The horie Lexington was onterned 'against the fast time of Lecop►pte, who run the four Miles in 7.26. - The four miles werw sccomplished in 7.191, besting"Lecompto's great run six and a quarter second!. The purse was for $20,000. te.iington is a Xentucky nag, owned by Mr. Tenbrook, of New York. Lecompte is a Lou -Isjima nag, and owned by COl. *ells, of Red River, La. Both nags run in the, great Post Stake race over the Metairie course last year, when Lecompte. distanced Lexington. Now the latter , takes the laurels. It is understood both horses will run together again in- a few Weeks. TEILUZLIC AFFRAY.—New Orleans papers bring us an account of a terrible and fatal af fray in that city. Two men named Harrison and Duffy, got into a quarrel on account of one having given important testimony against the other in a case tried two years ago, and finally drew a pistol.and fired at Duffy, who fled into the billiard room of the St. Charles . Hotel. Harrison pursued him, fired his revolver, and finally hit him with ,. two shots, which killed him. But while the chase was going' on in the billiard room, Duffy finding himself too hotly pursued, drew his pistol and fired it over his shoulder backwards, thinking to hit llarrison. The ball struck a spectator named Dr. Parsons, and killed him. BACHELOR ODDITIES.—The Methodist Advo cate tells the following story : Some years ago, a rich old bachelor died in this city, leaving behind him two dogs. In his will he bequeathed the dogs to a pati.Qular friend, and left $2OOO to be appropriated to their maintainance and buried. The other is still living, though far advanced in age. Half of the money has been drawn, the other half will be paid over as soon as the living dog be comes a dead one and is decently buried. The (logs were to be, and will be according to the will, buried one at his head, the other at his feet. POWDER FOR TILE CRIMEA.- The Powder Mills of the Messrs. DuPont, the largest in the world, situated three miles from the city of Wilming ton, Del., on the Brandywine, are now, and have been for some time, making powder for the French army in the Crimea. An explosion occurred at one of these mills on Tuesday morn ing. No one was in the mill at the time. It sounded like an earthquake, end shook the ground with a low rumbling noise. Terrific explosions and greet loss of life are frequently occurring at these mills. She immediately applied a poultice made of cranberries, which seem to arrest it at once, and the second poultice eft*ected a complete cure.", WITHDRAWAL FROM KNOW-NOTHING LODGES. —Eleven members of Know-Nothing lodge or council, No. 16, at Winchester, Virginia, have publiihcil a card, renouncing any further con nection with the order. They state that seve ral other cards of withdrawal will soon be an nounced, one already being signed by' twenty members. Forty-six members of the council at Harper's Ferry, Virginia, have also withdrawn, and publicly announced the fact.
