    The Indian War.
AN INDBGEDILFATE DIASSACRE OF WHITE MEN
LEAVENWORTH, Aug. 15.
The Atchison Press has news from Little
Blue, that the Indians, on Sunday last, com
menced an indiscriminate murder of the
whites in that section of the stage route. The
station-keepers and settlers were all leaving,
and the Overland Mail coaches had stopped
running.
ALL THE TRIPES ON THE PLAINS COLLEAGITED
FOR WAR.
ST. Louis, Aug. 15.
A dispatch from Fort Leavenworth to the
Democrat says the Indian outrages continue
in Northern Kansas. The people in the
northwestern counties have been murdered,
their crops destroyed, and their stock driven
off.
The evidence accumulates to show that all
or nearly all the tribes on the plains are banded
together for war. General Blunt has issued
orders that no arms or ammunition shall be
sold to them, and notified all officers having
authority with the Indians not to allow them
to leave their reservations for the West, and
that such act will be taken as a proof of their
hostility, and treated accordingly.
CROPS DESTROYED BY GRASSHOPPERS,
LEAVENWORTH, August 15.—The Kokotah
Union of the 2d says everything in the nature
of crops in the Missouri Valley, from Fort
Pierre to Sioux City, has been ruined in the
short space of two days by grasshoppers, and
that the supply of food must be imported for
the subsistence of the people during the en
suing year.
Au Expedition up the James
River.
WASIIINGTON, August 15.
The mail boat from City Point to-day; re
ports that on Saturday afternoon a body of
our troops embarked on transports at City
Point, and moved up the river during the
night, and, under cover of the fire of the gun
boats, had effected a landing near Dutch Gap.
The object of this movement is stated to be
the dislodgement of a considerable force of
the enemy who had entrenched themselves on
the river, and possibly also as a reconnoissance
to ascertain what troops Lee has before Rich
mond, and if he is sending any considerable
reinforcements to Early. Heavy firing was
going on when the Vanderbilt loft, both can
nonading and musketry.

ENTITLED TO PENSIONS —The Commissioner
of Pensions has decided that hundred-day
volunteers are entitled to pensions in all re
spects the same as three years' men. He says:
"The law under which all pensions based on
service in the present war are allowed, is un
equivocal in its language, making no distinc
tion between those engaging for a longer or
shorter period."
Yr.srranex we briefly noticed an accident
that occurred at the railroad, in the lower end
of the city, by which Mr. Michael Burke was
seriously injured. Our paper had 'scarcely
left the press until Mr. B. died, from the ef
fects of his wounds. In addition to the -crash
ing of iais foot, the physicians at once discov
ered that he was severely injured internally,.
and could not recover. His death occurred
Within two hours after the accident befel him.
Thus has paused away, suddenly, one of our
wealthiest raitizens. His age was about sev
enty.
NEW N:LTIONAL TKEATEE.—There is already
a decided change perceptible in this beautiful
Temple of the Drama. The improvements
which. are being effected will, we feel confi
dent, ensure the approval of the most critical,
One, of the prominent conveniences will be
the entire separation of the parquette entrance
from that of the gallery, and the having a
distinct ticket office for each place. It is the
intention of the managers to make this a
permanent resort for our theatrical going
community. There will be found in the com
pany which has been engaged, some of the
most talented artists, the names of whom
will appear in due time. Look out for open
ing night, when the cry will be, On! on! to
the National!
LARCENY. —Herbert Bell was before the
Mayor this morning, charged with the larceny
of $456 from B. F. Houser. Both these men
are colored, and board at Mrs. Johnson's, in
Tanner's alley. Last evening certain white
men went to the hoarding house to obtain
money from Hclitser. The latter placed his
greenback's in Bell's hands for safekeeping,
in order that lie could deny having any in his
own possession. Houser afterwards.retired,
and Bell visited his room several times during
the night, and stated to Mrs. Johnson, on vis
iting the room the third time, that he was
"going up to give Houser his money." Again
he went to EL's room ; this time he awoke
Houser and told him that his money was gone.
H. denies that the money was given to him,
and charges Bell with the theft. Tim) latter
was committed to prison, for court, this
morning, after a hearing before the Mayor.

WELCODIE TO THE FAVOILITES.—A v(.3ry large
andience assembled at Brant's Hall, last even
ing, to welcome Rouse's Star Combination
Company, who gave its first entertaimment of
the season. To say that all present were de
lighted with the performance, would but im
perfectly express the feelings of the auditors.
The great play of Lucretia Borgia was ren
dered in a style that surpassed eve. ry former en
tertainment given by the troupe, last season,
which every person then pronou - aced the best
ever given here. The celebratei t tragedienne,
Miss Fanny B. Price, is truly wit hout a rival in
her great character of the Pois oner, and Mr.
Hanchett, as the Duke of Fern - tra, fully main
tained his reputation as a perfect tragedian.
The other characters were so well sustained
as to render them faultless. in the closing
farce, Ur. Rouse,. the nalvalled comedian,
was as funny as ever, and. was greeted with
rounds of applause. He is a great favorite
with our people, and as a performer on the
stage, and a gentleman off the stage, has be
come endeared to all who have made his ac
quaintance.
•
To-night will be 'presented the thrilling
play entitled Love's Sacrif ice , with Miss Price
as Margaret Elmore, and Mr. Hanchett as
Matthew Elmore. 'The whole company will
appear in this beau tiful play, which is one
calculated to draw an immense . audience.—
A RIM in the Darl,c will be the closing piece,
with Mr. nous' a as Sam Pettibone. We

16,000 FEET OF LUMBER PER DAY !
COMPELLED to decline many orders for
Mills and Engines the 'past year, from utter ina
bility to fill them we resolved to increase our already
large facilities for their Manulacture. Very recently we
nurchmed the entire property of the Newark Machine
Works at Newark, 011ie, and at this moment both estab
lisbnients are in full operation. We will try in the future
to fl l all orders pro rptly.
The lumber trade was never as prosperous, and money
making mat present, and will no doubt continue to be so
for a generation to come. Energetic operatives with any
thing like good logs, can cut 250,000 feet per month, with
Biandys' Mills. Our Mills are peculiar. They are Blau
dys'. Are p irfectly equipped for work. Ample printed
instructions, with engraved ground pien for their man
agement, go with each, and every effort is made to put
inexperienced operators on a par with those who have
operated them.
Circulars. with descriptons and illustrations, and re
ports of operators forwarded to any address.

* * * In the last three months, (working five days
a week) we have cut 525,000 feet of white oak on our
BUNDY MILL. In Juno, 190,000 feet. The lumber i
pronounced by the Baltimore Inspector to be the best de
livered in that city this summer. The Bland} - Engine has
done well, and I can now say it is a perfect success. Yes
terday, the 29th of Juno, we cut 16,000 feet of oak.

* * I have run my BLANDYMILL four years, andsold
out for more than it cost me when no a.. As we had never
tried how much we could cut on it in a day, we concluded
we would do sg the last day we run it, prior' to delivery
to new owner. I measured it as if goitre to sell it, and
found it was 12,104 feet, mostly cut from logs 8 to 12 feet
long, small and very hard. The BLANDY MILL is the
Milt for Me, and . everybody e'se that knows anything
about them, in my opinion. A. SHUWALtakt.
