DEER are unusually plenty upon the moun

BF.LLEFONTE is putting on city airs, shop
lifting being quite fashionable there.
LOCAL affairs are unusually dull. No mur

Oun notion stores are well stocked with
holiday goods. Buy from those who advertise.
Now is the time, friends, to advertise your
holiday goods. Take people while they are
in a humor.
Mr. Wm. BRADY offers a handsome stock of

JOE MILLER opens Sanford's Hall, to-night,

success in his new enterprise.
I=
Tun proceedings of the Teachers' Institute
held at Middletown, are published to-day, in
a condensed form, except the resolutions
adopted, which are given in full.
TELE youngsters are on tip-toe in anticipa
tion of the annual call of good old Kris Krin
gle, who is always on the alert to discover the
whereabouts of good children. May all their
fond expectations be fully realized.
'run rush of holiday advertisements is so
great, that we are compelled to condense our
reading matter, to a considerable extent. We
trust our readers will bear with us a short
time, until we have more room.
How to get up a cheap concert—Buy fifteen
grains of quinine, swallow it in five grain
doses, and shortly after the last instalment is
down you will be enjoying such a singing and
buzzing in your head and ears as will rival all
the humble bee, hornet and yellow jacket

losophy.
ATTENTION is directed to the extensive ad

DEATH OF S. J. REA.—The well-known Har
risburg correspondent of the Philadelphia and
Pirttsburg press, S. J. Rea, Esq., died at the
residence of his brother-in-law in Beaver
county, on Friday last.
He served one term in the Legislature. He
was well posted in State affairs, and, therefore
well qualified for the duties of a newspaper
correspondent. He leaves a wife and family.
Tam DEAD Alava! —Among the members of
the 93d Regiment P. V., reported killed at the
battle of the Wilderness, was James Youtz, of
Lebanon, Pa. His friends mourned his loss,
and the necessary steps were taken to settle
up his "affairs. But a few days ago he rejoiced
his friends by appearing among them again
in the flesh, looking only a little worse for the
wear. Instead of being killed, he had been
taken prisoner, and was among those ex
changed recently at Savannah. Herman
Ettimbleton, of the 4th Pennsylvania Cavalry,
who was also thought to be dead, returned
with Mr. Youtz.

PINE GaovE.—The Pine Grove Iron Works,
situate in Penn township, Cumberland county,
have been sold to the "South Mountain Iron
Company" for a million and a half of dollars.
The same property was sold less than a year
ago to Jay Cooke 86 Co., for $225;000. It is
an extensive and valuable estate, well wooded
and watered, and contains inexhaustible sup
plies of the purest iron ore.
We learn that it is the intention of the new
firm to make extensive improvements at the
Works, and to construct a railroad from Pine
Grove to the Cumberland Valley railroad.—
This will give employment to a large number
of laborers, and be the means of putting in
circulation a great deal of money.
THE HOLIDAY SEASON is drawing near. Every
body is now beginning to think of what they
will buy to make some other body happy
during the festive season. To all such we
commend the advertising columns of the
TELEGRAPH as worthy their attention. As a
general rule it may be taken for granted that
all who advertise are enterprising and fully
up with the times. They who invite public
attention to what they have to sell will always
be prepared for the closest public. inspection.
They expect to make large sales, and there
fore buy so as to sell at resonable profits
Our general knowledge of the dealers who ad
vertise in this paper fully justifies us in com
mending them as enterprising and honorable
business men, with whom it is always a
plasm.° to deal, and we confidently believe
such will be the experience of all who try
them.
ROUSE'S STAR COMBINATION COMPANY contin
ues to draw fine audiences. Therewas a large
crowd present last night, when the emotional
drama of EAST LYNNE was performed. Full
satisfaction was rendered. This evening the
thrilling tragedy of Lucerne. Bonore will be
produced—Miss Fanny B. Price appearing as
the Poisoner. Another opportunity will not
be afforded our citizens to witness the famous
tragedienne in this great character. She will
be sustained by the full strength of the Star
troupe. Mr. D. Hanchett, and Mr. Meeker,
both actors of great ability, appear in charac
ters suited to them. The entertainment will
conclude with the amusing' afterpiece of Ma.
AND Mits. PrrsaWurrs, or "The Blessed Baby."
Go to Brant's Hall this evening. The bill is
one of the best presented this season.

A. CARD.
Owing to the constantly increasing demand
for his Hair Restorative, Prof. Sibbet, has been
induced to remain in Harrisburg until Tues
day noon of next week; positively no longer.
There are now a great many of our citizens
who have been using the Professor's Restora
tive for some tinie, and they unite in one
common testimonial, as to its efficiency in
cleansing the scalp from dandruff, enlivening
the hair and arresting it from falling off.—
This result secured, the hair must rapidly grow
and thicken; it cannot be otherwise. Persons
who have not as yet called on Mr. S., can still
have this further opportunity. He saye that
he can convince the judgment of any one by
a process of reasoning, whose correctness all
will acknowledge, that the hair can.be restored
when the glands of the scalp are not entirely
disorganized. This Restorative as a dressing
for the hair is pronounced to be superior to
anything now before the public, being entirely
free from oil or any other injurious property,
and as a Restorative it speaks for itself. It
has never been known to fail. deel.s-d2t

C. A. RINN vART-Dear girt .T. have used Brown's
Bronchial Troches, Wistar's Lozenges, and
other preparations for hoarseness and throat
troubles, and, in comparison with them all,
can cheerfully commend your own as a most
admirable specific for public speakers and

colds. I have found them serving in time of
need, most effectually.
Yours truly, T. H. ROBINSON,

To 0. A. BamqvanT---Dear Sir: In the habit
of speaking very frequently, and in places
where the vocal organs are very much taxed,
I have found the need of some gentle expec
torant, and that want has been supplied in
your excellent Troches.
I consider them very far superior to any
Lozenges that I have ever used, in removing
speedily that huskiness of the voice arising
from its too frequent use, and impairing the
effectiveness of the delivery of public addres
ses. Yours, &c.,
JNO. WALKER JACKSON,

To C. A. Ruirivesix—Dear Sir : Having used
your Troches, I am free to say they are the
best I have ever tried, and take great pleasure

the test of over thirty years, and has always
proved a success.
Dr. RAND'S SPECIFIC is exhibited in the
form of pills, made up entirely of substances
that have a specific effect upon the generative
organs. Most persons associate the idea of
operations upon the bowels from taking any
kind of pills. The &Baum of Dr. Rand is
not intended as an evacuating medicine. Its
medicinal virtues are expended entirely upon
the impaired regenerative organs. The pills
are not unpleasant to the taste, and many
persons masticate them with impunity before
swallowing them ; which plan we would al
ways recommend, as affording the speediest
way to get the effect of the remedy.
