there nine weeks, 'and thought I was a little
better, but in a few days my dreadful com

EDITOR TELEGRAPH —Dear Sir:—From ne
cessity, I must write you a rambling letter
this morning, instead of penning events in ro
tation, as they ought to appear. In your lo
cal column I observed a paragraph about
" rain " on Saturday last on market mo7ring.
Talk about rain I Last night the win
dows of heaven" were indeed opened in this
latitude, which made the sentinels on picket
think of Noah and the flood, a thousand years
and more ago. But it was needed here, and
the air is cool and bracing, with a "gentle
gou'-west wind" whistling in the tree-tops; and
the sun shedding lustre on everything around
our camp gratuitously.
The men were buky building winter quarters
all week, and all the various " models," de.
signs, shapes and styles would do credit to a
regular architect. Yet, judging from events
of the past few hours, I believe their labor will
be in vain—for some of the men on the con
struction train, informed us that the iron and
other material would be "taken up "as far
down the road as Manassas Junction, eastward
of "Thoroughfare Gap." Notwithstanding
said rumor, the forces at Colonel Awl's head
quarters are still busy erecting barricades--
probably to prevent a sudden attack from.
Mosby's thieves, who, it was rumored, at
tempted to flank our force on the extreme
right, on the afternoon or evening of Wednes
day last. A day or two, at farthest, how
ever will explain matters in this respect.
, In! running over the country to look after
matters of interest, many useful articles of
household and kitchen furniture are picked
up, which the boys readily convert into coffee
pots, pans, &c.—utensils greatly needed.--
Davy Thomas, my friend from Fairview, picked
up quite a decent looking coffee pot; and upon
examining it closely, found a sparrow's nest
within, containing four beautiful green eggs !
"She was a. patriotic bird," remarked Davy,
" for she wanted to rear a brood in'a Union
coffee-pot ! It is almost a sin to destroy the
nest, but I must have the pot!"—and that
word must with a true soldier means something
—so the nest was aus-ga-speilt!
The hospital patients, under the admirable
treatment of Drs. Waggenseller and Anderson,
are, with one or two exceptions, improving.
There is much virtue, you will readily observe,
in skillful treatment, and proper care and at
tention.
Election day is approaching—well, Nye are
"eager for the fray," so far as Company I is
-cemented. And, from some of my intimate

two ago—" The cops die hard!" Shouldn't
wonder! Our beautiful native city ieinfested
with hard cops—that is--unprincipled ones.
Out here they die easy—they have some re
spect for the "dear told flag," and can be styled
"war Democrats'? more appropriately than
copperheads. There are some honorable and
respectable men amongst us, who are at least
discreet enough to remain quiet if they do not
believe 'in our political creed. Naught of
treason or its obnoxious antecedents are pro
claimed here, with impunity. Self-respect
and love of country are stronger than love of
party.

May, 1863, this veteran company, after hav
ing served nine months as Company A,
127th P. V., ,was mustered out of the service
of the United States. In the course of its
career, from its first organization in May,
1861, it had earned and received the plaudits.
of an admiring people in Harrisbttrg, and had
been stamped by many high in military rank
and ability as a first-class corps in drill,
discipline, .k.c. Its frequent tenders of. ser
vice to the Government won it the respect
and regard of our military authorities, and
made our citizens proud of it as a company.
When k•it was mustered out in May, 1863,
we made the notice of the fact: " The
men return to their homes for a season,
to resume or settle up their business ;
but before long ive predict that many of
this most excellent body of troops will again
respond to their country's call, and enter its
service. * * * They deserve and will re-
°Sive the plaudits of a people that have always
been proud of them." We now make the
following list showing the whereabouts of this
body of men, and to verify your prediction.
There may be a few errors committed as to
numbers of regiments, and, perhaps; here and
there, as to rank; but, in the main, we will
guarantee its correctness. We think it presents
a proud record, and one worthy of its name
and fame. By this list it will be seen that
twenty-two are members of the 201st P. V.,
and the balance scattered. It shows one
colonel, five captains, six first lieutenants.
(including one regimental quartermaster, )
six second lieutenants, three sergeant-majors,
and the balance first-sergeants, corporals,
privates, and a clerk in government employ..
Those not named are not in the service, al
though four of them, as well as some named
in this list, have served out an enlistment,.
since then, in various ranks. There are three
deceased, as follows : Samuel G. Garman,

alry ; Hezekiah J. Gilchrist, while a sergeant
in the 20th Pennsylvania Cavalry; and a pris
oner on Belle Island; Ira D. Heicher, while a
