AGRICULTURE. TIMELY RMS.—When the fruit of- your Strawberry beds is swelling, they should be plentifully watered in the absence of rain. It has a marked effect upon the perfectness and size of the berry. Rub off all the sprouts upon the stocks which you have set with grafts this spring. It will help to push along the growth of the scion.— Not unfrequently grafts, after they have start ed, die for want of sap to sustain them from the parent stem. The trees transplanted this spring should now be mulched. For this purpose grass is as good as anything. Don't put around the tree too much at a time andrepeat the mulch when it gets dry and thin. Removing the mulch once or twice during the summer and stir up the ground well; then replace it. It will save many a tree, if the season should be hot and dry, which we think it will be. Your Raspberry and Blackberry beds should also be well mulched. Any quantity of dry stuff about a place, especially leaves, is excel lent. An application of the contents of a hot -4(4 is very beneficial. A lbw radish seed planted around your cante loupe hills will protect the vines against the striped bug. This dangerous enemy of the melon prefers the radish to the melon leaves; and thus, while feeding on the radish, the other gets the start of it and pushes on out of reach of danger, as the leaf of the melon is attacked only when very young and tender. When your Hower plants get from an inch and a half to two inehes high, they can be thinned out and transplanted. It should be done after a rain, or the ground from which they are taken and whither they are put should be thronghly moistened. Radishes always do better when planted in new ground, or at least ground where they have not heretofore been. Old gardens are the worst places in the world for radishes. Yon will rarely obtain any sound ones. Tomatoes, Egg and Cabbage plants, after be ing set out, generally become soibewhat wilted in. their leaves, and lose some of them from the effects of the sun, before theys become estab lished. This can be prevented by setting over the plant, say from 8 or 9 to 4 or 5 o'clock in the day, bozos in the shape of cones about foarte.-n inches in height, open at the top.— They amo protect the plantiragainet, frost. By the use of these boxes a week is gained in time, and sometimes the pleats saved from severe ar fatal injury. The boxes will last twelve or fifteen years. Sometimes it will require a forked stick to hold them in their places. A grapevine can be laid down its whole length, and if carefully, done will throw out a sprout from each joint. It is as fol lows ‘• Take a rind of pork about three inches square, and tie it firmly over the end of a smooth straight wick, with the flesh side out. This forme a kind of ewab that may be forced down the animal's throat without. injury. At least: it has always proved so with me. But a preventive in better than 4 cure.— Cattle may be prevented from being choked when fed on potatoes, apples or anything of the kind, by simply tying their heads down to the stanchion no they cannot raise it upon a level with their body. This pevests anything from accidentally slipping down their throat, which is the eAtse of their getting choked: not by a•tempting to swallow that which is too large. Cattle when treated as above descibed, will eat just as well, and without the least danger of getting clicked.
