A HOME CERTIFICATE.
The folloWing certificate is from a well-known citizen of
Harrisburg :
HARRISBURG, Aug. 30, 1864.
To TEM PUBLIC gives me groat pleasure to recom
mend to the public the medicine prepared by OIL J. J.
MoBRIDE, which he calls the " KING OF PAIN." I was
induced to use it as an external remedy fora tiruise, which
it relieved Immediately, and subsequently cured entirely.
Its success induced tne to use it internally for Diarrheea,
with which I was afflicted in a chronic form for nearly
eighteen months, and to such an extent that my kidneys
were seriously deranged. The medicine has cured me,
and certainly that is saying a great deal in its favor, when I
reflect how many other remedies I tried without experi
encing anything but temporary relief. For my part, I
shall always keep a supply of it in my house, believing as
I do that it is a most itivaluable family mean:inc.
The unexampled sale of this medicine proves It to be
thq most wonderful discovery of the ago in the medical
art
The undersigned are the sole agents for the State, and
will supply it wholesale and retail.

DYSPEPSIA, DYSPEPSIA, DYSPEPSIA.
ET.TOABETH BRANSON, of Brandywine,
Del., formerly of Old Chester, Del., do .e.ertify
that, for one year and what I suffered ewery
thing but death from that awful disease c ailed
Dyspepsia. My whole system was prosta 'Med
with weakness and nervous debility; I could
not digest my food; if I - ate even a cracker' or
the smallest amount of food, it would retntrn
just as I swallowed it; I became so costive in
my bowels that I would not have a passage i in
less than from four and often eight days; nil
der this immense suffering, my mind .seemecl
entirely to give way. I had a dreadful horror
and evil forebodings. I thought everybody
hated me, and I bated everybody; I could not
bear my husband nor my own children, every
thing appeared to be horror-stricken to me;
I had no ambition to do anything; I lost all
my love of family and home; I would ramble
and wander from place to place, but could-not
be contented; I felt that I was doomed to
hell, and that there was no heaven for me,
and was often tempted to commit suicide,
so near was my whole nervous system de
stroyed, and also my mind from that awful
complaint, Dyspepsia, that my friends thought
best to have me . placed in Dr. Eirkbride's
hospital, West Philadelphia; I remained
there nine weeks, and thought I was a little
better, but in a few days my dreadful coin
plaint was raging as bad as ever. Hearing.of
the-wonderful cures performed by Dr..Wiro
hart's Great American Dyspepsia Pills and
his treatment for Dyspepsia, my husband
called on Dr. Wishart and stated my case,to
him: He said he had no doubt he could cure
me. So in three days after I called and placed
myself under the Doctor's treatment, and in
two weeks I begaii to digest my food, and felt
that my disease was fast giving way, and I
continued to recover for about three months,
and at the present time I enjoy perfect health
of body and mind, and I most sincerely return
wir thA ks to a merciful God and Dr. Wis
hart, and to his great American Dyspepsia
Pills and Pine Tree Tar Cordial that saved me
from an Insane Asylum and premature grave.
All persons suffering with Dyspepsia are at
liberty to call on me or write, as I am - willing
to do all the good I can for suffering hu

Da. Wituurer-1 have been a constant sufferer with
Dyspepsia for the last eighteen years, during which time
I cannot say I ever endoyed a perfectly well day. There
were times when the symptoms were more aggravateci
than at others, and then it seemed it would be a great r
lief-to die. I had at all times an unpleasant feeling in - my
head, but latterly my sufferings so much increased that
I became almost unfit for business of any kind;; my mind
was continually tilled with gloomy thoughts and fore
bodings, and if I attempted to change their current by
reading, at once sensation of icy coldness in connection
with a dead weight, as it were, rested upon my brain;
also, a feeling of sickness would occur at the stomach, and
great pairtto my eyes, accompanied with which was the
continual fear of losing my reason. I also experienced
great lassitude, debility and nervousness, which made . it
difficult to walk by day or sleep at night. I became
averse to society, and disposed only to seclusion, and
having tried the skill of a number of eminent Thysiciass
of various schools, finally came to the conclusion that, for
this disease at my present age (45 years) there WBI4AO cure
in existence. But, through the inteifereaca of DiMae
Providence, to whom I devoutly oiler my thanks, I at last
found a sovereign remedy in ypur Dyspepsia Pills and
Tar Cordial, which seem to have effectually removed al
most, the last trace or, my long list of ailments and bad
feelings, and in their place health, plesseres and *dent,
meat are my everyday companions.

Trial of the 20-inch Gun at Fort
• Hamilton.
The trial of the great gun at Fort Hamilton
took place yesterday. The gun is the largest
ever cast, and its success marks an era in the
history of heavy ordnance. In order that our
readers may have some idea of the magnitude
of the gun, we give its dimensions, etc.:,
Weight of the grin when first cast: 180,000 lbs
Weight of the gun when finished..ll6,497lbs
Length of grin 20 ft 3 in
Diameter at breech 5 ft 4 in
Diameter at muzzle 2 ftlo in
Length of carriage - 22 ft
Height of carriage 8 ft
Weight of carriage 86,00011bs
Length of trunions 6 in
Diameter of triurions 18 in
Notwithstanding this immense weight of
metal,
- so nicely is its mechanism adjusted that
eight men can do the entire service, loading,
traversing, elevating, etc.
Brigadier General Howe, experimental ord
nance officer, and Major J. S. Rodman had
the general direction, while the mechanical
working of the gun was under the charge of
Captain R. Buffington, of Governor's Island.
Some delay was occasioned by-the stoppage
of the vent, which had to be cleared before
anything further could be done. To accom
plish this, Mr. W. Metcalf, Superintendent of
the Fort Pitt Foundry, where the gun was
cast, went inside the gun, and remained there
some fiftegi minutes, hard at work with an
auger, until, finally, all was clear. Two or
three percussion caps were now snapped to
try if all was right. A charge of fifty pounds
of powder was next put in, but, proving insuf
ficient to fill the chamber, was withdrawn,
and a charge of one hundred pounds substitu
ted. This charge gave only a moderate report,
and'the recoil of the gun was less than one
inoh.
A bag of hay was next procured and inseried
in the muzzle of the gun, and on this a'so
pound cartridge was placed, and both rammed
home, The ball, weighing 1,070 pounds, was
next rolled in, the gun leveled point blank,
and discharged, the ball striking the water
some 1 mile from shore and ricochetting five
times, finally sunk at a distance of nearly a
mile and a half.
=Tour reporter then, by ,invitation of Mr.
Matthews, firm of Silliman Matthews & Co.,
Old, Slip; went on board the steamer Helen
Augusta, and steamed some 2 miles from
shore to witness the effects of the shot. But
we 11101 miscalculated. The huge mass of
metal, driven by 100 pounds of powder, with
the gun at an elevation of 15 degress, went
whizzing over our heads striking some four
miles beyond us, throwing up a huge mass of
water to a great hieght. This ended the busi
ness of the day.
Among the distinguished gentlemen present
were Gen, Dyer, Chief Army Ordnance Bu
reau ; Com. H. A. Wise, Chief Navy Ordnance
Bureau; Com. Hitchcock, Brig Gen. Howe,
Maj. S. S. Rodman, Maj. Van Vliet, Quarter
master of New York ;Gen. W. S. (Bally) Smith,
Com. Rogers, of the Wellawken ; Capt. E. R.
Buffington, A. H: Emery, of the Ordnance
Bureau; Charles Knapp; Esq., proprietor of
Fort Pitt Iron Works; W. Metcalf, Esq., Su
perintendent Fort Pitt Iron Works; Peter
Cooper, F. S. Cozzens, of Washington; Orion
Blunt, Esq., and Many others.:
The trial of the gun is not yet complete,
but :from the results so far, no one doubts
that it is a complete success. It has been
christened the "Brother Xonathan."—.W.

STARTLING DISCLOSURE.
DEMOCRATIC FRAUD UPON THE SOLDIERS.
Their Letters Opened and the
'V ote Changed. " _
——o—
WASHINGTON, Oct. 26, 1884.
The Military Commission, Major General
Doubleday, President, was ordered to suspend
the trial of the blockade-traders to-day, and
proceed to Baltimore forthwith, to investi
gate and try a recently-disbovered case of most
astounding fraud and forgery connected with
the New York State soldiers' votes.
The commission will leave by the•first train
to-morrow, morning.
The charges are in brief, substituting "Mc-
Clellan " for "Lincoln" votes in the orginal
envelopes submitted by the soldiers, and in
forging names thereto,
One box, over three feet long, containing
many thousands of these fraudulent votes,
has been seized. Others are known to have
been sent to New York.
The developments in this case promise to
be of the most startling character.

WAstumyrox, Oct. 26.— , Astounding discov
eries havcyjilea made by the Government of
intended Mltds in regard to soldiers' vote. s
The grotmds of the confidence of leading
Democrats of being abli3 to cam New York
are now understood.
A systematic and wide-spread conspiracy
has been brought to light carried on by agents
here, at Baltimore, Super's Perry and in the
Army of the Potomac, under the immediate
supervision and direction of the party in that
State. Several of these agents have been
arrested, and are now in jail, and others will
be arrested as fast as proof can be collected,
and proper provision can be made for their
trial.
Men now in custody have been actively en
gaged in this business for weeks, and, as one
of the parties involved declares, forged ballots
of this kind haye been forwarded in dry-goods'
boxes full to New. York and Albany.
Ridge Holt, the Judge-Advocate-General
hashed the papers laid before him, rand hss
prepared a brief report on the subject. He
pronounces the crime thus committed to be
one of the most serious character, and it will
be dealt with as suoh by the G-overnment.
A Military Commission has already been
ordered, and will meet to-morrow morning in
Baltimore, under the Presidency - of 'Gen.

It will leave not the slightest room for doubt
that a gigantic conspiracy has been at work
for months, in maturing and executing a plan
for defrauding the soldiers of their votes, and
for overwhelming the suffrage of citizens at
home, by the forged votes of thousands of.sol
diergrwho have fallen in battle or died in the
hospitals, or who have never existed. In some
eases sealed envelopes, containing "Lincoln"
ballots have been opened, and "M'Clellan"
ballots have been substituted ; but the main
reliance of the conspirators has been in the
forgery of signatures of pretended soldiers to
papers transmitting "M'Clallan and Seymour"
votes.
The court-martial which meets to-morrow
for the purpose of trying the parties already
arrested, will make short work of the case,
and the Government will not hesitate to carry
into effect whatever sentence they may pro
nounce.
Other parties implicated will be sent before
them as rapidly as' possible; and all the
agents in the affair axe under the vigilant sur
veillance of the Government.
You must-not be surprised if,these disclo
sure and arrests should touch ome person
high in political authority.
Among other things discovered in this city,
was the headquarters of a set of gentlemen
busily engaged in filling up commissions of
agents, signed in blank, and some of the par
ties involved themsevles hold commissions.
