THE 'MONEY M.ißKET.—There never was in the
history of the country such an abundance of money
as at the present time; it is literally overflowing,
and yet all business is paralyzed ; all public confi
dence destroyed.
N. W. R. R.—We hear it stated that work will
be commenced on the old North Western Railroad,
now West Pennsylvania Railroad, on the first day
of May neat. This will be gratifying intelligence
to all who feel an interest in that improvement.
REMOVAL.-It will be seen by an advertisement
in another column that B. J. Harris has removed
his tin and sheet iron ware manufactory to N 0.112
Market street, where he will be pleased to see all
his old customers and the public generally.
THE FAIR.—The upper rooms of the - Exchange
are crowded nightly. If you are in want of fun,
go and see the party, and invest a few dimes in
the purchase of the gewgaws which are promiscu
ously circulated, in most magnificent splendor and
gorgeous array on every table in the arena.
Prrerma Com.—This vice has greatly inereftsed
in our city within the last few years. Boys of high
and low degree indulge in the sport, and not a Sun
day passes but what these juveniles can be found
on the outskirts of the town, engaged in the in
teresting game of "toss."
Cocosnur Punnisci.—Grate one cocoanut and
stew slowly in one quart of milk; pour it upon
half a loaf of baker's bread; when cold, add one
pound of sugar, and half a pound of butter beaten
to a cream. Stir them well together—then add
six eggs beaten light, and then send it to this
office.
RATHER HAnn.—A young man who has been
working for some time in Honesdale, arrived in
the city on Wednesday night, and took lodging in
the look-up. He was crippled, short of funds, and
was own his way to Philadelphia, where his friends
reside. Mayor Kepner kindly furnished him with
the necessary material, and the young man started
on his way to the city of Brotherly Love.
OPENING OF THE. OANALO.—The navigation is now
open on the Western Division of the Main Line of
the Pennsylvania Canal. The water is now being
let in on the Eastern Division, and the canal will
be in operation by the 25th inst., when the whole
line of canals along the Susquehanna, from _Havre
de Grace to Wilkesbarre, will be open. The im
portant repairs on the Juniata Canals will prevent
their opening until near the Ist of April.
Is a recent case before the Superior Court, in
Worcester, Judge Lord presiding, in which certain
parties, employees of the Norwich and Worcester
Railroad Company, sued that company for dama
ges for injuries sustained by a collision on the
road, the Court ruled that one person in the em
ploy of the defendants could not maintain an ac
tion for injuries received through the want of care
of other persons also in their employ, if the other
persons were proper and suitable men for the rail
road company to employ. The plaintiffs thereupon
became non-suits.
A WANDERING himsrant.—One of the gayest
larks that has made application for lodging, pre
sented himself on Wednesday night. Callender,
with his usual big-heartedness and the keys, ad
mitted him. In the morning he turned out to be a
regular Tim Baggs—a minstrel, a performer on
the Enke, and a man having music in his soul. He
was hard up for small change, had no place to go,
and concluded he would "burn" in the lock-up.—
When the Mayer appeared, our musical friend was
brought forth, who went through several operatic
airs, which so delighted the audience that the
Mayor discharged him.
LLOYD'S MINSTRELS.—This popular band of Ethi
opian delineators will be here again on Monday
and Tuesday, March 25th and 26th. The troupe
have been on a tour to the West and are drawing
crowded houses at Pittsburg, where they are per
forming at present. Mr. Wambold, who has been
severely indisposed for some time, and could not
appear with the troupe on their recent visit, has
recovered and is now in fine voice, and our citizens
will receive a rich treat in the way of ballad sine
ing. The troupe are on their way to New Yorks
and will open out at Niblo's Saloon on the first of
April.
This troupe on their last visit drew crowded houses
and gave general satisfaction. Daring their en
tertainments mirth and jollity reigned, and noth
ing like an obscene word or a vulgar joke came
from any of the Company. We predict for them
fall houses on their arrival.
-.Ynox Danpuic.—A correspondent writes :—Mr.
Editor: That fatal disease, scarlet fever, has been
prevailing to an alarming extent, in our midst,
for the past six menthe. It has entered our fami
lies, and made our homes desolate by taking away
one and another of the loved ones of earth. But,
inasmuch as Christ bath said, suffer little children
to come unto me, /to., we know He doeth all things
well Yesterday, one of its victims, Agnes Shif
tier, an interesting girl of fifteen summers, was
committed to the tomb by her friends and relatives.
The children of the Sabbath School, of which she
was a member, followed her in procession, each
bearing a twig of spruce, which they cast into the
grave as a token of love and esteem for one who

THE POLITICAL MILLENICH OF THE TELEGRAPH.
The editor of the Telegraph having, with peculiar
self-complacency, read hie commission and easrup
with arithmetical precision the amount total of the
salary, perquisites, contingent charges and
ings of his recently acquired office, breaks out un
der the following luminous inspiration :
PLACE HllNTERS.—Appointments to office are as
opportune now to the unemployed politicians as are
shad to the appetite of the good liver. The de
pression in business has made as many idlers as a
carcass attracts flies. The appetite is as keen with
the one as with the other; but the former bave a
poor prospect of appeasing it. It is a matter of re
gret that offices cannot be trebled in number, so
that there would be scarcity of employees in me
chanical and mercantile pursuits. There would
then be tic disappointments, nobody in want, and
no struggles at elections. Corruption would dis
appear, and everybody would rejoice that the great
est good, instead of being distributed to the great
est number, was given to all alike.
There is but one slight error in this brilliant
programme of universal office-holding and conse
quent happiness; and that is in the more triplica
tion of the present Government offices in the gift
of the President. If they were increased a thou
sand Cold they could not satiate the myriads of
hungry loafers who are now beseiging "honest Old
Abe" for a spoonful 9f treasury pap, much less
Would there hd any chance for the poor mechanics,
to whom our facetious editor refers with so much
philanthropy.
Meanwhile we would suggest to our embryo
Postmaster the establishment of a branch pest-office
in each ward in this city. This would supply places
for some of bis disappointed competitors, and
would, in a slight degree, realize the ingenious
idea of conferring an office upon every member of
the Republican party, and thereby put a stop to
complaint. Of course, in that ease, the Democrats
would have to pay the taxes—that's all they are
good for.
THE Isrourts.—A Philadelphia paper says : An
interesting meeting of the friends of the Indians
was held at Sansom Street Hall. "Father Bee-.
som" was present, and gave a most impressive ac
count of the outrages which have been committed
upon them. In reference to the treatment of the
Indians, he said they bad been, heretofore, sur
rounded by a set of bloodsuckers, and be gave a
number of instances in which speculators an Gov
ernment officers had swindled the poor Indians of
their money and lands. He asked if it was any
wonder that the poor creatures should burn and
smart under their wrongs ? He gave one instance
where the Government had voted $60,000 for the
support and instruction of the Indians, of which
sum the disbursing agent received $38,000, and the
balance Came back to him in exchange for rum and
trinkets. He said some of these men not only
robbed but murdered the poor Indians. The In
dians feel that the torrent of destruction is steadily
flowing from the eastward to the westward. He
desired this feeling removed—that as we all lived
under the same God, they Should be treated as our
fallow-men; that we should think as much of the
Indian as of the negro !
Tan UPPER END.—The Lykens Journal says : Oa
Friday morning last, a man named Thomas Hand,
an American, working in the Big Run Gap coal
mines, was struck by falling coal, and instantly
killed. The deceased was an admirable workman,
and was much esteemed by all who knew him. Be
leaves a wife and one child in a somewhat desti
tute condition. By the exertions of Win. Bernie
gray, Req., lessee of those mines, a considerable
sum was collected for their support.
On Monday evening a man by the name of John
Shehan, was seriously injured by falling coal in the
mines of the Lykens Valley company.
On Tuesday evening a man named Thomas
Booker, was dangerously injured by being caught
between two coal cars. His condition is reperted
critical.
BEFORE THE MATOR.—The "retreat" was occu
pied on Wednesday night by five volunteers. At
the levee before the Mayor, yesterday morning, the
first iudividual brought forth was a female, who
hailed from Easton, and was on a tramp to Pitts
burg. She was discharged.
The next customer was a young man, who stated
that he had been at work in Baltimore, and was on
his way to York. Being short of funds, he loca
ted in the look-up, and was diseharged by the
Mayor.
The third individual was of German extraction,
and said that he had formerly worked in Carlisle.
Being out of work, and having no place to go,
one of the bystanders thought that he should make
application to the new postmaster for a clerkship.
He was discharged.
THE METHODIST CONFERENCE.—To the frater
nity of Methodist ministers, the next few days
will be a period of much anxiety and suspense.
The Methodist minister, unlike the minister of any
other denomination, has no fixed abiding place.
The Conference shapes hie course, and where he is
to go is unknown to any one until the "appoint.
meats" are announced at the close of the proceed
ings. The minister remains in his charge for two
years, forms friendships and endearing ties. At
the end of two years, the pleasant friendships are
but pleasant memories, and at the bidding of the
Conference he departs to a new field of labor, there
to spend two more years with the same results, to
be again transferred to fresh fields of usefulnes,
until be departs to his rewards, "bearing his sheaves
with him."
INDIGNATION MERTING.—It is reported that some
of our most influential citizens have determined
to call a meeting, and see what can be done in re
lation'to the Post Office. Many of them are im
pressed with the idea that it would be better to
secede, and start a new post office on Independence
or Bailey's island, and apply for a new postmaster
in this region. Here is a chance for some good
man, and an aspirant for office, because Old Abe
promisee to appoint any honest man to office, who
belongs to his party, and says he's sorry that be
made several sad mistakes. The new postmaster
of Harrisburg will have to look out for his chances,
as, from present appearances, we think all money
will be sent through the new post office.
Fiona—The present month thus far. The first
day of March opened boisterously, gradually sub
siding into a more genial mood, proclaiming that
" Spring time has come again."
Subsequently, warm rains washed the face of
earth of every traoe of mow, sending huge vol
umes of water down the mountains' sides, through
the aqueducts, to the great reservoir, the ocean.—
Anon the
"Wavering Rakes begin to flow,"
and now the earth is enveloped in a covering of
"frozen mist," as if winter, loath to yield his su
premacy, holds earth once more in his chilling
embrace.
GREAT Cmns.—London is the largest city in
Europe, and Paris is the moat splendid. But nei
ther London, with its vast wealth and extent, nor
Paris, with all its splendor, possess an establish
ment to compare, in all respects, with the eelebra
ted Brown Stone Clothing Hall of Rockbill es Wil
son, Nos. 603 and 605 Chesnut street, above 'Sixth,
Philadelphia. This great store is not alone re
markable for its splendid exterior, its vast extent,
or its elegant fittings; bat it is equally famous for
the beauty and superior elegance of its peerless
stook of garments for gentlemen and youths.
Tun Cuevas.—During the last week the impor
tation of specie at New York, with the amount en
route from San Francisco, as advised by the Pony
Express, amounts to $4,066,469. This avalanche
of specie adds largely to the vast amount of money
lying idle in the bank vaults waiting for a settle•
ment of the irrepressible conflict, and the conse
quent revival of business.

Two Moan NIGHTS OF THE ClanAT PAR-vro-KA
THEC-A.—Owing to the immense crowds of people
who have not seen this splendid exhibition, at
Brant's City Hall, the proprietor will remain two
days longer; and for each exhibition has made out
a list of splendid presents, which will be given
away after the exhibition is over. Among the
presents for each evening is a Ladies' Splendid
Gold Watch, a Gold Clasp Family Bible, a Silver
Cake Basket, a Silver Goblet, an elegant copy of
Shakspeare's Works, with other elegant books.—
The presents for each evening amount to about
forty in number, valued at $125.00. If we were a
lady we would go to the Pan-tee-na-thee-a these
two evenings, sure, as the proprietor says he will
give these presents away whether there are five
persons or five hundred in the ball. lie says he
gives these presents away to advertise his exhibi
tion, and we think he is doing it very effectually.
The exhibition is certainly the finest thing ever
in Harrisburg, and everybody should see it.—
There is scarcely a scene shown, but that is worth
the price of admission. Go early if you want a
seat.

THE CORDIAL IS ALL WE CLAIM FOR IT
MOTHERS TRY IT ! I
And to you we appeal to detect the illness or decline
not only of your daughters before it be too late, but also
your sons and husbands, for while the former from false
delicacy, often go down to a premature grave, rather
than let their condition be known in time, the latter are
often so mixed up with the excitement of business, that
if it were not for you, they, too, would travel in the same
downward path until it is too late to arrest their fatal
fall. But the mother is always vigilant, and to you we
confidently appeal; for we are sure your never-failing
affecton will unerringly point you to PROF. WOOD'S
R ESTORAT EVE CORDIAL AND BLOOD RENOVATOR
as the remedy which should be always on hand in time
of need.
0. J. WOOD, proprietor, No. 444 Broadway, New
York, and No. 114 Market st., St Louis, Mo., and sold

sist the assault of disease. It is a chemical compound
so skillful'y comtined that white it exhilarates it does
not provoke the lassitude which usually follows excite
ment. A tonic, composed exclusively of vegetable mat
ter, it is absolutely seneficial, and no ill effects can pos
sibly accompany its use It is an infallible and speedy

. Lou( Morning Herald.
PROF. WOOD'S RESTORATIVE GoRDIAL.—It iS recorded
in the Classics that Psyche was once sent to a climate
warmer than the West Indies, to procure a sample of the
beauty of Prosperine in a box. After some delay the
mes senger returned, and as soon as the lid of the box
was removed, out flew all the ills that flesh is heir to.—
Portunatt ly, hope was found in the bottom of the box.
Prof. WOOD'S Restorative Cordial revives the recall c
lion of the story, for it invigorates the blood, aids the
organs of digestion, imparts strength to the nervous sys
tem, and fortifies the citadel of health, so as to bid de
fiance to the assaults of disease. It is a healthy tonic,
composed entirely of vegetable productions, and while
it is exhilarating as pure wine, uo injurious results can
possibly follow its 118-3. It is a desideratum in the medi•
cal world, and those who are afflicted with loss of appe
tite, Dyspepsia, Consumption, Faintness, Giddiness,
Neauralgia, Palpitation of the Heart, &c., will and here
an infallible panacea.—St. Louis Daily Express.
PROF. WOOD'S RESTORATIVE CORDIAL ARD BLOOD REX

A PURE, HEALTIIY Torte, and one free from the dele

weakest stomach, and at the same time allay nervous
and other irritations, and tone up all the organs of which

ID" Before noticing a patent medicine, we have to
be certain that it will prove itself to be all that it is re
commended. And we would say that the Restorative
Cordial and Blood Renovator of Prof. Wood will stand
the test fully, and in fact it is without any doubt the
first article in the market for Purifying the Blood and

Mon:mending its use to all.—New Yorker,
LOOT TO YOURSISLT rN Trarg.—How many, in conse
quence of a false delicacy, suffer from suppressed, pain
fist or obstructed menstruation,, and think because they
are young that bye-and-bye nature will work itself clear
from obstructions, and all come right in the end, little
dreaming that the seeds of death are already germinating
in the system because the vital energies are impaired,
and the entire animal economy deranged, debilitated ;
and yet ' careless of themselves as they are, if a remedy
wee set before them which would restore all the lime.
tions of the system, and re-invigorate the body, they
would take it, and thus be in time to save their lives.—
Parents think of this, and at once give them a bottle of
