applied to Mrs. M. G. Brown, by whose medicines
I haft: boon so much benefited that I am now like
another woman. Formerly the least exposure gave
me cold; I could not go to the door with my head
uncovered without an attack of the asthma. My
asthma is now entirely gone. Mr _Deterrh hap
wholly disappeared. I felt weak and languid fOr
many years, so that I was aburden to myself.. The

Real Recc2ttraoiton.
Our great civil War: was a terrible min
die" between the ideas of oar Declaration
of Independence and;the aristo:ratio
law
leepness and pridef the slave p ower;
therefore, though be gi n on our partin de
fence of au imperilled Union, it inevitably
became a war against slavery as the Impla•
cable fde of that Union.
Smitten with sore' defeat, the rebel ar
mien are disbanded. :So rar, well; bat we
want peaoe, union, oonoord--not nominal,
but real.
How can two walk together union' they
be argeed 1"
We must be agreed for the suprernacy of
the inalienable right of man. Thus' Only ,
can come peace, unity. and the true granr
dour of the nation.
" Aeconstruot" is the cry. "Take back
the States lately in rebellion. Open ,the ,
Capitol doors for all. Thus shall come
harmony." Fair , and specious, but some
times " haste makes waste."
Are we to rebuild on the ideas of the
immortal Declaration, as on solid granite;
or on the quicksands and bloody mire of
rebel pride and hate of those ideas?
So far, a rebel heart is the best prams•
tee for a Southern vote. There are golden
exceptions, few and prized; but this is the
rule. No regret for crime, no premise, or
Intent of amendment, but the same fight,
with sword or ballot, with arm or tongue,
against the ideas vital to the life of the
Republic; and reconstruction to them
means simply a broad, free - field, and ample
vantage ground for the conflict: Snob are
most of the mon clamoring for admission
to the Capitol.
Little did our bravo soldiers at Gettys
burg and in the t loody Wilderness think
they were helping rebel leaders to Con
gress.
Those heroes never dreamed of rich trai
tors pardoned by hundreds, and ready to
step in.o high places, while loyal men,
white or blink, could not speak out for. the
old flag and' the good cause without insult
and peril.
The old cry of " let us alone" comes up
again, insolent as ever. " Withdraw your
soldiers. Leave the freedmen to us. We
can best manage our own affairs." And -
crime holds high carnival already in the
light of revived hopes of 'amnestied trai
tors.
Dead "bcdies of murdered negrooa float
down Southern rivers, and the loyal• white
man fares little better than tho hapless
blank.
. "Treason a crime !" Where Is Jefferson
Davis, the arch traitor? Safe in Fort Mon
roe, looking complacently from Richmond
to Washington, as hopeful, well-nigh, of
the one as the other.
Meanwhile, there are true men all over
the South. Those of high position tabooed
from social life, shut out of all political sap
tivity, often buying safety by silence. The
faithlul, too, poor in gold or lands, but rick
in• noble hearts,. waiting so anxiously for
some safety and freedom? And that host '
of sable loyalists, in whose hearts no guile'
has been found, and wl ose hands were
strong for us in the battle.
Reconstruct for all these, and 'We build ,
on the rock. Nothing for vengeance, but
all for justice, which is ono with safety, ad
