A COMPANY mr.Fuattact EMPLOYEZS .-At one

men being out on drill, ready to respond to a call
for State defence. They passed down Market

strong and muscular, and eager to do their duty
toward the State and country. They have proba

two miles southeast of this city, erected by Dupont
for the accommodation of his customere in this

MEETING OF CITIZENS.-At eleven o'clock yes
terday morning a meeting of our citizens was called
by the ringing of the Court House bell, the object
of which was to stir up the people to more active
preparations for the defence of our State from
threatened invasion and ravage.
Gen. Simon Cameron was, on motion of William
T. Bishop, called to thechair, and Rev. Mr. Jack
son and Joshua Wiestling, Esq., were appointed
Secretaries.
Gen. Cameron explained the object of the meet
ing, and urged the necessity of immediate action.
Committees were appointed to wait upon Gov.
Curtin, Gen. Conch and Mayor Roumfort, to re
quest their attendance at the meeting.
Gen. Cameron then look the floor, and, in sub
stance, said that this valley was absolutely unde
fended ; that while be was a member of the admin
istration, he had placed troops at Chambershurg,
at York, Hagerstown ) and other pante, to protect
the valley; that there were now at Washington
enough idle soldiers to whip all Lee's army; and .
that, whilst Pennsylvania bad contributed 150,000
men in defence of the Union, one-half of whom
were now rotting upon the soil of rebeldom, the
administration bad not now one regiment to offer
for the defence of the Capitol of Pennsylvania.
He wanted to know of Gee. Conch what train
bands he bad under his command to head the
columns of our raw -militia, now called upon to
defend the Capital of the State ?
General Couch replied that he could give no in
formation as to the troops he might have under
his immediate control, as the information might
inure to the profit of some spy at the meeting.
General Cameron then proceeded at some length
with his remarks, in the same strain us above, be
ing not at all complimentary to the administra
tion.
Oa motion, it was resolved that one hundred
scouts be sent op the valley.
Colonel P. K. Boas then offered the following re
solution, which was unanimously adopted :
Resolved, That we, individually and collectively,
pledge the last dollar and the last man in defence
of the State in its present emergency.
The Governor was then introduced to the meet
ing, and gave them such information as he pos
sessed in reference to the threatened rebel raid,
and urged the necessity of immediate defensive
measures. The Governor said that there need he
no fear of raising any amount of money needed, as
he had just received a dispatch from the banks of
Philadelphia placing at his command one million
of dollars for defence of the State; •
Gen. Couch was next introduced. He urged
every man to go to work immediately to assist in
preparing fortifications, duo., and ha.had no doubt
that the rebels would In driven back.
Rolls were tendered, pledging the citizens to
turn out in defence of the State Capital, which
were numerously signed.
A committee was then appointed to carry thess4
objects into effect. Adjourned.
The above committee met at 4 o'clock, r. in., at
the Court House, their meeting being largely at
tended by the citizens. After a few appropriate
remarks, Mayor Roumfort, chairman of the com
mittee, appealed to all who were willing to engage
in building defences for the protection of the city
to draw up in Hue la front of the Court Home=
The appeal was largely responded to, and a strong
force, bearing picks and spades, soon after cros
sed the bridge to the heights opposite.
Evgging Magma—Another meeting con
vened at 7f o'clock, in the Court room, and was
addressed by Oen, Simon Cameron. Gen. Cam
eron, in the course of a stirring speech, said that,
while he had great confidence in the efficiency and
ability of the present commander of this depart
ment, he thought it would be well if the authori
ties would place the militia of this State under
command of such men as Gen. M'Ctdllau and Gen.
Franklin, in whose leadership the people bad every
confidence.
If this suggestion be acted upon by the autheti
ties, and Gen. M'Clellan be requested to take com
mand of the militirof Pennsylvania, it is believed
that, as a native of the State, he will respond at
once. With the unlimited confidence which the
people have in his great military genius, under his
organialtion and leadership the militia of the State
would be invincible.
THE FEELING YESTERDAY.—The feeling which
prevailed in town yesterday was more calm and
business like than it has been heretofore under like
eissurnataness_ There was stir and bustle enough,
but no unbecoming panic or confusion. The lead
ing men were busily at work in preparing for ; the
worst emergency, and the various officers who have
heretofore had command in the field were actively
engaged in rallying their old commands to the de
fence of onr endangered Commonwealth.' Of
course, all sorts of absurd rumors ; were flying,
gaining strength as they peat, and that spirit of
extravagant exaggeration, so inseparable from
such a state of affairs as that in *hi& we now Mild
ourselves, obtained a strong-lodgment lathe minds
of the masses. Ent, in the main, the conifuct of
the people was etilm•and determined. This 'is as
it should be. There is no strength, bat positive
weakness, in frenzy , and flurry.
The number of those offering , to go l was quite as
large as could have been expectedoind speaks well
for the spirit and patriotism of the coturnunity.—
There is little doubt, that tho rush to arms would
be ettil more general, if not universal, had the trail
fer men come directly from the State authorities,
instead of the general government:a
PEEPARa FOR ran Cinous.—Nixon's celebrated
circus, from the Cremorne Gardens, New York, is
announced to exhibit in town on Friday and Sat
urday, July 3d and 4th. We have the best author
ity for saying that this circus is a considerable
distance in advance of all others in the country:
They have exhibited during the prosent season in
Baltimore, Philadelphia and ether eitioa with
marked success. The very best names are an
nounced on their bills. The renowned equestrian,
Eaton Stone, the celebrated Syro-Arabic troupe of
male and female jugglers, contortionists and acro
bats, and a host of tumblers, equestriennes and
clowns, will take part in the performances. The
clowns are said to be gentlemen, and the public
are assured that the taste of the refined ehalluo,
be offended, nor the expectations of the curious
disappointed.

Fran. INSTALMENT. —SeveraI delegates for Wed
nesday's Convention arrived in town yesterday
afternoon and evening. The balance will arrive
to-day. The indications are that, notwithstanding
the unsettled and threatening aspect of affairs in
and around the State Capital, the unterrified De
mocracy will be out in full force, and that a demon
stration will be bad far exceeding that of any
former occasion of the kind. In a few hours our
hotels and streets will overflow with the tide of
life that is new setting in from all parts of the old
Commonwealth. These men come upon no holi
day excursion, to junket and revel on a - reckless
