Nsofto &qrs.—Two negroes were captured up the valley toward Carlisle yesterday, and placed in the guard house just across the river, on suspi cion of being rebel spies. They had not had a hearing up to last accounts. SPIES AIM PinsonEns.—Quite a number of rebel spies and prisoners were taken in the Cumberland Valley during yesterday, and were sent to this place and put under guard at Camp Curtin. We will endeavor to give the result of their examina tion, and the subsequent disposition made of them in our next issue. ANOTHXR CANT' ENTABLISHOTh — QaPtain 3. F. Brisbin, U. S. A., Chief of Cavalry, has established a new camp for cavalry on the farm of A. Boyd Hamilton, Esq., east of town. The cavalry of the State will rendezvous here, and be organized into companies and regiments. The number now in the new camp is not large, but it is increased by daily accessions. Colturnirstr.—Twos on the Union Bank, of Rodin& Ps, And fifty sent postal currency notes, were in circulation in Philadelphia on Saturday. The latter are lithographed, and so closely resem ble the genuine that it is difficult to detect them. Notes on the Palisade Bank, Yonkers, N. Y.-10a altered from Is—and counterfeit 5s on the City Bank, Oswego, N. Y., are also in circulation. The venerable procession was escorted by Majors Lambsback and Ballet, of the Philadelphia Police company, from the Court House to "the Capitol, where they tendered their services to the Governor. Gov. Curtin responded in a brief epeeeb, accepting their service,, returning them his hearty thanks, complimenting their spirit and patriotism, and indulging in soma rather severe 11.1:miens upon the lukewarmness and inactivity manifested by the mate of our younger wizens. MILITARY CLAIMS AND Passioss.—We call the attention of those interested to the card of the firm of M'Dowell Jr, Maguire, collectors of mili tary claims, pensions, &c. Officers' pay rolls and mustering-in and mustering-out rolls, ordnanc e returns, etc., Made out with correctness and dis patch. The gentlemen composing this firm are thoroughly competent and reliable, and have had long experience in that branch of the law busi ness which they advertise in our columns this mording. THE REVIVAL OF THE COTTON FACTORY ROSPI TAL.—The building near the Cotton Factory, for merly used for the purpose of storing cotton, is re-opened, and again converted into a hospital.— The principal room has been fitted up with one hundred bode, the Walla whitewashed, and very desirable improvements made in'the way of ven tilation. One decided improvement is the erection of tents outside the building, to serve as sleeping apartments for the nurses. The whole will be under the supervision of Surgeon Woods, formerly of the Fifty-second Pennsylvania volunteers. Arrunrrioa, Smvan GRAYS.—The members will meet at the comer of Pao. and Second tareat- 4 thie day, June 25, 1863, at 5 o'cloek, p. m., in order to make arrangements to offer our services to the Governor, to defend the oity, our homes and fami lies. All persons over 45 years of age, and able and willing to bear arms, (the necessity being argent,) are expected to be present, preparatory to making a requisition for arms. JOHN MAGIAIICHLIN, Capt. pro tem. QA ItAnsov...—Quite a number of the old soldiers of 1812 were on parade through our streets yester day afternoon. They bore with them &relic in the shape of a flag, which had been carried through 'that war, and was much tattered and soiled by the raysges of time and war. The men walked with firm and measured tread, keeping step to the music which bad quickened their youthful blood during the stirring events of well nigh fifty years ago. Time and age have dealt somewhat severely with many of these veterans, but, if the time of trial should come upon us, they will do all that lies in their polar for the defence of their -native State. REPORT OP THE WEATHER CLEM—The meteo rological reporter Of the Pittsburg Dispatch, who has gained some distinction for the reliability of his weather prognostications, calculates the atmos pheric arrangements for the next month. We put his prophecy on record, and leave the events to prove or disprove his scientific accuracy ; The indications for the present lunar month pre sent an entire contrast to those of the preceding month, which was very dry. The spell is now broken_ This month will be marked with mush dark, cloudy and thunder-storm weather. The prospects are good for the farmers and octal men, but inconvenient and uncomfortable for the army, where the signs are the same as in this locality. It may prove the theory that wet, cold springs produce wet and healthy summer and fall months. From some general observations, deduced from another theory which I have not particularly ex amined, I. am under 'the impression the wejither will be damp and dark neatly three-fourths of the time, np to September 21st, but this can be better ascertained at the time of the July moon. The weather last lunar month consisted of nineteen cloudy and part cloudy, eight rainy and eleven clear days. Toe indications from June 16th to my 1 6 h are, that nine-tenths of the month will be cloudy and part cloudy. Twenty-two days will be rainy, and we will have two or three of clear sunshine. MORE TROOPS FROM THE EMPIRE STATE.—.The Silty-Ninth regiment N. 1. S. M. left Brooklyn for this pity on Monday afternoon. There were upwards of six hundred men in the ranks. The men were fully uniformed and equipped, and were armed with Eafie!Critics. The following is a list of the officers ! Colonel, James Bagley ; Lieutenant Colonel, James Cavanaugh ; Adjatant, Wm. Fogarty ; Sur geon, Dr. Clarke ; Quartermaster, Joseph P. Fully ; Engineer, Capt. M'Quade. The Fifty-Second regiment N. Y. S. M. also left that city on the same day. Among them were a number of the First regiment Na w York volun teers, whose term of service recently expired.— Tiny are distinguished by the Kearney cross and a red patch on their nape. The regimental atom of the Fifty-Second are as follows : Colonel, M. W. Cole; Lieutenant Colonel, W. C. Booth ; Major, Edward Green; Qaartermaster, G. J. Hardy; Adjutant, George Hudson; Surgeor Joseph Jones; Commissary, William Cole. [We understand that the above regiment, on ar riving at Philadelphia, were met by an order to r: p or t t o Gen. Sa m na, instead of General Couch, and rceordingly went to Baltimore.] Since the departure of the Fifty-second, orders have been issued to the Forty-seventh regiment, Col. Meserole, and the Seventieth (cavalry) regi ment, Col. Cropsey, to proceed to Harrisburg as soon as possible. At last accounts the men were mustering, and the quartermasters bad made the necessary requisitions for supplies and equipments. The Forty-seventh expected to got off by this morning, but the Seventieth, being a cavalry regi. went, will perhaps require more time to equip theillee/Peti, Gen. Jesse i C. Smith, of the Eleventh New York brigade, was to arrive in this city last night and take command of his brigade. Gen. Crooke has received orders to report to Gen. Couch at Harrisburg, and will leave for this place to-day, to take command of the Flth New York brigade. [Communicated J THE DEACON'S Last Lis —Masora Editors :—I find the following in the Tory Hessian organ of Tuesday evening: One of the on dits of the rebel occupation of Chambersburg was the refusal of General Jenkins to take the hand of the late postmaster of that borough_ The rebel declared that he wee reedy to take the band of an open foe in frank greeting, but he scorned to touch the flesh of those who were known as "copperheads," terming them "sneaks and bppocrites unworthy the recognition of brave men." ' The Tory Hessian Telegraph should not have ventured to put forth this deliberate lie at a time when there are scores of Chambersburg gentlemen in Harrisburg. "The late Postmaster at Chain beflburg"—Mr. Jahn Liggett—is dead, and has been buried about six months. 'He died of disease contracted while he was serving under the flag of the United States, with a musket on his shoulder and a knapsack on his back; whilst that cowardly Hessian liar and scoundrel, the Postmaster at Harrisburg, and publisher of the Tory Telegraph, was staying lit home, growing rich on government pieltings and hugging his money-bags closer than his Bible. It is evident that the Hessian bee still got a big mare on and is afraid that Jenkins will soon be here. He wants to worm into the good graces of Jenkins by praising him for despising "copper heads." The Hessian and Jenkins ought to be good friends, as the Abolitionists and Secessionists are working together to destroy the Union. RATNER CooL.—The idea of the "Telegraph" reading the N. Y. Herald out of all loyal com pany and out of all Christian society is re frigerating. Consider for a moment the fact that there is now in Camp Curtin a full company known • as the "New York Herald Guards"—company E, N. Y. 4th Artillery—which was officered and re cruited exclusively from the employees of that newspaper establishment, and which stands ready to protect whatever remnant of property Mr. Bergner may leave behind in case of a rebel attack : consider these facts, and then tell us if you think it lies in the mouth of the Flying Dutch man to call down the lightnings of heaven upon the old Scotch editor just at this particular time? Couldn't Hesse Darmstadt's favorite son take the "Herald's" little joke, without working himself into a fit of the vapors, and cursing it with all the curses contained in the "Index Expargatoriana P qnotha? Has the Deacon done half as well ? Were our nature poisoned with the infer.. nal Jacobinical virus which fills his every vein, we would counsel these " Herald " men to revenge themselves upon him, just as he besought the mob to destroy us on some pitiful pretext on more than one occasion; but all we can advise company E to de le, to Ult.() the buzzing bottle-fly up in their fingers, and say to him, in the language of Uncle Toby : " Go, poor devil, go ! there's room enough in the world fur us and thee !" ARRESTED FOR TREASON.---One J. K. Martin, a horse doctor and a horse farrier, was arrested yes terday morning, for uttering treasonable language. It seems that the Doctor was at market in the morning, and there became engaged in a somewhat heated conversation with others present, in the course of which he became very denunciatory of the government, saying among other things that ne "would rather see the rebels in the city than Old Abe." He also gave it as his opinion that Mr: Lincoln was a condemned male offspring of a fe- Sale canine. Whereupon a by-stander made in formation to Provost Marshal Clement, who caused the worthy sympathizer to be arrested by the pro vost guard. When brought before the Marsha', hi denied having used the language attributed to him, admitting, however, that in the heat of con troversy he may have been betrayed into saying some things which in calmer moments his judg ment would not approve. Bur as is his cherishing a treasonable spirit, he disavowed it entirely. 'Pt e Marshal then administered the oath of allegiance to him, and released him frqm custody. ANOTHER HEGIRA.—The whole country this aide of Chambersburg seemed to be on the move yes terday. The valley was filled with fugitives of all classes, conditions, ages, sexes and colors, fleeing before the advancing rebs like buffalo before a prairie fire. The scenes of a week ago were re• enacted. Negroen on foot and in wagons, carrying with them their only stock and store; farmers with their horses, household goods and: families; sorrowful men, hastening away from fields whiten ing for the sickle and meadows waiting for the scythe; all these came crowding down the valley in dusty caravans, pressing over the bridge and through our town into the peaceful country be yond. God send them rest, and grant that they may seat return to peaceful homes, not torn by the spoiler or blasted with the breath of war. LATEST FROM CAIRO:-. WO will endeaver to keep our readers well supplied with the latest and most reliable news. Since our last report, the following special tell• lie-gram, dispatched to a western paper over the Rat Tail Line, has been received : CAIRO, IS —The Squingltdifigle has just arrived from below. General Grant is still in front of Vicksburg, on the back of it, with Pemberton and Joe Johnson in his rear on both sides of his right and left flank, with the enemy in front and the rebels in the adjacent vicinity. Unless the city is taken soon, it will not be captured for quite a while. The health of the troops is improvint.— General Grant is confident he will take the place, unless he fails to do so. A TABERNACLE TENT.—The United States Christian Commission has forwarded to this de partment a very large tent, to be used a a place of divine worship by the soldiers. It has been pitched near the centre of Camp Curtin, and is eonspicuons from all parts of the camp. Rev. E. M. Long has stiperiutondenoe of this tabernacle tent. Services are now held there regularly at 730 a. on., 3.30 p. m. and 7.30 p. tn. The meet ing are said to be largely attended, and are of a united character, all denominations joining in the observances. Rev. Messrs. Parvin and Parker, of Philadelphia, Reed, of Parkeeburg, and Hay and Jackson, of this place, have already preached or taken part in the exercises. We understand that the proposition to erect this tabernacle here was recommended by Gen. Couch and Surgeon General King, and, if a necessity should arise, it will be used for hospital purposes Moroni/at . —The following touching lines, oommemoratve of the untimely decease and mourn ful end of two belligerent insects, are attributed to Squibobson, the wandering pastoral poet, who guides his fleet Pegasus along the surf-beaten tow-path, attached to the bounding bark "C. K-ct lambus :" The humming bird and bumble bee One summer's day got on a spree ; They guzzled together on 11 )ral licker Till they got sick, and sicker, and sicker. The burl pecked at the boult)le's thighs, The humble whacked her in the eyes; And then they fit, and fit, and fit, Until they couldn't get up and git. And tben there came a serpient, Who observed their ammunition spent; " Dear friends," said he. as he wildly laughed, "Belligerent insects, onme out of the draft !" GOOD ADVlCE'—Always sit next the carver, if you can, at dinner. Ask no woman her age. Be civil to all rich uncles and aunts. Don'tjeke with a policeman. Take your oldest hat to an evening party. Never contradict a man who stutters.— Pull down the blind before you put on your wig. If you can't get clothes and education too, get the clothes. Rime early young man—before yeti M t senty-five, possible. Above all take a news. paper, advertise, buy your umbrellas, parasols, canes, Lc., at the store of M. H. Lee, 69 Market street, and the probabilities are that you will live omfortably and die happy. NKTM - SER OF TROOPS FROM PRILADELPHIA.-Th aggregate number of men mustered in at Phila delphia "for the emergency," is one thousat d one hundred and seventy-nine. A much greater number turned out and came to Harrisburg for the defence of the State, but declined to be mustered into the service of the general govern ment. They therefore returned home. The Gray Reserves, who were still here yesterday, had not up to that time ooneloded co stand the muster, and at last accounts were still cogitating upon the sub ject. They paid their own transportation from Philadelphia, disitursing over two thousand dollar g for this purpose.
