THE CITY DEMOCRATIC EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE will meet this evening, Mardi 16th, at 74 o'clock, at the Second Ward House, corner of Second and Chestnut streets. LEVI WOLFINGER, Sec'y. Wa understand that the meeting of the Second Ward Union League on Saturday night was atten ded by ten—four office holders, four expectants and two contractors. PAROLLED PRISONSILS.—For several days past there has passed through this city, en route for the West, quite a number of parolled prisoners for Gen. Roseerans' army. Daring their stay in this city they were entertained at the Soldiers' Rest, and went on their way to the West rejoicing.— They consisted of troops that were captured at the late battle. Oua Downs= MARKET.—On Saturday morning last the prices in our domestic market wore very steep. The article of butter, which enters consid erably into the consumption of every private fam ily, brought the enormous price of thirty cents per pound. Other artiola of domestic consumption were equally high isrprioe, and the complaint in regard to the rise was very general and the subject of much complaint. Norm Baines CANAL.—We learn from the Dan ville papers that the water will be let into the north Branch canal on the 25th of the present month. The repairs that are now in progression on the Pennsylvania canal will prevent the water being let in until about the commencement of the coming month. From present indications the busi ness of the several canals of this Commonwealth will be more prosperous the coming season that it Lae been for several years put. No Nomnismon.—The Abolition city convention on Saturday night did not nominate a candidate for Mayor, deciding to await the result of the Democratic elections. That made aaw netore them, and whatever may be their action in view of it, we confidently predict that the can didate selected by the wooly heads in opposi tion to Gen. A. L. Roumfort will be overwhelm ingly defeated on Friday next. The lion-hearted Democracy of the Capital City are fully aroused, as was conclusively demonstrated on Saturday night, and will sweep down all opposition: Perms Counr.—Several ,offenders were ar raigned yesterday morning. Two cavalry men; who undertook to storm a lager beer shop on Wal nut street, were fined one dellar each for their fun. A small boy, charged with robbing the till of a beer shop to the amount of three or four dol lars, was remanded to the leck-up for a further hearing. A negro named John Lee was up en a charge of stealing a watch and seven dollars from one of Tom Chester's recruits. The Mayor decided to hold him natal Chester's A ntrim from Boston, when the case will be fully heard. }FAREWELL Smutons.—The Methodist ministers connected with the Philadelphia conference, who have labored in this eity for two years past, preached farewell sermons to their respeetiVe con gregations yesterday and last evening, in view of leaving for conference, which meets at West Ches ter during the present week. We presume the new pastors for the coming year will not enter upon their duties before next Sunday week. Harrisburg is one of the moat important points within the bounds of the conference, and sound judgment and discrimination should be exercised by the appoint ing power in the selection of men to minister in holy things to our people for the next year.. Faso Itxchtrivs.—On Saturday morning Ser geant Thomas M. Chester, the master spirit of the negro war element in our midst, left here with six or eight stalwart "American citizens of African descent," recruited for a Massachusetts regiment. Be left a sable sergeant in charge of the recruiting station during his absence, who has succeeded in enlisting more negroes for the same regiment, and they will also be sent forward in the course of a few days. Whether this movement will have a beneficial effect upon white soldiers in service, or encourage white men at home to enter it, remains to be seen. Inasmuch as the war seems to be now waged for the exclusive benefit of negroes, it is no more than right that they should fight it oat. Tan LATE LEGISLATIVE EXCURSION.—The late ex4mrsion of the Pennsylvania Legislature to the iron ore mines of Lebanon county was decidedly a pleasant and interesting trip. The party spent three hours at the ore banks and furnaces of the proprietors. The vast bed of valuable ore is found in three hills, the largest of which is three hundred and fifty feet high, and Which has supplied mate rial for the manufacture of arms in three wars, vis : in the Revolution; in 1812, and in the pre sentcontest. The ore is smelted in three furnaces, and veins of copper are scattered through the hills, the metal being sent to Baltimore to be refined. The lien OE6 rests upon trap -rook, and appears to have been ejected by volcanic action, the whole surface covered being not more than seventy or eighty acres. Upon returning from the ore banks, the members were entertained at Lebanon, and speeches were made by Judge Shannon, of Alle gheny, Judge gains, of Fayette, and others. A vote of thanks was returned to the Philadelphia and Reading and North Lebanon railroads, and Hon. Mr. Coleman, member of the House, for eri ginatinithe excursion. The party then returned to ibis eity in a special train under the superin tendence of William H. Bblekland, of the Reading I itcsapany. - - . DEMOCRATIC CITY NOMINATIONS.—The Demo cratic citizens of Harrisburg met in their various wards on Saturday evening last, under a call of the City Executive Committee, for the purpose of nomi nating candidates to be supported by the party at the municipal ele i ction to be hold on Friday next. The turn-out was much larger than has formerly characterized primary meetings of this kind in our city, and although the contest for the Mayoralty nomination, and for Council in some of the wards, was quite spirited, the best feeling prevailed and the occasion passed off in a manner highly credi table to all who participated. The only two can didates for Mayor were Gan. A. L. Roumfort, and Hon. Wm. H. Kepner, the present incumbent, the former carrying every ward in the city, while his opponent polled a very respectable vote. It affords us great pleasure to announce that Mayor Kepner, having waged an honorable contest, bears himself philosophically under defeat, and bows respectfully and submissively to the will of ftie, majority, fairly expressed, as it is the duty of all good Democrats to do tinder similar eircumstanies. We subjoin the result in the various wards as accurately as it could be ascertained at a late hour on Saturday night in the midst of the confusion incident to such occasions. If there be any errors of omission or commission, one friends will please make the proper corrections: First Ward.—Mayor-.--A. L. Roumfort; Council —Daniel. COPPERHEADS.-Our political opponents have taken upon themselves the work of blackguard ing without stint the Democracy, and for that purpose have resorted to calling them very opprobrious names. That of copperhead seems to be most in fu".. -..mnisst them, and quite a goodly number of Democrats in this on,- ‘--- " 4 Accepted the appel lation without making much fuss nom.. nn Saturday last this city was fairly full of "copper heads," and they manifested much interest in the selection of candidates for the ensuing city elec tion. It must be a source of considerable annoy ance to the Abolitionists of this city that the pre. dominating element here belongs to the party which has thus been dubbed "copperhead." With out doubt they will carry the ensuing election in this city, which will be a withering rebuke to those here who think that all the patriotism is constitue ted in the Abolition party. WHO ARE ENTITLED TO BOUNTY.—The bounty law recently passed by Congress, giving $lOO to eaob soldier only for disability, applies, it is stated, only to those discharged on account of wounds, and not on account of sickness. A cor respondent, writing from Washington, says the bounty given by the net of March 3d, 1863, is re stricted to such soldiers as have been, or may hereafter be, discharged from the army by reason of wounds received in battle. It is understood that no appropriation was made for it. Second Auditor French, of the Treasury, is preparing a circular of instructions and forms, which will em brace this class of cases, which will be ready for distribution in the course of a few days. This is not the general understanding of the law, and the forthcoming circular will be looked for with inter est, as an intelligent explanation of what the law is.
