THE FIGHT AT THE MAY ilousz.—The. result of
the disturbances created by the soldiers . on Mon
day evening at the May House are more serious
than at first reported. The ,fight was of an obsti
nate and bloody character, and a large number
were more or less irjured. We learn that the
baritender at the hotel received very rough treat
ment,and now lies in a critical condition.:

regiment Pennsylvania - volunteers, Colonel Allen,
lately belonging to the First Army Corps, reached
Camp Curtin yestgrday. The following regiments
of drafted Pennsylvania militia have also arrived
here sir.ee our last report : 168 it, Col. Jos. Jack,
of Pittsburg; 166:13, Col. Andrew J. Fulton, of
York; 1781 h, Col. James Johnston, of Harrisburg.
These men will all be mustered out and. sent to
their hymen as speedily as praeticable.

delightful summer rescrt, either in the seaboard or
inland States, than Gibbons' Loretto Springs.—
These springs are situated in the hearrof the A'-
legheny Mountains, one mile from the village of
4 ?! . &let% and four milts from Creston gallon. on
the'Pennsylvania relined. They are nearly three
thousand feet above tide-water, and consegiently
the air is always bracing and invigorating, t.l - e
average summer temperature seldom ranging
above seventy degrees. The buildings are admi
rably. constmeted and ventilated, and the rooms
supplied' with running spring water and hot and
cold baths. The table is always well supplied, and
the bar stocked with pure liquors. The best of mu
sic will be furnished during tbe season by Garret's
Parisian band, Ralf-price excursion. tickets to
Cresson will be furnished to visitors by the Penn

ter General has issued an order requiring that, in
every -sub-postoffice, whose gross receipts in the
previous fiscal year amounts to ono hundred dol
lars or more, a book shall be kept, in which shall
be entered ill complaints of missing letters of value
clamed to have been deposited or addressed to
such °flea, together with a brief statement of the
most essential facts in such case. When doubts
exist as to the truthfulness of any couiplaintohe
postmaster may require the sworn affieti vit of the
person complaining. - At the close of each quarter
the aggregate number of Complaints which shall
remain at that time unaccounted far, id to be tians
mitted to the Inspection Department of the-office,
according to prescribed form. - This order is not
intended to supersede or change the rule of the
standing regulations requiring reports of supposed
depredations, AS Stith cases may arise from time
to time.-
POLICE AFFAIRS.—Before Alderman
Lewis Bobb, of Selinsgrove, was arrested. on Tues
day night by officer Essig for insulting females
on the street, on complaint of John Young. Mr.
Bobb was engaged in ratroling The streets on his

were unfortunate enough to be on his beat. The
uncbivalric Lewis . was placed in "Jewrents phial,"
as the Baldinsviile (Injimmy) showman would

William Hall, a nazi°, was arrested by officer
Essig yesterday for breaking into the house of
"Elizabeth Billings, in South greet, on 'predatory
thought intent—at least, circtunstiinces squinted
strongly in that direction. Hall's offense was
judged to partake nicre of vagrancy than of house
breaking, and he was accordingly committed for
a term of days.
Michael Bergen and James Morris, both belong
ing to one of the New York regiments lately here,
were found by officer Campbell drunk awl demor
alized, and brought before the magistrate, who sent
them
.to thg. Walnut, street barracks for twelve
hours.
Alex_ &mart, a soldier, woe found on Monday
night in company with Louisa Cook, a dark corn
*card contrabandista of •Attestionabla chastity
and most unquestionable un.cleanliness,and l raught
into the magisterial presence by °Meer Newman.
The carnal Alex. and his dusky paramour both
Tweed the night in the locklip, and were released

Amos Price, a contraband, was arrested by offi
cer Newman for drunkenness and vagrancy, and

William Mower was arrested by officer Camp

Here are ten or fifteen thousand men who have
endured the rigors of a winter campaign, kayo
faced the firy death that thee and sings over the

asm by those whose firesides they have defended

of other defenders upon whose homeward path the

whose return has been celebrated with feast and

friend who has long been afflicted with this gainful
disease, awl who has resorted to every remedy
suggested by the most skillful medical practition
ers, without finding relief, informs us that he has
finally discovered a sovereign sure for this terrible
malady. It is simple, bat certain. It consists of
a mixture of lead and gunpowder, in the folloWing
proportions, viz : Four teaspoonfuls of gunpowder,.
of beat qutlity, and half an ounce of lead. Ti e

the military service of the United States." In all
cases in which the reverend gentlemen were nut
exempt by law, the congregations to which they
were attached promptly otatributed - the amount
necessary to relieve them from the service, frtm
entering on whica they -were forbidden by the
laws of the Church.
VERY IRREGULAR --Tbe Philadelphia Age and
Harrisburg PATRIOT AND timing arrive at th id Gale
very irresrularly. We receive no °vies of .either
of these Democratic journals for several days, and
then get four or five at. once. The Harrisburg
"Telegraph," Abolition, arrives regularly. We
notice similar complaints among our contempora
ries. The Ili:seism who presides over the post
office at Harrisburg can possibly tell the reason
why.—Tenango Spectator.
If ho can't, we cannot surmise who can. Our
exebanges in dinviot looilifies 'complain of tbo
same irregularities.. Our daily package to Pitts
burg, for instance, although mailed before ~one
o'clock , at night, reaches that place from twelve to
twenty-four hours behind the " Telegraph" of the
next morning. We mail our papers regularly ;
for the rest, all we can do is to refer the Spectator
and other anxious inquirers to our D—matadt
postmaster. We can do no more. The question
of the rightfulness or wrongfulness of Birch - small
actions turns altogether .on "loyal Y;" In -these
days meanness, like beauty, is, Fits own excuse for

THE 166TH PENNA. 311tarts.--Th4i I66th regi
ment Pennsylvania militia arrivad in this city
yesterday and are now quartered at CAmp Curtin,
preparatory to being mastered out of the United
states service. The regiment is principally-from
York county and is composed entirely of drafted
men. The following is a list of the field and staff
officers : -

The regiment entered the service with 705 en

They were in the engagements of Saffolk and
Elftekwater, and recently participated lei the cam
paign und:r Oan. Keys near Riohniond. They
lost ten Men in killed and between thirty and forty
wounded: -Lieut Col. Reisinger is a resident cf
this Car. Ile is now in command of the regimens,
and has led it succeisfally in every ti s rlit iihich
it was engaged.
