Allentown, July 18, 1805-Iyl
SOrofula, or K ing's Evil,'
is a constitutional disease, a corruption of the
blood, by which this fluid becomes 'vitiated,
weak, and poor. "Being in the circulation, it
pervades the whole body, and may burst ant '
in disease on any part of its No organ is free
from its attacks, nor is there one which it may
not destroy. The scrofulous taint is variously
caused by mercurial disease, low living, dis
ordered or unhealthy food, , impure air, filth
and • filthy habits, the depressing vices, and, !
above all, by the venereal infection. What-'
ever be its origin,. it is hereditary in the con
stitution, 'descending from parents to' children
unto the third tuld fourth generation ;" indeed,;
it seems to be the rod of IBM who says, ' , I
n ill visit the iniquities of the ",fathers upon
,their.diildren." -
Its effects commence by deposition ftom the
blood of corrupt or ulcerous matter, which, in
the lungs, liver, and: internal organs, istermed
tubercles ; in the glands, swellings ; and on
the surface, eruptions or sores. This foul cor
ruption, which genders in the blood, depresses
the energies of life, so that scrofuloussonstitu
tions not only suffer from scrofulous coin !
plaints, but they have far less power to with
stand the attacks of other diseases; conse
quently vast numbers perish by disorders
which; although not scrofulous in their nature,
are still rendered fatal by this taint in the
slaters. Most of the cusuraption which de
mates the human family has its origin directly
in this scrofulous contamination; and many
destructive diseases of the liver, kidneys, brain,
and, indeed, of all the organs, arise from or
are aggravated by the same cause.
One quarter of all our people are scrofulous ; '
their persons are invaded by this lurking in
fection, and their health is undermined •by it.
To cleanse it from the system we must renovate
the blood by an alterative medicine, and, in-•

Allentown Bone Mill,

TN consequence of the increased demand for this
the most valuable of all manures or fertilisers,,
wo advise farmers to secure a supply before spring.
We prepare Ground Bone or Bone Dust strictly
pure, and will gFarantee that note partiole of adul
teration enters into ittl' Composition. - As tfiis can
not be said,of most of the prepared fertilisers, we
caution farmers to use an article prepared "at home"
and known to be pure. We have examined "Phork
pates," and can readily pronounce them largely
adulterated, with Jersey Marl, Coal Ashes, Plaster,
Limo Stone, or come other substauces, which have
no fertilising properties, or much less than pure
,bone,
For the information of those not acquainted with.
the properties of Bone Dust, we append the .follow--

I see a great , deal in year paper about the use of
bone dust.or flour. I have thought a good many
times I would give you a little of my experience in
that matter. In 1844 I lived in a house ofen hide

an acre of corn on a pine plain. That farmer had
been for Many . years'gatherins all the old, bones be
could find. That spring he carried them to a phut

of the flour, which I put on one-half of my pleopef
corn. It had a wonderful effect. The /talks grew
a foot hirer than on the other half, and ware dark
