Savannah to Capitulate on Thursday
The Associated Press' letter from Fortress
Monroe says, the Charleston Courier of the
16th contains the following:
A flag of truce boat brought up, on Thursi
day, 104 paroled Confederate officers from
Fort Pulaski. The Ycinkee officers in the
fleet report that Gen. Sherman and staff
have arrived at Hilton Head; also, that-it
was rumored that Savannah was to capitulate
at 12 o'clock, ii., on Thursday.
Thy had learned of • the fall of Fort-Pd
Allister, but give no particulars.
Another thousand of Yankee prisoners wilt
be taken down this morning. This completes
the exchange and makes the number turned
over by Colonel Hatch 11,000.
The Republican says: The Government re
ceived a dispatch Pot night from General
Grant, at City Point, announcing that the.
Richmond paperaiof yesterday morning (the,
22d,) contain an official dispatch from Gene
ral Bragg to Jeff Davis, dated Fort Fisher,'
New Inlet, N. C., Dec. 21, (Wednesday,) read- 1
ing as follows:
"The entire fleet of the enemy is in sight,;
but cannot operate.
"The weather continues bad.
"We are able to hold Wilmington."

HEADQUARTERS ARMY OF THE POTOMAC,
December 21.
There is nothing of interest transpiring in
this Department. The enemy keep up their
fire, but not so persistently as formerly, on
the Dutch Gap canal. Very few casualties
occur, owing to precautions taken to avoid
the shells. For the week ending Dec. 18th,
180 deserters had reached Richmond from the
Union armies, and would be forwarded to the
boider to start for their hOmes on blockade
ruiners.
The report of the Central Pacific Railroad
Company is published. The California end
of the road shows the earnings of 31 miles of
road for seven months, during which time it
has been in operation, to be $103,000 in gold,

road is graded 12 miles further into the moun
tains. The Treasurer received at this place
amount to nearly $1,750,000 currency, and
coin bills on Atlantic cities are offering about
previous rates. Money is easy with a tenden
cy to lower rates.
The mail boat Webster, from City Point,
:yesterday, is not only frOen up but is- aground
a mile below Washington. The ice in the
Potomac to-day Was sufficiently thick to per
mit persons to walk ashore from the steamer.
The mail train going east on the Cleveland
and Pittsburg railroad broke through a bridge
at Hudson this A. m. Sig my were killed.
No particulars have been received of the ac
cident.
There is very little movement in trade cir
cles. There is very little demand for flour and
only 1,200 bbls sold at $9 75@10 for super
fine, and $1150@12 for extra lankly; receipts
and stocks small. Nothing doing in rye flout
and corn meal. Wheat moves slowly but
prices are unchanged; sales of 3,000 bush
good red at $2 6042 65, and small lots of
white at $2.80@2 90. Rye sells slowly at
$1 72. Corn comes forward slowly and is
dull; sales of 3.000 bush at $1 8641 88 for
old yellow, $1 65@1 68 for new yellow and
$1 - 60 for new white. Oats are taken on ar
rival at 92c. In groceries no change. Pro
visions are held stiffly; sales of mess pork at
$42@43; 300 lbs pickled hams atililo,lo_,2Ciic;
shoulders in salt at 18ic and lard at 21,1@25c.
Whisky is dull; small sales at $2 35. Petro
leum is firm at 52c for crude, 74@76c for re
fined in bond and 944970 for free.

ED. TELEGEAPH—Dear Sir:—"in a former
letter I neglected to mention—while speaking
of the merits of Sergeant Wm. A. Bush's
Drum Corps—the names of several other per
formers on the parchment, belonging to Har
risburg. The names omitted, carelessly, were
Jacob Poist, John H. Caslow, Aaron Kineade
and Chess. Gibson, all of whom axe clever
soldiers and capital drummers, and certainly
worthy of a notice in our correspondence.
The staunoh old steamer "Warrior" headed
down the river on Saturday once more, laden
to the gunwales with "fresh" beef for the brave
and gallant Union soldiers in General Grant's
army. There is seemingly no end to the re
sources of the U. S. Government, in the fur
nishing and despatching of supplies to the
front, and to other points, where needed, from
Washington city. Immense trains of stock
are shipped from the west, by contractors,
and are daily shipped at Washington or Ate's
andria, and forwarded with the utmost des
patch. Much of this description of subsistence
is shipped over the Pennsylvania Central Rail
way, the Northern Central Railway, and over
the Baltimore and Ohio Road. There is al
ways a surplus on hand, at this point, the
cattle-herders inforthed me, and' at no time
has the supply fallen short of the demand.
With supplies so abundant, the army rein
forced and organized to such perfection as we
find it at the present day, with victory perch
ing on our national banners at every recent
engagement with the panic-stricken enemy, we
have the brightest hopes of a speedy termina
tion of the rebellion! The belligerents, as all
recent circumstances prove, are nearly "played
out"—out of spirits, out of money, out of credit,
and out of most of the common necessaries
of life ! Even the secesh sympathizers here
in Alexandria, when you chance to draw them
out in conversation, readily admit that their
cause was never more desperate—so utterly
hopeless.
I. learn that there is an effort about to be
made for the construction of a, chapel, at, or
somewhere near camp, for the purpose of
holding service therein by our worthy Chap
lain. It is entirely out of the question to get
a congregation of men together, when -they
would be obliged to stand over shoe-tops in
ma to listen to a sermon. Whatever may
have been said, heretofore, in regard to, the
demoralization of soldiers in the army, it ap
plies in no manner to the 201st Regiment A
majority of the men composing this regiment
are men of families, accustomed to keep the
Sabbath day holy, and to attend public wor
ship at home with their families. Many as

;The men under his charge are all well dis
posed and willing at all times to be encour
aged, as well as instructed in the truths of the
Bible. The spirit of Christianity is infused
.in the Regiment
We sincerely hope our friend and faithful
adviser, Chaplain Rakestraw, will succeed in
getting some place wherein to preach the gos
pel, so that we may be reminded alike of our
duty to God, as well as to our country and
her proud old flag!
• There are several courts-martial still con
vened in Alexandria, and to-day a heavy de
tail was made from the 201st, for the purpose
of facilitating military business. You will
perceive, therefore, that we of the 201st,- are
of some account in this part of Dixie.
It is awfully muddy here. - Men almost
Swamp in crossing the streets it our post.
The boys are talking about purchasing a gun
boat, for the purpose of plying between Duke
Street Grand Guard Post and Camp Slough.

16th day of December, 1864, to inc directed, for holding a
Court of Oyer and Terminer and General Tail Delivery and
Quarter Sessions of the Peace of Harrisburg, for the county

Notice is therefore hereby given to the Coroner, Justices
of the Peace, Aldermen and Constables of the said county
of Dauphin, that they be then and there in their proper

their records, inquisitions, examinations, and their own
remembrances, to do those things which to their office
appertains to be done, and those who are bound in recog
nizances to prosecute against the prisoners that are or
shall be in the Jail of Dauphin county, be then and there
to prosecute agaidst them as shall be just.
Given under my hand, at Harrisburg, the 19th day of
December, in the year of our L0rd,1864, and in the eighty
ninth year of the independence of the United States.
