PATENTED FEBRUARY 14th, 1860..
SALESROOM, 510 BROADWAY. >
142MV%7"- YOWLS..
This Machine is constructed on an entirely new prin.
ciple of mechanism, possessing many rare and valuable
i sprovements, having been examined by the most pro
f mnd experts, and pronounced to be SIMPLICITY and
PsEPEOTION COMBINED.
Tao following are the- principal objections urged
against Sewing 'Machines :-
1.-41xcessive labor to the 4.—lncapacity to sew every
operator.
: desorption of material.
2.—Liability to get out of 6.—Disagreeable no is e
order. • while in operation.
—Expense, trouble and
loss of time in repairing
The Empire Sew . ing Machine is Exempt from
• 011 these Objections.
It has a straleht-needle perpendicular action, makes
the LOOK or SHUTTLE STITCH, which will neither
RIP nor RAVEL, and is alike on both sides; performs
0000 Sewing on every description of material, from
Leather to the finest Nansook Muslin, with cotton, linen
or silk thread, from the coarsest to the finest number.
Having neither CAM nor 0041 WHEEL, and the least
possible friction, it runs as smooth as glos s, and is
EMPHATICALLY A NOISELESS MACHINE!
It requires FIFTY PER CENT. less power to drive it
ban any other Machine in market. A girl of twelve
pears of age can work it steadily, without fatigue or !n

HOOFLAND'S GERMAN BITTERS
PREPARSD ONLY BY DR. C. N. JACKSON,
N 0.631 ARCH STREET, PHILADELPHIA,
Is the very best Tonic and Nervine extant, and will give
relief where all other remedies fall. This is not a mere
.assertion, but has been provedoverand over againby the
clam of persons we arenow addressing, as the certificates
hereto appended will show. So well are the virtues cf
the Bitters known, that it is freely prescribed by the
leading physicians of Philadelphia and vicinity. It is
entirely vegetable, and free from akosolie stimitlatet and
all injurious ingredients. Persons - advanced in life rand
feeling the hand of time weighing heavily upon them,
will find in these Bitterran elixir that will restore, in a
measure, the energy and ardor of more yonthfhl days,
build np their shrunken forms, and give health and bap
llamas to their remaining years.
Weak and delicate children are made strong by using
the Bitters. In fact, it is a family medicine, and may
be profitably administered to a child of three months,
the most delicate female, or a man of ninety.
Shake the bottle before using.
Price 75 cents per bottle. For sale by druggists and
ptcrekeepers generally throughout the country.,

and for encouragement to try them when suffering from
great and long continued debility. The use of three
bottles of these Bitters, at the beginning of the present
year, was followed by evident relief and restoration to a
degree of bodily and mental vigor which I had net felt
for six months before, and had almost deardrod of re
