WE are requested to invite the attention of
our readers to the advertisement of the Penn
sylvania Imperjal Oil Company, which will be
found in another column. The statement of
its officers, who are gentlemen of character
and standing, is such as to warrant the confi
dence of the public; and, as its lands are all
locaFed in the heart of the oil region, invest
ment in it will of course be remunerative.

TEE OLD LADY IS IN THE CITY.—The old
lady, Mrs. Prudence, from the upper end of
Dauphin county, has been in the city, for the
last week, but owing to the eicitement and
great rush attendant upon Christmas, !she has
deferred making her general winter purchases,
and has been content to look around and de
termine upon the best place to obtain such
dry goods as she wants. After careful exam
ination, her decision is to make up her bundle
at the cheap dry goods store of C. L. Bowman,
No. 1, southeast corner of Front and Market
streets.
A CAno.--The ladies return their sincere
thanks to Messrs. Moore, Eby and Fahne
stock for their very liberal donations of mo
ney, and to the citizens of Harrisburg gene
rally, for their liberality in providing a din
ner for the sick and wounded at Camp Curtin
Hospital on Christmas day. To Mr. Jonathan
Eackenstose, Judge Hiester, Mrs. M. A.
Rutherford, the ladies at the asylum and
others of our country friends, we all tender
our most heartfelt thanks for their kind as
sistance. We hope they may ever realize in
their hearts that it is more blessed to give
than to receive. We also tender our thanks
to the editor of the TELEGRAPH, and to the
ministers of the gospel, for their kindness to
us.

PENNSYLVANIA IMPERIAL OIL COMPANY.
This company again present their scheme in
our advertising column, rightly judging that
reliable companies have nothing to fear from
the widest publicity. Hon. Alexander H. Mc-
Clure is the President, and the Board of Di
rectors is composed of some of our staunchest
business men. They represent it as being
organized to pay dividends from the start, and
that the revenue from oil alone is sufficient to
pay twelve per cent. on the capital, even in its
partially developed condition. Their reserved
working capital is $250,000, and they claim
that its resources for certain dividends are not
approached by any other oil stock in the
market at even double the original cost. The
office is at 139 South ,Fifth street, Philadel
phia. —Age.
Trir. Thou Busncass.--Since the beginning
of the rebellion, nearly all the idle works in
this State have been put in full blast, and
many new ones have been erected. We learn
that extensive works are about to be construct
ed near Shippensburg, inCumberland-county,
In speaking of the improvements there, 'the
News says: "One of the most important of
these, is the erection of an extensive Anthra
cite Iron works immediately south of this
town. The party embraces some of our most
enterprising business men. The idea of erect
ing an Anthracite Furnace in Shippensburg
is not new; it has been spoken of for several
years, by parties from abroad, who are aware
of the immense undeveloped mineral re
sources embraced within five or six miles
around this plane. We heartily congratulate
this community that the enterprise is about
to be undertaken by our own citizens."
ACKNOWLEDGINIENT. —We not only deem it a
duty, but our especial privilege, to tender to the
ladies of Harrisburg our sincere and heartfelt
thanks, for the sumptuous dinner, so bounti
fully served up to us, on Saturday last. The
thorough impartiality that characterized the
distribution of all the luxuries, won our high
est esteem, and made us feel that to be here
came next to our own homes. And while we
thus endeavor to acknowledge the kind treat
ment we received, and feel anxious for our res
toration to health, we earnestly pray God long
to withhold the hand of affliction from such
good and beneficent ladies, and grant each
and every one of them her hundredth merry
Christmas.

CHRISTMAS YESTERDAY-110LO it toss Observed
and who Participated in its Festivities. —The
usual festivities of Ye Merrie Christmas were
postponed from Sunday, the 25th, to Monday,
the 26th, when, with the true grit of a peo
ple grateful for all the blessings they enjoy,
the citizens of Harrisburg entered largely into
the pleasures of the occasion. Notwithstand
ing the sloppy condition of the side-walks
and street crossings, gay crowds of young folk
were out in all directions, making their annual
calls and receiving the customary preSents.
The principal places of business were closed,
affording their employees the opportunity of
that pleasure which they so fairly earned dur
ing a year of great labor. By 10 o'clock we
had the news of Sherman's triumph at Savan
nah, confirmed by an official dispatch. To
this - intelligence was added that of another
victory over Hood, so that mingled with the
festivities of the holidays, we had the out
bursts of patriotic joy which great events like
these alone can elicit. The DAILY TELEGRAPH
office was the especial attention of the crowd
who read the news on the bulletin board con
taining the glorious intelligence.
—While alluding thus in general to the fes
tivities of Christmas, we are constrained to
particularize in one or two instances where we
were present to participate in the enjoyment
of "good cheer." Mr. Bolton, of the Buehler
House, with a recollection illustrating the
kindness of his heart, didnot forget the print
er, but recognized his worth' and his wants
by sending to our composing room several
bottles of choice wines. Had Bolton heard
the toasts drank to his health, by our "gay
and festive" typos, he would patentads plan
of thus recognizing the printer. He is "a
brick," henceforth, in the eyes of the printer
At the Jones Hmse, the proprietor, Mr.
Mann, had prepared a most sumptuous lunch.
It was decidedly the richest "set out" of the
kind at which we ever were present, deserving
more the name of banquet than lunch. The
fact is, Mann is a prince of good fellows. He
has nothing cheap in his composition, and
never deals in small things. May he live to
keep a hotel and set out such, lunches until
the century closes, and then may he be reju
venated to do the same thing until he becomes
weary of doing good, and asks to be taken
home where good is eternal. Well, that's as
much as we can do for good Mr. Mann.
At the Pennsylvania R. R. Depot Res
taurant, under the proprietorship of mine
host of the United States, the over popular-
Hutchison, a most elegant entertainment was
given to the employees of the road in this
city. Only a few "outsiders" were invited to
participate, and we venture the assertion that
the guests will bear us out in our description
of the entertainment.as being one of the most
sumptuous of which they ever partook. There
was nothing wanting on the table, that was
in season. The board' literally groaned with
rare and sumptuous fare, and Hutchison him
self was in a blaze of glory. Toasts. were drank
and after enjoying themselves hugely, • the
company separated satisfied that Hutchison
is the right man in the right place.

John's Day, Tuesday, Dec. 27th, after which
the annual supper will take place at the

ing from the preparations which are made, we
feel satisfied that it will be a handsome affair.
The supper will be on the table at 9P. M pre

DINNER TO THE INVALID CORPS ON SATUR
DAY, DECEMBER 31ST, 1864.—As it is impossi
ble to have the Invalid Corps partake of the
Christmas Festival at Camp Curtin Hospital,
the ladies intend getting up. a dinner on Sat
urday, the 31st of December, 1864, expressly
for those brave men, who certainly deserve
our sympathy and regard; for they have, also,
become partially disabled in the service of
their country. We call upon all patriotic
and liberal citizens of Harrisburg, and the
farmers in the vicinity, to aid us in our en
deavors to cheer and comfort the hearts of
the invalid soldiers.
Donations of poultry, vegetables, apples,
pies, sausages, pickles, or money, will be
thankfully received by the committee.

The oldest and most reliable medicine for
the cure of Spermatorhcea, Seminal Weakness,
Loss of Power lc. This medicine has stood
the test of over thirty years, and has always
proved a success.
Dr. RAND'S SPECIFIC is exhibited in the
form of pills, made up entirely of substances
that have a specific effect upon the generative
organs. Most persons associate the idea .of
operations upon the bowels from taking any
kind of pills. The SPECIFIC of Dr. Rand is
not intended as an evacuating medicine. Its
medicinal virtues are expended entirely upon
the impaired regenerative organs. The pills
are not unpleasant to the taste, and many
persons masticate them with impunity before
swallowing them ; which plan we would al
ways recommend, as affording the speediest
way to get the effect of the remedy.

other preparations for hoarseness and throat
troubles, and, in comparison with them all,
can cheerfully commend your own as'a - most
admirable specific for public speakers and
singers, in oases of hoarseness, coughs and
colds. I have found them serving in time of
need, most effectually.

where the vocal organs are very much taxed,
I have found the need of some gentle expec
