The Red Lion.
What's the matter 1 what's the fuss 1 what's loose
what's up ?
Whiles the cause of this mighty commotion !
Is the Jordan on Are ? Is the Lehigh dried up ?
Have the mountains been sot all in motion ?
What does Jack yell about? what is got into Brown
" Why tho world racing and running?—
It is the Rad Lion, ho lays himself down
With an air full of comfort and cunning ;
He shakes his think mane as if in great angers
But riot with intent to devour,
For be merely roars out: where is friend Gauge
were?
And asks him the very same hour :
Who says that you had been chased out of the
square, , r •
'Cause fifty more rocks had been kicking ?
It cannot be true, for it would not be fair,
Unless through some partisan tricking.
This pleases old Gangwero, and puts him in cheer
And he sings out: we'll make it all right, sir.
Had I but continued to take seine one's beer,
I could stay where I was, without doubt, sir. •
They think that tho square is a magnet of might,
Surpassing tho North Pole's attraction,
And draws to its focus, by day and by night
Tho friends of a pure Malt-Decoction.
My "Pretzels" have always been splendid, they say,
And so was my " Swietzer"--by Jingo !
And Segars that I've frequently given away,
Ara selling at 3 cents in Mingo.
♦nd had I not served up so "bully,' indeed,
It would be " by golly" no wonder,
That no one would follow mo over the street,
When others do servo over yonder.
Now, finally, friends and acquaintances, come.
And meet at the lied Lion nightly.
Your old daddy Gangewer has plenty of room
You'll find none so clever and sprightly.
And should his new cellar take fire, the flame
Could be quenchod with delicious lager
And'the fire in the stomach his lunches will tame,
•
Then mind and look out for
AB. GANGWERE.

STOMACH BITTERS.
The proprietors and manufacturers of HOS
TETTER'S, CELEBRATED STOMACH BIT
TERS can appeal with - perfect confidence to
physicians and citizens generally of the United
States, because the article has attained repu
teflon heretofore unknown. A few facts upon
this point will • speak inure pOwerfully than
volumes of bare assertion or blazoning Wray.
The consumption of Hostetter's Siouinch
term for the last.year amounted to over a half-
Million 'Lollies; and front its manifest steady
increase in times past, it is evident that during
the. coming year the consumption will reach
near ono million bottles. This immense amount.
could never have been sold but for the litre
'medicinal properties contained in the prepare
tioti, and the sanction of the most prominent.
.physicians those sections of the count ry .whre the article is best known, who not only
recomMend the Bitters to their patients, but
are readrat all times to give testimonials to its
efficacy in all cases of stomachic derangements
and the diseases resulting therefrom.
not a temporary popularity, obtained
by extraordinary efforts in the way of trum
peting the qualities °Oho Ditteh, but a solid
estiiination of an invaluable Medicine, which is
(168100'10 be as euddring as lime itself.
lbastetler's Stomach' Bitters have proved
' a Gadiend to regions where fever and ague
and various other bilious complaints have
.counted their victims by liUndreds. To be
able to state confidently that. the "Bitters"
are a certain cure for the Dyspepsia and like
diseases, is to the proprietors n source of un
alloyed pleasure. It removes all morbid matter
from the stomach, purifies the blood, and
imparts renewed vitality to the nervous System,
giving it that tong and energy indispensable
for the restoration of health. It operates upon
the stomach, liver, and other digestive organs,
mildly but powerfully, and soon restores them
to acondition essential to the healthy discharge
of the functions of nature.
Elderly persons may use. the Bitters daily as
per directions on the bottle, and they will Lind
in it rt stimulant peculiarly adapted to comfort
declining years, as it is pleasant to the palate,
invigorating to the bowels, excellent as a tonic,
and rejuvenating generally. We have the evi
dence of thousands of aged men and women
who have experienced the benefit of using this
preparation while suffering from stomach de
rangements and general debility; acting under
the advice of physicians, they have abandoned
all deleterious drugs and fairly tested the
merits of this article. A few words to the
gentler sex. There aro certain periods when
their cares are se harassing that many of them
sink under the trial. The relation of mother
and child is so absorbingly tender, that the
mother, especially if she he young, is apt to
forget her own health in her extreme anxiety
for Elm' infant. Should the period of maternity
arrive during the summer season, the wear of
body and mind is generally aggravated. Here,
then, is a necessity for a stimulant to rectipe
rate the energies of the system, and enable the
mother to bear up under her exhausting trials
and responsibilities. Nursing mothers gene
rally prefer the Bitters to all other invigora
tors that receive the endorsement of physi
cians, because it is agreeable to the taste as
well as certain to give a permanent increase
of bodily strength.
All those persons, to whom we have particu
larly referred above, to wit : sufferers from
fever and ague, caused by malaria, diarrhoea,
dysentery, indigestion, loss of appetite, and
all diseases or derangements of the stomach,
superannuated invalids, persons of sedentary
occupation, and nnr'sing mothers, will consult
their own physical welfare by giving to Hos
tetter's Celebrated Stomach. Bitters a trial. •
CAUTION.—We caution the public against
using any of the ninny imitations or counter
feits, but ask for HOSTETTER'S CELEBRATED
STOMACH Bursas, and see that each bottle has
t he words „ Br. J. Hostetter's Stomach Bitters"

SETA W. Fowr.r: & Co. Gentlemen t first
made uae of the Oxygenated Bitten some seven or
eight years since. Having suffered fur twenty years
from a form of dyspepsia, which tear attended with a
nervous headache, on an average of not lees than one
day in a week, I was induced, by the unpretending rec
ommendation of Dr. Green, "to try one bottle, anti if
nn benefit was received to diarontinne the iiso."
The use of one bottle warranted a furthertrial, to the
extent of some Three or four, with a careful observance
of the accompanying directions. The result was, an
almost entire relief from the usual dyspeptic sytnptoms
and their depressing, painful conatiquences. I believe
these Bittern produced nn entire change In the habits of
my system, anti upon the active energies of the digestive .
organs. I now deem myself as exempt from Dyspepsia
as mom perione. These Bittern have also been of ser
vice to other members of my family.
Very respectfully yours,
AUGUSTUS W. SMiTII.
