TEE AMALGAMATION OF LANGUAGES.—There is a growing
tendency in this age to appropriate the moat expressive
words of other languages, and alter a while to incorporate
them into our own ; thus the word Cephalic, which is
from the Greek, signifying "for the head," is now becom
irr; popularized in c :`nnection with Mr. Spalding's great
Headache remedy, but it will soon be used in a more gen
eral way, and the word Cephali; will become as common
as Electrotype and many others whose distinction as for
eign words has been worn away by common image until
they seem "native a to the manor born."

117 - HE anima is the favorite sign by which nature
makes known any deviation whatever from the natural
state of the braid, and viewed in this light it may he looped
on as a s treguard intended to give notice of disease which
might itherwise escape attention, till too late to be reme
died; and its indications should never be neglected. Head
aches may be classified under twe names., viz : Symptoms
tic and Idiopathic. Symptomatic llewiache is exleedingly
common and is the precursor of a great variety of diseases,
among which are Apoplexy, Gout, Rheumatism and all
febrile diseases. In its nervous form it is sympathetic of
disease of the stomach constituting sick headache, of he
patic disease e,onstitut ng bilious headache, of worms,
constipation ant other disorders of the bowelh, as well is
renal and uterine sffections. Diseases of the heart are very
frequently attended with headaches; Anaemia and plethora
are also affections which frequently) occasion headache.—
Idiopathic Headache is also very common, being usually
distinguished by the name of nervous headache, sometimes
coming on suddenly in a state of apparently round health
and prossratmg at once the mental and physical energies,
and in other lustanaes it comes on slowly, heralded by de
pression of spirits or acerbity of temper. In mostinstan •
ces the pain is in the front of the head, over one op both
eyes, and sometimes provoking vomiting i under this class
may also be named Newriava,
For the treatment of either class of Headache the Ce
phalic Pills hare been found a sure and safe remedy, relie
ving the most acute pains in a few minutes, and by its subtle
power eradicating the diseases of which Headache is- the
unerring index.
BRIDGET' =Risme wants you to sand her a box of Cep
halic Glue, no, a bottle of Prepared Pills—but think
ing that's not just it naither but perhaps ye'll be antler
knowing what it is. Ye see she's nigh dead and gone with
the Sick Headache, and wants some more of that same as
relaived her before.
Druggist —You must mean Spalding's Cephalic Pills.
Brittget.--Och ! sure now and you've sed it, here's the

Constipation or Costiveness.
No one of the 44 m any ills flesh is heir to ,, is so prevalent,
so little understood, and so much neglected as Oodiveness.
Often originating in carelessness or sedentary habits; it it
regarded as a slight disorder of too little consequence to
excite °satiety, while in reality' it is the precursor and
companion of many of the most fatal and dangerous die
eases, and unless early eradicated it will bring the sufferer
to an untimely grave. Among the lighter evils of which
costiveness is the nasal attendant are Headache, Colic,
Rheumatism, Foul Breath, Piles and others of 1 ke nature,
while a long train of fr ghtful diseases such as Malignant
Fevers, Abcesses, Dysentery, Diarrlicea, Dyspepsia, Apo
plexy, Epilepsy, Paralysis, Hysteria, Ilypochondziasie,
Melancholy and Insanity, first indicate their presence in
the system by this alarming symptom. Not unireguently
the diseases named originate in Constipation, but take on
an independent existence unless the cause is eradicated in
an early stage. Prom all these considerations it follows
that the disorder should receive immediate attention when
ever it occurs, and no person should neglect to get a box
of Cephalic Pills on th- first appearance of the complaint,
as their timely use will expel the insidious approaches cf
disease and destroy this dangerous foe to human life.
A Real Blessing.
Physician—Well, Mrs. Jones, how is that headache ?
Mrs Jones— Gone ! Doctor, all gone ! thi pill you sent
cured me in just twenty minutes, and I wish yo. would
send more so that I can have them handy.
Physician.—You can get them at any Druggists. Call
for Cephalic Dille, I find they never fail, and I recommend
them in all cases of Headache •
Mt's. Jones —I shall sen I for a box directly, and sha
tell all my suffering friends, for they are a real blessing.
TWENTY MILLIONS OF DOLLARS Sksan.—Mr. Spalding
has sold two millions of battles of hit celebrated Prepared
Glue and it is estimated that each bottle saves at least ten
dollars worth of broken furniture, thus malong an aggre
gate of twenty millions of dollars reclaimed from to' al loss
by this valuable invention. Having made his Glee a
household word, he now proposes to do the world still
greater service by curing all the aching heals with his
Cephalic Pills, and if they are as good as his sine, Head
aches will soon vanish away like snow in July.
117 - OvER EXOiTEMSNT, ant the mental care and anxiety
incident to the close attention to business or study, are
among the, numerous causes of Nervous Headache. The
disordered state of thin,' aid body incident to this distress
ing complaint I'll a fatal blow to all energy and amtntiou.—
Su lerers by this disorder can always °brain speedy relief
from these distressing attacks by using one of the Cephalic
Pills woenever the symptoms appear. It quiets the over
tasked brain, and soothes the strained and j erring nerves,
and relaxes the tension of the stomach which always ac
companies and aggravates the disordered condition of the
brain.
FACT' WORM& KNOWlNG.—Spalding , a Cephalic Pills are a
certain cure for Bich Headache, Bilious Headache, Nervous
Headenhe, Costivenees acid tie aeral Debility.
GREAT DISCOVERY.—Among the most important of all
the great mAdicsl discoveries of this age may be considered
the as stem of vaccination for protection from Small Pox,
the C-sphslic Pill for relief of Headache, and the use of
Quinine for the prevention of Foram either of which is
a sure specific, whose benefits will be experienced by suf
fering humanity long after their discoverers are forgotten.
DID you ever have the Sick Headache? Do you
remember the throbbing temples, the fevered brow, the
loathing and disgust at the Sight .of food ? How totally
unfit you were for pleasure, conversation or study. One
of the Cephalic Pills would have relieved you from all the
Buffering which you then experienced. For this and other
purposes you should always have a box of them on hand to
use as occasion requires.

THE ONLY DISCOVERY
WORTHY OP ANY CONFIDENCE FOR
RESTORING
THE BALD AND GRAY.
Many, since the great discovery of Prof. Wood, have
attempted not only to imitate his restorative, but pro
fess to have discovered something that would produce
results identical ; but they have all come and gone, be
ing carried away by the wonderful results of Professor
Wood's preparation, and have been forced to leave the
field to its resistless sway. Read the following :
BATH, Maine, April 18, 1859.
PROF. O.T. WOOD & Co .: Gents: — The letter I wrote
you in 185d gpncerning your valuable Hair Restorative,
and which psu have published in this vicinity and else
where, has given rise to numerous enquiries touching
the facts in the case. The enquiries are '
first, is it a
fact of my habitation and name, as stated in the com
munication; second, is it true of all therein contained;
third, does my hair still continue to be in good order and
of natural color? To all I can and do answer invariably
yes. My hair is even better than in any stage of my life
for 40 years past, more soft, thrifty, and better colored;
the same is true of my whiskers, and the only cause why
it is not generally true, is that the substance is washed
off by frequent ablution of the face, when if care were
used by wiping the face in close connection with the
whiskers, the same result will follow as the hair. I
have been in the receipt of a great number of letters from
all parts of New England, asking me if my hair still
continues to be good ; as there is so much trawl in the
manufacture and sale of various compounds as well as
this, it has, no doubt, been basely imitated, and been
used, not only without any good effect, but to absolute
injury. I have not used any of your hestorative of any
account for some months, and yet my hair is as good as
ever, and hundreds have examined it with surprise, as'
• am now 61 years old and not a gray hair in my head or on
i my face ; and to prove this fact, I send you a lock of my
hair t4ken off the past week. I received your favor of
two quart bottles last summer, for which I am very
grateful: I gave it to my friends and thereby induced
them to try it ; many were skeptical until after trial,
and then purchased and used it with universal success.
I will ask as G favor, that you send me a test by which I
can. discover fraud in the Restorative, sold by many, I
fear, without authority from you. A pure article will
insure success, and I believe where good effects do not
follow, the foliose is caused by the impure article, which
curses the inventor of the good. I deem it my duty, as
heretofore, to keep you apprised of the continued effect
on my hair, as I assure all who enquire of me of my un
shaken opinion of its valuable results.
I remain, dear sirs, yours r A. C. RAYMOND.
AARON'SRIIN, Ky., Nov. 30, 1858.
Paco. 0. J. WOOD : Dear Sir :—I would certainly be
doing you a great injustice net to make known to the
world, the wonderful as well as the unexpected result I
have experienced Prom using GAB bottle of your. Hair
Restorative. After . using every kind of Restoratives
extant, but without success r and finding my head nearly
destitute of hair, I was finally induced to try a bottle of
your Hair Restorative. Now, candor and justice compel
me to announce to whoever may read this, that I now
possess a new and beautiful powth of hair, will& I
pronounce richer andi handsomer than the original was.
I will therefore take occasion to recommend this in
valuable remedy to A.i.r..who may feel the necessity of it.
Respectfully yours., REV. 8. ALLEN BROCK.
P. S —'Bhis testimonial of my approbation for your
valuable medicine (as you are aware of), is unsolicited;
but if you think it worthy of a plan among the rest,
insert if you.wish ; if nob destroy and say nothing.

AN aperient and Stomachic preparation of IRON purl.
fled of Oxygen and Carbon by combustion in Hydrogen.
Sanctioned by the highest Medical Authorities, both in
Europe and the United States, and preeeribed in their
practice.
The experience of thousands daily proves that no pre
paration of Iron can be compared with it. Impurities of
the blood, depression of vital energy, pale and otherwise
Sickly complexions, indicate its necessity in almost every
Conceivable case.
Innoxious in all maladies in which it has been tried, R
has proved absolutely curative in each of the following
complaints, viz:
IN DEBILITY, NERVOUS AFFECTIONS, EMACIATION, DYS
PEPSIA, CONSTIPATION, DIARIMCSA, DYSENTERY, INCIPIENT
CONSIMMTION, SOROPL - LOuS TIIIMaCuLosIS, SALT RHEUM,
MISMENSTRUATION, WHITES, CHL OROS'S. LIVEROOMPLAINTS,
CHRONIC HEADACHES, SHEUILLTISM,INTERmITTMITFEVERB,
PIMPLES ON THE FACIE, &O.
In cases of GENERAL DEBILITY, whether the result of
acute disease, or of the continued diminution of nervous
• and muscular energy from chronic complaints, one trial of
. this restorative has proved successful to en extent which
no description or written attestation would render credible.
Invalids so long bed-ridden as to have become forgotten in '
their own neighborhoods, have suddenly re-appeared in the
busy world as if just returned from protracted travel in a
distant land. Some very signal instances of this kind are
attested of female Sufferers, emaciated victims of apparent
I MaHOMMS, sanguineous exhaustion, critical changes, and
that complication of nervous and dyspeptic aversion to air
and exercise for which the physician has no name.
In Mayon AFFECTIONS of all kinds, and for reasons
familiar to medical men, the operation of this preparative
of iron must necessarily be salutary, for, unlike the old
oxides, it is vigorously tonic, without being exciting and
overheating; and gently, regularly aperient, even in the
most obstinate cases of costiveness, without ever being a
gastric purgative, or inflicting a disagreeable sensation.
It is this latter property, among others, which makes it
so remarkably effectual and permanent a remedy for Piles,
upon which it also appears to exert a distinct and specific
action. by dispersing the local tendency which forms them.
In DYSPEPSIA, innumerable as are its causes, a single box
of these Chalybeate Pills has often sufficed for the most
habitual cases, including the attendant Costiveness.
In unchecked DIARRHEA, even when advanced to DYSEN
VERY, confirmed, emaciating, and apparently malignant
the effects have been equally decisive and astonishing.
In the local pains, loss of flesh and strength, debilitating
cough, and remittent hectic, which generally indicate Ile-
GIP' ENT CONSUMPTION, this remedy has allayed the alarm
of friends and physicians, in several very gratifying and
interesting instances.
In 13oitoirnzorra TCHERCIILVDIS, this medicated iron hag ,
had far more than the good effect of the most cautiously
balanced preparations of iodine, without any of their well
known liabilities.
The attention of females cannot be too confidently invited
to this remedy and restorative, in the cases peculiarly of
fecting them.
In RHEUMATISM, both chronic and hailammatory—in the
latter, however r more decidedly—it has been invariably well
reported, both as alleviating pain and reducing the swel
lings and stiffness of the joints and muscles.
In INTERMITTENT FEVERS it MEM necessarily to a great
remedy and energetic restorative, and its progress in the
new aettlements.of the West, will probably be one of high
renown and usefulness.
No remedy has ever been discovered in the whole history
of medicine, which exerts such prompt, happy, and fully
restorative effects. Good appetite, complete digestion,
rapid acquisition of strength, with an unusual disposition
for active and cheerful exercise, immediately follow its use.
Put up in neat flat metal bones containing 50 pills, price
&0 cents per box for sale by druggists and dealers. Will
be sent free to any address on receipt of the price. All
letters, orders, etc., should be addressed to

_ _
ENORMOIMBUSINESS FOR ONEI NEW YORK. MERCHANT.—
We are happy to inform our fellow-citizens that there is
one place in our city where the physician, apothecary,
and country merchant, can go and purchase pure Wines
and Liquors, as pure as imported, and of the best quality.
We do not intend to give an elaborate description of this
merchant's extensive business, although it will well re
pay any stranger or citizen to visit lIDOLEHO WoLsx's
extensive warehouse, Noe. 18, 20 and 22, Beaver street,
and Nos 17,19 and 21, Marketfield street. His stock of
Schnapps on hand ready for shipment could not have
been less than thirty thousand cases; the Brandy, some
ten thousand cases—Vintages of 1836 to 1886; and ten
thousand cases of Madeira, Sherry and Port Wines,
Scotch and Irish Whisky, Jamaica and St. Croix Rum,
some very old and equal to any in this country. He also
had three large cellars, filled with Brandy, Wines, &c.
in casks, under Custom-House key, ready for bottling:
Mr. WOLFE'S sales of Schnapps last year amounted to
one hundred and eighty thousand dozen, and we hope in
less than two years he may be equally successf with
his Brandies and Wines.
His business merits the patronage of every lover of
his species. Private families who wish pure Wines and
Liquors for medical use should send: their orders direct
to Mr. WOLFE, until every Apothecary in the land make
up their minds to discard the poisonous stuff from their
shelves, and replace it with WOLFE'S pure WINES and
LIQUORS.
We understand Mr. WOLFE, for the accommodation of
small dealers in the country, puts up assorted cases of
Wines and Liquors. Such a man, and such a merchant,
should be sustained against his tens of thousands of op
ponents in the United States, who sell nothing but imi
tations, ruinous alike to human health and happiness.

nance,—which evinces a deficiency of the red globub:s,-„
accompanies a diseased organism. Preparations of IRON
have been given for the purpose of supplying the red glo
bules, but we contend that IRON alone, SULPHUR alone,
or PHOSPHOROUS alone, will not meet the deficient;
in every case, but that a judicious combination of g¢
these elements is necessary to restore the blood to its
normal standard. This point, never before attained, has
been reached in the BLOOD FOOD, and its disuovely
ranks as one of the most scientific and important of the
age. Its effects in
CONSUMPTION
are to softer. the cough, brace the nerves, strengthen the
system, alla,, the prostrating right sweats, increase the

the lacking red globules, increase the appetite, restore
the color, and clothe the skeleton frame with flesh. The
