men were engaged yesterday in removing the

PARDONED —The governor bee pardoned John
Lutz, of Allegheny county, who was convicted of
the murder of a man named Richard O'Leary some
yearn ago, was sentenced to be executed and was
afterwards indefinitely reprieved by Gov. Pollock.
Mr. James Oslow left for Pittsburg day before
yesterday in charge of the welcome document.—
There are said to be many mitigating circum
stances connected with this case.
Pinsosar--Brigadier General B. B. Tyler and
Colonel James A. Beaver, of the 148th P. V., are
at present in this city, stopping at the Buehler
House. Gen. Tyler has recently bad command of
a brigade of Pennsylvania nine months' Gin, and
is here for the purpose of seeming anew command
from the same material. Colonel Beaver was se
riously wounded at the last Fredericksburg battle,
but hopes to join his regiment in a few weeks.
LANDLORDS AND T6Awrs.=An act of the Leg
islature is now in the hands of the Governor, and
awaiting his signature, which gives to justices of
the peace power to order the immediate removal of
lessees or tenants who have neglected or refused
to leave premises after having received three
months' notice to quit. Under the old law it has
been necessary to obtain a sheriff's jury, but this

A HARRISBURG LADY ScreENADED—Mrs. RUM
Bellman, of this city, who is at present on a visit
to Philadelphia, was serenaded in that city on
Wednesday evening at her lodgings, No. 324,
North Twelfth street, by the members of Colonel
W. B. Thompson's-Twentieth regiment. This lady
was prominent among those of this city who paid
such kind attentions to the wounded men of the
Twentieth regiment, who were injured at the time
of the sad accident on the Cumberland Valley rail
road in September last.. A compliment of such a
a character is not of frequent occurrence, but in
this instance it was well deserved.
Bourn) Fon Drxm.—A squad of rebel prisoners,
nineteen in number, who have been in confinement
for about ten menthe on Johnson's Island, near
Sandusky, Ohio, arrived in this city ycet-erday
morning in charge of Captain Bradley, and left in
the afternoon train for Fortress'Monroe. They
appeared intelligent, gentlemanly and cleanly,
and seemed gratified at the prospect of soon see
ing and mingling with their kith and kin in rebel
dom. Among them was one Velenel Moorhead,
a near relative of the skedaddled Kentucky Gov
ernor of that name. They were captured in some
of the battles in the Western Department. By
some singular roundabout arrangement, theta
Western prisoners must be transported across
almest the entire breadth of the continent, at a
large outlay of time and money, in order that their
exchange may be effected.
A ILANDSO.ME COMPLIMENT TO Gee. TYLER.-01/
Thursday evening a banquet was given at the .Jones
House, by the officers of the 126th and 134th regi
ments, (now in Camp Curtin,) in honor of General
E. B. Tyler, commanding First Brigade, Fifth
Army Caps. Gen. T. had arrived at the Bueh
ler House on the afternoon of that day, and the
members of these regiments, who had followed hi,
leadership in battle and admired hie bravery and
efficiency, improved the opportunity presented to
testify their appreciation and love for their former
comagender. The entertainment was elegant and
profuse. The General's health was toasted, and
speeches were rnade by Lieut. Col. Rowe, Adjutant
Stewart, Col. O'Brien, Surgeon Nugent, \Major
Bromism, Lienta. M'Cauley,Walsh and Pott, Wm.
.1. Cook, Esq., M. S. Quay, Esq., and others. The
entertainment closed at a late hour, and was cred
itable alike to those who gage it and to the boat
under whose auspices it was prepared. It is the
wish of Gen. Tyler to again command a brigade
of Pennsylvanians. At present he proceeds to
ids resilience in Ohio, on a short leave of absence.
THE Ui,WERSLL How•L.—The cry for the sprink
ler is prolonged and continuous. All creatures in
the city, rational or irrational, have caught up the
shriek, and `swelled the outcry into one prolonged
howl. Can't somebody do something for us ? The
dust lies shoe-mouth deep in the streets, fine as
Hour and liquid like water, and the rolling wheels
and plunging hoofs whirl it aloft allday long. In
the afternoon there is a mellow light like that of
Indian summer, and towards the dose of day a
darkness begins to obscure the town, and the de
clining sun goes into partial eclipse behind the
dust-cloud. The air and earth seem to have com
mingled, and the day ends with an atmosphere
overhanging us as murky as that through which
Milton fables the damned to have fallen through
hopeless ages. It is a darkness which, like that
of Egypt, may be felt—felt in grinding particles
between the teeth, and in suffocating inhalations
in nostrils, throat and lungs. 0 for St. George
N 0.2, to mount the sprinkler and lay this dragon
of dust! Whore are the city authorities and the
councils? Have they forsaken us in the time of
need'? Have they any public spirit or enterprise
left? Cart they speak the word and call forth
the little patent thunder storm? "Most potent,
grave and reverend seignors," hear us for our
causal In the DEMO of the people, whose united
voice we faintly eobo, we implore you to "get up
and dust."
P. 6,—We have information that a reliable man
proposes to buy and run the sprinkling machine,
provided he is suitably compensated. He says
that many of those doing business in our principal
streets, and who are more directly interested than
any others, have offered him weekly subscriptions
so very small as to put his project out of the ques
tion. He will call on those interested at an early
day, and it is hoped that a more liberal spirit will
be manifested on the part of those whose interest
it is to sustain the enterprise.
A PLEASANT FRSTAL OCCASION —On Thursday
evening there was a pleasant farewell meeting of
eompany I, NIA regiment P. V., Captain Wilson,
at the Buehler .House. This company was re
cruited in Lycoming county, and is composed of
the very best material. Being about to be mus
tered out of the service, a goodly number of them
met at Buehler's on Thursday evening, to renew
old associations, where they sat down to a tempt
ing and agreeable repast. Col. Allabach presided
at the banquet, attended by his staff and the offi
ears of the company. Toast and anecdote went
round the board, the campaign was lived over
again, and each enjoyed himself to the full. After
brief speeches from the Colonel and the staff and
company officers in reply to the calls of those
present, the meeting broke up at a seasonable
hour. with cheers for the officers, the Governor,
the Flag and the Union.
A Nova% SIGHT.—Any person who had been at
the depot yesterday noon would have enjoyed a
look through the train going west. It contained
four oar loads of "Omish," (a German religious
order,) on their way to attend the yearly meeting
of their sect somewhere in the valley of the Kisba
coquillas. The Omish are a distinct, unique, pe
culiar people, with a dress and address peculiarly
their own. In these days of broadcloth pants,
plug hats and boundless crinoline, it was a quaint
sight to see so many men in brown homespun,
with shad-bellied coats and broad-brimmed bats,
and women with long, old-fashioned bonnets,
(formed by depressing the sides of a very broad
brimmed hat by a band passed over the top of the
head and under the chin,) and "nary hoop stall, at
all." The women were all uncommonly beautiful
and wholesome looking, and would vie in attract
