    ini'SI4OOUNTEI6 WIWI A WOLIN-S9Mg , two or
three weeks since a, very large male wolf, driv
en by hunger from the forests, made his ap
pearance in the region of country in this coun
ty known as the Crossings Forks. He 'corn
mencid his depredations upon stock, and began
to be a great annoyance to the husbandmen of
that locality. At last a Young man named
Christian Beachy, who had frequently seen his
tracks in the snow, declared his intention to
give him chase if he ever came across him when
he (Beachy) was on his favorite horse. A few
days since Beachy, in company with another
•jroting man, also mounted, beheld the Wolf's
track in the snow. lt was apparently just
made, and a dash after him was at once deci
ded upon. The snow was two feet deep, but,
t riothing daunted, Beachy, on his powerful
horse, plunged through it into the forest;fol
lowed by his companion who was unable to
keep up. The wolf finding himself pursued,
'dashed forward, but the gallant steed of Bea
chy, after a chase of half an hour, bore him by
the side of the wolf. Springing from his horse,
he (being unarmed) caught the animal by the
tail. Then a battle ensued of a fierce charac
ter.
The wolf snapped his powerful jaws in
rage, but, by continually jerking him about and
administering at every opportunity a Powerful !
kick with a heavy boot in the side, be Managed
to hold on uninjured until the arrival of his i
companion, when the ferocious animal was dis- I
patched with a well-aimed blow from a club.
Beachy is a man of great muscular power and
Courage, which enabled him to'reMin his hold
upon the wolf until he ivas dispatched. When
his companion arrived he was nearly exhausted.
The wolf would not have been so easily cap
tured, but, being indiszreet .in his younger
days, he had put one of his ft et in a steel trap
and thereby lost the entire foot to the first joint.

" HONOR TO W 11101 'HON( I% IS Der."—The
great number of persons in all parts ofthe coun
try who have experienced the health-restoring
and blood-purifying effects of Carter's Spanish
Mixture in curing many of the worst forms of
Scrofula, Rheumatism, and all diseases arising
from impurity of the blood, has created a de
mand for it which is alike gratifying to pro
prietors and patients. Among the thousand
medicines which profess to cure all the diseas-
I'S with which mankind is afflicted, Carter's
Spanish Mixture stands like n monument, a
" giant among pigmies," and all owing to the
simple fact that it does really possess properties
found in no other, and cures by its spec; tic pow
er oVer the blond ; expelling from that great seat
of life all impurities of lurking disease, opening
the secretions, acting gently on the Liver, and in
fact, adding and assisting nature to collect her
energies : thuS giving strength and vigor in
stead of weakness and debility. The trial of.ii

valuable remedy.
