ELECTION.—An election for nine directors
of :the West Harrisburg Market Company,
will be held at the nee• market house, to-mor

BUCKWHEAT OAKES. —Our readers will be
happy to learn that the buckwheat crop has
been very abundant, and that the prospects
ter cakes are good, the only drawback being
the high price of butter and "hog gravy."
REV. Ma. 80 - Emus announces to his con-
Is yegp.tion, that the " Congregational Bible
Class," for this week, will be held in the Lec
ture Room, this ( Wednesday) evening, at 7
o'clock. All are invited to attend, both old
end young.
THEXTRE!—To-night the plays of 808 NET
TLES, ;Town) JUM, and BONNIE FISH-WIFE, Will
compose the bill at the Theatre. Sam Hemple
will sustain the principal characters. The hall
IS filled each evening, and the manager, Bit
house, is sparing neither trouble nor expense
to render the entertainments attractive.
ONE Dar LoNons, —We have the pleasure of
Eamon:acing that Dr. Crane, the distinguished
physician, whose lectures and examinations
have astonished our citizens, will remain one
Jay longer, and can be consulted at his room,
So. 27, Jones House, during to-morrow. The
sillicted should embrace this opportunity of
undergoing an examination at the hands of
Dr. Crane, as he can deterniine at once
whether a cure can be effected. If preferred,
patients will be visited by the Doctor, at their
homes.
MARKET. —With the approach of Thanks
giving day and Christmas, prices "go up",in
our market. This morning, turkeys, not very
large nor very fat, sold as high as $4 50 per
pair ; a large wild "gobbler" commanded the
handsome sum of t 5 00 ; chickens were sold
at from 60 cents to $1 00 per pair, according
to quality ; butter advanced to 45g50 cents,
and eggs to a like figure. Vegetables were
slightly advanced. Prices at, the butchers'
stands remained unchanged.
CO=
Al/NWIS Vorrso.—Our readers need not be
surprised at the increase of the Democratic
vote in York county, between the 11th of Oc
;ober and Tuesday last. We were confidently
informed that in the Fourth ward of this Bo
rough, boys under twenty-one were allowed
to vote 'without ceremony, and the same thing
was practiced to a large extent in different
parts of the county. These modern Demo
crats have a strange way of swelling their ma
jorities. If the Union men were to pursue
the same course, they would call it fraud—

TALKING IT C001..--The editor of the Holli
daysburg Standard, a M'Clellan paper, is quite
calm since the election. The following squibs
are from his columns :
Simmered down--The Junior 3l'Clellau
Club.
On the rampage—The Junior Republican
Club.
Invisible—Our Democratic rooster. Can't
crow--got the "black vomit."
Visible--Republican roosters, coons, ele
phants, .kc. Can't say that we fancy them
much ; but what can't be cured had better be
endured with as much philosophy as possible.
THE NEN .111&lismr HOUSE —The West Har
risburg Market bids fair to be a most perfect
success. Since its opening, the citizens of the
upper part of the city have been enabled to
'et almost everything that can be had at the
old market, at about the same prices, without
the exposure, and trouble of dragging their
marketing along a couple of miles, as they
have had to do heretofore. We would advise
our farmers to bring some of their marketing
along on Tuesday and Friday mornings, and
Saturday afternoon, as they will have a com
fortable place, and can get the same prices
as at the other market, and have plenty of
customers for all they bring. -

PETROLEUM IS BUM.—"Cotton" has been
deposed and a new monarch has been set up
to govern and control the fortunes of men.
'the greasy king, however fickle, arbitrary
and slippery he may seem to be, sways a scep
tre before which all the devotees of Dame
Fortune meekly bow and yield a willing obe
dience. His kingdom embraces Rot only the
universal Yankee nation, but on the principle
of annexation of territory is rapidly extending
over the whole civilized world, and will ulti
mately, we have no doubt, include some por
tions, if not all of that which is uncivilized
too. Everybody feels the influence of this
Vigorous ruler, and the verdict of the world
traly seems to be that "Pretroleunt is king."
But we did not intend, in this article, to
enter upon an elaborate dissertation on oil,
lunch less to vaunt the praises of this omnipo
tent sovereign, or to attempt an analysis of
the constitution and laws under 'Which his
subjects operate, but simply to call the atten
tion of our readers to the advantages now
offered in our city to court the favors
of _King Petroleum, and realize something
substantial from an actual - participa
tion in the affairs of his Government.
There are several accredited agents from Pe
trone/ in our city, who are doubtless ready and
willing to introduce all those who may favor
them with a call, into the mysteries of the
oily region, but there is on e whom we desire,
without being invidious, to recommend to our
many appreciative readers—we allude to that
worthy gentleman, Maj. J. R. Muffiy. If our
frimids will call upon him, he will take great
pleasure in telling them of the fabulous wealth
of that portion of Petrolia which he repre
-3 ants; he will unfold to them its great re
sources, show them its greasy productions,
and if they are not convinced that the time has
Conte to invest, they are made of much more

of the oil regions of West Virginia and being
now rapidly developed, and with its seven l (7)

and celebrity the Colimbia and other fabu

friends of the resources and prospects of

SEASONABLE ADVICE.—Lay in your winter
supply of coal. The advice, however, is more
easily given than followed, considering the
high prices demanded for it.
PHRENOLOGY
Dr. A. Crane has, for the last few days, been
astonishing our citizens by his wonderful
knowledge of the occult and extraordinary
science of Phrenology,•as well as the laws per
taining to man generally. He lectured here
on Friday, Saturday and Monday nights last,
and, at the close of each lecture, a committee
of seven were appointed, the Doctor blind
folded, and subjects presented, whose heads
he examined and delineated their several char
acters, each entirely different, with an accu
racy that most intimate acquaintances could
not have surpassed. His lectures were chaste;
eloquent and forcible, and replete with useful
and important instruction.
No one, however sceptical on the subject,
who will not allOw his prejudices to influence
him, can hear him lecture and examine a few
heads, and go away without being either firm
ly convinced, or having his prejudices very
much shaken. Owing to the number of pa-
tients he has on hand, the Doctor will remain
at the Jones Hoase during to-morrow, andiwe
would advise all who are suffering with any
chronic disease, and especially those of the
lungs, to call upon him.
Independent of his knowledge of phrenolo
gy, which he..has practised for thirty years
with distinguished success throughout the
United States, Europe and Mexico, the Dr.
is a regular bred physician, and we believe a
gentleman of a high order of talents, and be
yond a doubt one of the most, if not the
most skilful and seientifie physicians and
phrenologists of the age.
NOTICE, —The person who stole two glass
lanterns from the stairway leading to the Me
chanics' Rooms, fourth story of Wyeth's Hall,
Market street, on last Thursday night, is re
spectfully invited to return them to the hall,
or send them to the office of the "TramonAvit,"
as he is well known, and will positively be
prosecuted if they are vot returned. Atten
tion to this notice will save trouble.

C.A. BANNvezr-Dear Sir: I have used Brown's
Bronchial Troches, Wistar's Lozenges, and
other preparations for hoarseness and throat
troubles, and, in comparison with them all,
can cheerfully commend your own as a most
admirable specific for public speakers and
singers, in cases of hoarseness, coughs and
colds. I have found them serving in time of
need, most effectually.
Yours trialy, T. H. ROBINSON,
Pastor of N. S. Presbyterian Church.
or I agree with Mr. Robinson as to the
value of Bannvart's Troches.
W. C. CATTELL,
Late Pastor of 0. S. Presbyterian Church.
Hainassuno, Jan., 1864.
To C. A. Itamivear—Dear Sir: In the habit
of speaking very frequently, and in places
where the vocal organs are very much taxed,
I have found the need of some gentle expec
torant, and that want has been supplied in
your excellent Troches.
I consider them very far superior to any
Lozenges that I have ever used, in removing
speedily that huskiness of the voice arising
from its too frequent use, and impairing the
effectiveness of the delivery of public addres
ses. Yours, &c.,
JNO. WALKER JACKSON,
Pastor of the Locust St. Methodist Church
To C. A. BANNvaar—Dear : Having used
your Troches, I am free to say they are the
best I have ever tried, and take great pleastire
in recommending them to all persons afflicted
with sore throat or huskijtess of voice, arising
from public speaking or singin.g,

of the throat. They impart clearness to the
voice, and are certainly of great benefit to all
public speakers. - A. J. HERR.

Dr. Rand's Specific.
The oldest and most reliable medicine for
the cure of Spermatorhcea. Seminal Weakness,
Loss of Power &o. This medicine has stood
the test of over thirty years, and hatialways
proved a success.
Dr. RAND'S SPECIFIC is exhibited in the
form of pills, made up entirely of substances
that have a specific effect upon the generative
organs. Most persons associate the idea of
operations upon the bowels from taking any
kind of pills. The 5PE017147 of Dr. Rand is
not intended as an evacuating medicine. Its
medicinal virtues are expended entirely upon
the impaired regenerative organs. The pills
are not unpleasant to the taste, and many
persons masticate them with impunity before
swallowing them ; which plan we would al
ways recommend, as affording the speediest
way to get the effect of the remedy.

Renovo and Emporium
ri ,-- 0-wrir-morrig FOR M.4-1.1.A1+
THE PlTTrikittZtl i fra .410) FHrfe LAND
CatiPaltr,& - tirliAd:bia4.ari of th e Legislature
of Pennsylvania, offers 'Gil* sale Maim lots for dwellings
and business purposes in the above new towns ou the
line of the Philadelphia and Erie Railroad.
RENOVO has been selected as the sito for the exten
sive shops for building'and - repairing the rolling stock of
the Philadelphia and Erie Railroad, of which the Penna.
Railroad Company are now lessees. It is 92 miles west of
Sunbury, and 196 miles east of Erie. The town is beau
tifully situated on the margiti of the west branch of the
Susquehanna river, in the county of Clinton, and is sur
rounded by romantic and attractive scenery. The Rail
road Company are 'erecting an immense Locomotive
Rpund House, Repair Shops for Cars and Engines, Car
Building shop. Iron and Braga Furnaces, and Dwellings
for the Superintendent' and other officers. A splendid
Hotel, with which areconnected arrangements for feeding
passengers on the most extensive scale, has been com
menced.. All these buildings are of the most permanent
and substantial character, of brick and iron, and are in
accordance with the immense business anticipatedcn the
completion of this great Railroad, so long anxiously
looked for, and now au accomplished fact—the last rail
connecting thnSusquehanna river with Lake Eric having
been laid on Saturday, Jelyld, 1864.
A Company has been chartered by the Legislature for
supplying the town with gas and water, and the water
works are nearly completed. Churches will be erected
immediately. The situation of RENOVO is entirely
healthy, and as the dimensions of the town are limited
by nature, the value of the lots must appreciate greatly
in the course of a few years.
EMPORIUM will certainly be the most important com
morelsl point between Lock Haven and Warren, a dis
tance of 168 miles. It is near the eentre of tne railroad,
47 miles west of Renovo; 139 miles from Sunbury and
149 miles from Erie. It to near the Junction of the Drift
wood Branch of the Sinnemahoning, with West Creek,
Portage Creek and North Creek, the Valleys of which
streams make it the most accessible point on the Phila
delphia and Erie raiiroad to a very extensive district of
country. The moment the projected railroad connecting
it with the city of Rochester, N. Y., shall be completed,
few interior towns in the State will surpass it in business
capabilities. Au excellent graded road now connects it
with Coudersport, the seat of Justice of Potter county.
It Mahe connected with Smethport, the seatof Justice of
McKean county. Emporium Is the County Seat of Cam
eron county; it has a handsome Court Home, and the
Land Company have just completed a large and commo
dious Hotel, which will immediately be opened to the
public. The Railroad Company are about to erect a hand
some and permanent Pasasenger Station at a central point
near the Hotel and Court House.. The place is healthy,
and excellent water is abundant. It is in the midst of
one of the finest White Pine regions in Pennsylvania.
As a manufacturing town it has great advantages; coal,
lumber, stone, bark for tanneries are abundant, and its
railroad communications with the great lakes and all
points of Importance in the seaboard are unsurpassed.
This place was selected thirty years ago ass point of im
portance, and a town laid out with the prophetic name of
EMPORIUM, but the difficulty of access has prevented
its development so entirely that it is mainly known for
the excellence of hunting and trout fishing in the vicinity.
The completion of the Philadelphia and Erie railroad
must soon make it apiece of great importance as a distri
buting point for goods of all kinds, and it oilers great
advantages for persons of moderate capital who desire
to identify themselves with the early history of a thriv
ing town.
Lithographic Maps of bath towns are now ready, and
'GIDEON J. BALL, General Superintendent, will
furnish all necessary information on the premises, or by
letter.
Ha may be addressed to the care of H. P. RUTTER,
Secretary and Treasurer, Philadelphia and Erie Land Com
pany, No. 205% Walnut street Philadelphia, or at Renovo,
