Cuiversal Counterfeit & Altered Bank
NOTE DETECTOR
THE Subscriber desires to call the atten-
Lion of the business public to a system of
Counterfeit and Altered Bank Note detec
tion, by which any, counterfeit or altered
note of any modern plate in the U. S. can
be.infallibly detected at a glance. The sys
tem consists of eight simple rules which ex
plain the principle of the work of the sever
al kinds of expensive and perfect engraving
engines in general use by all batik note en
graving Co., and show wherein all counter
feits fail in imitating some one thing or oth
er. Counterfeiters may be ever so well ac
quainted with the system, but their knowl
edge will only serve to demonstrate the fol
ly of their ever attempting to imitate exact
ly a genuine. plate ;
.for the capital necessa
ry to do this may be much more profitably
employed in executing genuine notes for
the use of banks.
The Subscriber's brother has published.
a little work embodying this system which
may be briefly described in the following
terms:
The Universal Counterfeit and Altered
Note Detector at Sight ! applicable to any
bank in the U. S. now in circulation or
hereafter issued ; a small pamphlet of 20
pages, with illustrative diagrams.
'Fite New York Scientific American of
February 23d says of this work :
Our readers will see in another column the
advertisement of 11. C. Foote's Universal Coun
terfeit Bank Note Detector. We have examined
the system, and have no hesitation in stating that
it will do more than all others now in use, to.
wards ridding the country of counterfeit notes.
The instructions which accompany the magni
fying glass, will enable a person with very little
trouble to determine between good and bad notes.
We notice among those who have reccommend
ed the system, the names of F. W. Edmonds, Esq.,
cashier of, the Mechanics Bank N. Y., E. H. Ar
thur, Esq., of the Union Dank ; C. S. Sloan, bro
ker, ‘Vall Street, and many other prominent
money-dealers. From what we can learn we
should think it a subject of UniverSal interest."
Commendable notices from other papers
might be given, but this suffices for the
present. The Subscriber will give lessons
in this System to any requiring it. TERMS.
$3. 00. Besides the instructions, a magni
fying glass and the pamphlet will be given
without extra charges. TERMS for the pam
phlk and glass alone, $2.
P. S. If satisfaction be not given, the mon
ey will be refunded. EDW. FOOTE.

FOR THE CURE OF
Consumption, Coughs, Colds, 4.c.,
THOSE who are suffering from remit
ting or Intermitting Bilious Complaints,
should read the following, and be guided
thereby :
Cause of Pain.—Pain is the consequence
of the exertion of the organ or part where it
is present to throw ofl morbid or corrupt hu
mors, for no pain can exist but from the pre
sence of those matters which are of an un
healthy character. When we have pain
in the head, in the bowels, or in any other
part of the body, it only proves the presence
of matters which the blood is trying to re
move, and it is this stru g gle which is the oc
casion of pain. To be bled, only removes
the anguish in proportion as the amount of
life is reduced, and the same may be said of
all lulling or soothing remedies. Not . so
with Brandreth's Pills ; they at imee go to
the assistance of the blood in - aiding it to
discharge bad humors, to conquerthe Death
rriticipie• u
does not leave any bad effects, The Life
Principle is not reduced, nor are the teeth
destroyed ; but all the organs are cleansed
and their health insured.

astonishing efficacy in the cure of pulmona

"C. H. Williams, Mr, 1)., F. R. S.,
Professor of Medicine in University College,
London, Consulting Physicians to the Hos
pital for consumption, &c., says ; 1 have
prescribed the Oil in the above four hun
dred eases of tuberculous disease of the
Lungs, in different stages, which have been
under my cure the last two years and a
half. In the huge number of cases, 206,
out of 2:14, its Ilse was followed by marked
and unequivocal improvement, varying in
degree in different cases from a temporary
retardation of the progress of the disease
and a mitigation of distressing symptons, up
to a more or less complete restoration to ap
parent health.
~ ,T he effect of Cod Liver Oil in most of
these cases was very remarkable. Even in
a few days the cough was mitigated, the
expectoration diminished in quantity and
opacity, the night sweats ceased, the pulse
became slower, and of better volume; and
the appetite, flesh and strength tiers gradu
ally improved.
. conclusion, I repeat, that the pure
fresh oil front the Liver of the Cod is more
beneficial in the treatment of Pulmonary
Consumption than any agent, medicinal,
dietetic or regimenal, that has yet been'em
ployed."

as a liniment, With mavlced success ; and'wouldl
commend it to physicians generally for externalt
use in all eontutions.tumors, sprains, white swell
ings, and in all rhumatic affection, where exter
nal means are necessavy. As a discutent it is.
harmless where the febrile symptoms have been.
reduced by general treatment. In such cases it
is the most efficient remedy within the circle oP
means now in use.
I would also recommend irr entninnnity an
large as a safe and powerful ottmedy where•
there is no general fever in all the above diseas
es to be used freely and to counteract inflamation.
in a remarkable manner. In bruised wounds ill
prevents swelling and consequent soreness in.
hot weather.
From the peculiar naiiire of this 'Oil, and the
unparalleled success it has mct within the hands•
of the

it is but justice to say, that of the great number
of medicines which have been offered, none have
been so well adapted to the prompt cure of dis

very justly called a complete PANACEA roll THE
