There are many preparations sold under the name of

This elass of Bitters has naiad, and will continue to
cause, as long as they can be sold, hundreds to die the
death of the drunkard. By their use the system is kept
continually under the influence of kenholic Stimulants of

From Bev. IT Newton Brown, D. D i Editor of Encyclo-

Although not disposed to favor or recommend Pat
ent Medicines in general, through distrust of their ingre
dients and effects, I yet know of no sufficient reasons
why a man may not testify to the benefits he believes
himself to have received from any simple tweiStifaii6ll,
in the hope that he may thus contribute to the benefit
of others.
I do this more readily in regard to "Hoodand's German
Bitters," prepared by Dr. fj, M, Jackson, of this city,
because I was prejudiced against them for years, under
the impression that they were 'chiefly an alcoholic mix
ture. lam indebted to ray friend, Robert Shoemaker,
Esq., for the removal of this prejudice by proper tests,
and for encouragement to try them when suffering from
great and long continued debility. The use of three
bottles of these Bitters, at the beginning of the present
year, was followed by evident relief and restoration to a
degree of bodily and xaflutei vigor which I had not felt
for six months before,
and had almost despaired of re.
gaining. I therefore thank God and my friend. for di
resting me to tire use of them.

be readily cured by Healed's German Bitters. We have
no hesitation in stating that if these Bitters were freely
used among our soldiers. hundreds of lives might be saved
that otbetwise would be lost.

T. LYON'S PURE OHIO CATAWBA
• BRANDY.
THE OHIO CATAWBA BRANDY has,. for several
years, been manufactured from the pure juice of the
AMERICAN CATAWBA and ISABELLA GRAPE. and
has attained a rare popularity throughout the West and
South, where great quantities of this superb article is
sold for MEDICINAL and FAMILY purposes. It not
only equals, but excels the most choice IMPORTED
BRANDIES in PIIIMIY, QUALITY and RICHNESS OP
FLAVOR, and wherever it has been introduced it had
invariably met the mostiumpalitled favor and extended
sale.
The want of really pare Brandy has long been felt In
this country, and the opportunity to procure an article
of such quality as to supercede the sale and use of the
many vile compounds so often sold under the name of
" Brandy," can be regarded only as a public good.
L. LYON'S CATAWBA BRANDY possesses all the
choice qualities of the best imported liquor,
audio posi
tively known to be of PRRPJ&CT PURITY and of SU-
. . . -
PBRIOR FLAVOR.
In support of the above statement, we refer to the
certificate of the undermentioned well-known chemists :
Dr. A. A. Reyes . , Assayer, Boston, Masa.
Dr. James R. Chilton & Co., Chemists, New York.

Dr. Charles Upham Sheppard, Charleston, 8. C.

Dr. N. A. Pratt, Savannah, Georgia.
