KILLED ON THE RAILROAD. —The Indiana
Register says: James J. Marshall, son of Wm.
Alarshall, of Clarksburg, this county, was
killed on the Penna. Railroad, on Wednesday
night, 2d inst. The first Freight Express
east broke couplings near Beatty's station,
coming down grade, and the detached part of
the train ran into the other breaking two cars
loaded with hogs, into fragments, causing
dreadful havoc, and crushing Mr. Marshall, a
brakesman upon one of the broken cars. He
was aged about 25 years. He served three years
in Co. E, 11th P. R. C.; was wounded once,
and was at one time a prisoner for forty days.
Re was a worthy young man, and his death is
a sad bereavement to his friends.
=I
TEE Shamokin herald contains the follow
ing chapter of accidents:
Sad Accident—John Zaucoller, a boy about
fourteen years of age, fell off Mr. May's new
breaker, on Saturday afternoon, and broke
his neck. It appears that he had been sent
on an errand, and returning, stopped to play
on the breaker, with some other boys, when
this sad accident befell him. He was a son
of Michael Zamaller, a Polander, who has
resided here for some time.
Another.—John Vallentine Spann, a brake
man on the railroad, while coupling cars at
the Cameron Colliery, on Monday morning,
was caught between the bumpers, and in
stantaneously crushed to death. I.le was a
young man, originally from Baltimore, and
had been on the road but a short time.
Still Another.—On. Friday night, E. W
Smith, a young man, and also a brakemen on
the railroad, was caught between the engine
and a car, at Sunbury, and had both of his legs
crushed to the knee. We learn his injuries
are such that his lite is despaired of.
PHOTOGRAPHHZH WITH PRINTERS ' lan.—Or
dinary printers' ink has been successfully
brought into the service of photography.—
This ink is mixed with certain chemicals,
and spread completely over the paper intend
ed to be submitted to the action of the ,rays
of light through a "negative",---the secret con
sisting
in rendering it so sensitive that an
indelible photograph may be fixed on the pa
per, leaving the other portions so free as to
be easily washed off. The time required - tar
exposure, and the advantage is, besides that
of permanence, the fact of the subject being
fixed, developed, and, as it were, completed
without the various manipulations reqnirecl
under the old system. The superfluous ink
is removed by spirits in ten minutes or a
quarter of antour, displaying a picture for
delicacy of tone, beautiful gradation of light
and shade, and minuteness of detail fully
equal to anything heretofore obtained in pho
tog, raphie printing. By this process photo
graphs are literally and at once imprinted
directly from negatives with printers' ink on
paper by the sun. Thus, ha this method, the
ink takes the place of nitrate of silver and
eveiything else wheNbfsurfaees tavelfereto
fore been made sensitive ; so that the process
i B in fact a direct operation of the sun • it§elf

A Sano2m--100 Guns Fired—A salute of
one hundred guns w fired at 12 o'clock
to-day, from Capitol Hill, in honor of the re
election of Abram= Lincoln and the com

The sahite was fired tinder the immediate

contributed largely to the triumph of the
Union cause.
The salute Was fired by the Invalid Corps,
the Republican Invincibles having secured
their services for the occasion. The Invinci

made the necessary arrangements to have the
salute fired.

Enrros lassissuso TiLEoura—Deur Sir:—
Having been one of the Pennsylvania Elec
tion Commissioners to the army of the 'Cum
berland, I take this method of returning my
thanks to the officers and men of that De
partmtint for their uniform kindness to me
while in the discharge of the duties of my of
fice. In my intercourse with the officers and
men, I found but ono officer who absolutely
refused to render me any assistance in
the discharge of my duties, and this ex
ception was the military conductor who
superintended the loading of the cars at Chat
tanooga. This offices could find room for
women of rather doubtful character, sutlers
and citizens, but absolutely refused any com
missioner upon the train, notwithstanding we
all exhibited to him our commissions and pas
ses. The commissioners who were thus
treated were from 0100, Michigan, Kentucky
and myself from Pennsylvania. I have been
unable to ascertain his name or regiment.
Especially do I take pleasure in returning
my thanks to Major General. Thomas, by
whose orders ambulances were furnished to
haul sick and wounded men to the polls, and
also to Dr. R. M. S. Jackson, of Cresson, Pa.,
who has charge of .the Hospitals of Lookout
Mountain, for his hospitality and kind-heart
edness, and to Lieut. S. H. Stevens, of the
Chicago Board of Trade battery and A. A.
Q. M., and to Irwin C. Stump, of Pittsburg,
Pa., clerk in the Q. M. D., for horses, &c.,
furnished me at Nashville, Tennessee, and to
Pennsylvanians, generally, wherever found,
who did everything they possibly could to
facilitate the business of the department to
which I was attached. Yours &c.,

the test of over thirty years, and has always
proved a success.
Dr. RAND'S SPECIFIC is exhibited in the
form of pills, made up entirely of substances
that have a specific effect upon the generative
organs. Most persons associate the idea of
operations upon the bowels from taking any
kind of pills. The SPnorrio of Dr. 'and is
not intended as an evacuating medicine. Its
medicinal virtues are expended entirely upon
the impaired regenerative organs. The pills
are not unpleasant to the taste, and many
persons masticate them with impunity before
swallowing them ; which plan we would al
ways recommend, as affording the speediest
way to get the effect of the' remedy.

TOWN LOTS FOR SALE .
THE PHILA_DELP A AND "ERIE LAND
COMPAST,' chartered by an aer of the Legislature
of Pennsylvania, otters for eale. choke lot*-for.dwellings
and business purposes in the above new
towns on the
line of the Philadelphia and Erie Railroad.
RENOVO has been selected as the site for the inten
sive shops for building and repairing the rolling • stock of
the Philadelphia and Erie Railroad, of which the Penna.
Railroad Company are now lessees. It is 92 miles west of
Sunbury, and 190 miles east of Erie. The town is beau
tifully situated on the margin of the west branch of the
Susquehanna ricer, in the county of Clinton, and is sar
rounded by romantic and attractive scenery. The Rail
road Company are erecting an immense Locomotive
Rennd House, Repair Shops for Cars and Engines, Car
Building shop, Iron and Brass Furnaces, and Dwellings
fer the Superintendent and other officers. A splendid
Hotel, with which are connected arrangements for feeding
passengers on the most extensive scale; has been com
menced. All these buildings are of the most permanent
and substantial .character, of brick and iron, and are in
. accordance with the immense business anticipated on the
completion of this great Railroad, so long anxiously
looked for, and now an accomplished fact—the last tall
connecting the Susquehanna river with Lake Erie having
been laid on Saturday, July•fht, 1864.
A Company has been chartered by the Legislature for
supplying the town with gas and water, and the water
VFW* are nearly completed. Churches will be erected
lautediately. The situation of RENOVO is entirely
healthy, and as the dimensions of the town are limited
by nature, the value of the lots meet appreciate greatly
in the course of a few years.
EMPORIUM will certainly be the most important com
mercial point between Lock Haven and Warren, a dis
tance of 158 miles. It is near the eentre of tne railroad,
47 miles west of Renovoi, 139 miles from Sunbury and
149 miles from Erie It is near the Junction of the Drift
wood Branch of the Sinnemaboniag, with West Creek,
Portege Creek and North Creek, the Valleys of which
streams make it the most pecessibleoUnt on the Phila
delphia and Erie railroad tea Very ekteninve district of
country. The moment the projected - rEiitioad connecting
Jr with the city of Rochester, N. Y., shall be completed,
fete interior towns in the State will surpass it in business
capabilities. An excellent graded road now connects it
with Coadeelport, the seat cf Justice of Potter .county.
It is also connected with Smethport, the seat of Justice of
McKean county. Emporium is the County Seat of Cam
eron county; it has a handsome Court House, and the
Land Company have just completed a large and comma
dioui3 Hotel, which will . immediately be opened to the
public. The Railroad Company are about to erect a fiend
some and permanent Passsenger Station at a central point
near the Hotel and Court House. The place is healthy,
and excellent water is abundant. It is in. the midst of
one of the finest White, Pine regions in Pennsylvania.
As a manufacturing town it has great advantages; coal,
lumber, stone, bark for tanneries are abundant, and hs
raileaad comtnunications with the great lakes and all
points of importance in the. seaboard are unsurpassed.
This place was selected thirty years ago as a point of im
portance, and a town laid oat with the prophetic name of
EMPORIUM', but the difficulty of access has prevented
its development so entirely that it is mainly known for
the excellence of hunting and trout fishing in the vicinity.
The completion of the Philadelphia and Erie railroad
must soon make it a place orgreat importance as a distri
buting point for - goods of all kinds, and .It offers great
advantages for persons et moderate capital' who desire
to identify themselves with the early history of a thriv
ing town
Lithographic Maps of heti/ towns are now ready, and
Mr. GIDEON J. BALL, General Superintendent, will
furnish all necessary information on the premises, or by
letter.
