TATERESTING STATE OP APPAIRIL—Snat about
this time everybody whose lousiness calls them
upon the street are sorely perplexed how to get
through the mad. Over head we have bad beau..
tifal weather for thepast few 'days, but under foot
it has been the most disagreeable within the re.
iolleetiod of "the oldest inhabitant." This state
of affairs is'a source of intnletahle annoyance to
the ladies. Trailing skirts are quite a rarity.—
For such indulgence dry goods are slightly too
expensive. When the commonest calico costs
twenty-eight cents per yard, and silks are 'high
almost in proportion, even fashion is unheeded,
and ladies gather their dresses in bands of rubber
that, under their long cloaks, raise theta out of
sight. As every lady wears a Balmoral skirt and
the bottom of this alone is 'laq:de, the promenade
presents a Bayadere aert of aspect, altogether pie
tnresque and pleasing. Thus far, in every twelve
hours Ante March Ist, we have had a different
style of weather. The weather clerk has rung all
the changes.
Ts ELECTION.--The npproanhFng city
election, which takes plate on The 20th of the pre
sent month, is now ougaglitg the attention of the
citizens of this city. PartyMOß are . being tightly
drawn, and the canted/a one of considerable in-
West. The Demounttio party is thoroughly or
ganized in every fierd in the city, and we have
not the slishtest 'dottbt that Ali result will prove
an overwhelming majority to that party. The
Abolition eretnent is itsingitiverY subterfuge to de
feat the Democracy, but their bogus Union Leagues
will atrail them nothing. The Democracy are
bound to win, and we predict that the voice of
genuine loyal and constitutional men of this city
at the coming municipal electi?n will put a quietus
on the traitorous crew who ire now so busily at
work distracting the country and working for its
ruin.
AN Iwrorasuallas NuisAieca.—We have repeat
edly spoken of the nuisance of loafers at the post
office in this city. A lady correspondent has again
called etc attention to the snbjeet, and for the last
time we refer the matter to the consideration of
the 'chief of police. Every evening a crowd of
loafers congregate in and around the post dace,
staring in the face and insulting every female
whose business calls her there. We don't wish to
refer to this matter again, and sincerely hope the
nuisance will be immediately and permanently
abated:
