Da. War. H. Eon - % having been appointed
a Surgeon in the army, has resigned his plaCe
in the'city council. His resignation has been
accepted, and an election will soon be held to
till the vacancy.
OUR hotels and boarding houses are crowd
ed to overflowing, owing to the arrival of the
members of the Legislature, and hundreds of
citizens of Cbambersburg, in addition to the
usual Amount of transient visitors.

MERE is but little doing in police circles.—
A number of drunks have been fined and dis
charged. A man named Aaron Kincade was
committed to prison, yesterday, for killing, by
fast driving, a horse belonging to Davis' liv
ery stable.
Cacao= WITH LARCENY. —Christiana Leece,
a young woman, has been arrested, charged
with the larceny of a quantity of clothing
from Mrs. Jordan. She appeared before His
Honor, the Mayor, and was recommitted for
a further hearing.
STOLEN MAZE AND BUGGY, —Yesterday a
lame man called at Swartz's livery stable in
this city, and hired a team: for a short time.--
Since then he has not been heard from. Mr.
Swartz offera a reward of $4O for the recovery
of the stolen property, a full description of
which will be found in our advertising col
twins.
ARAFAT, OF A SUPPOSED . BOUNTY jUMPES. —A
man belonging to Capt. Sutliff 's company has
been attested by the military authorities, on
a charge of being a bounty jumper. It iS al
leged that he has deserted several times, froni
various companies, and that he was once sen
tenced to death, but escaped from the guard.
He has been committed for a further h eating.
Tom; are DOG. —We learn from one wno•
witnessed the occurrence, that a small child,
belonging to one of our citizens, was attacked
by a fe:rocious dog, a day or two ago, and re
ceived serious injuries. Ifs head and face
were terribly lacerated, a portion of its
was torn off, and its eyes narrowly escaped
destruction. Bat slight hopes are entertained
of the recovery of the child. Of course the
dog was killed, but its death does not atone
for the injuries sustained by the child. ThO
owners of ferocious dogs should be compelled
to have them secured, or pay dearly for their
violations of the laws. . .

rebels, when they re-occupied that place,•on
-Friday last, has already been announced in

Hyde, who was taken to Early's headquarters.
General Early affirmed to lir. Hyde that he
(Fmy) had ordered the burning of Chtynbers
burg. That the General made this :assertion
there can be no doubt. We have received the
facts of the case from Rev. Irvin H. Torrence,
(Secretaii of the East Pennsylvania .
House,) who obtained his information this

Meeting to Raise Bounties.
The citizens of • the city of Handsburg met
in the Court. House last evening, fetr the pur
pose of taking the neccessary steps to call
upon the Common Council and inditce them
to offer proper bounties for the purpolse of en
listing sufficient men to fill the quota; under
the late call of the President.
On motion of Mr. 8.'13. Child, Maj. David
Mumma was chosen President. Mr. Mumma
explained the object of the meeting in a plain
and business like manner, and his remarks
were well received by the audience.
On motion of Mr. J. D. Boati, the foll Owing
gentlemen were chosen Vice presidents, viz:
First Ward, Alex. Koser.
Second " Wagner.
Third " W. W. Jennings.
Fourth " John. Brady.
Fifth " Levi Weaver, Sr.
Sixth " Jolnr , Stirestel. •
On motion of Mr. Joshua Wiestling, John
A. Smull and Thomas J. Osier were chosen
Secretaries.
Hon. J. C. Kunkel, being called upon, ad
dressed the meeting.
Mr. S. S. Child offered the following
Resolved, That the Common Council of
the city of Harrisburg, Pa., be requested to
- offer a local bounty of $2OO to each recruit
who may be properly credited to any ward
in the city of Harrisburg, to fill the quota of
said city, on the last - call of the President of
the United States for 500,000. men.

dressed the meeting upon the resolution.
The resolution was . unanimously agreed to.
Mr. Weaver, ~Sr,,Aaffered the following res
olution :
Res4ved, That: any ward which has already
furnished volunteers under said call, and has
been properly credited, shall receive a sum
not exceeding $2OO for all such credits, upon
the presentation of proper certificates.
Mr. Small offered as an amendment:
Resolved, That . this meeting recommend
the Town Council to appropriate to any ward
- which has already, or may hereafter furnish
volunteers tinder said call, who have been
properly credited to the quota thereof, the
sum of s2ooJor, each volunteer, upon pre
sentation of - the proper vouchers, and that
each person who shall have or may hereafter
ftirnish a substitute and credit the some to
their respective wards, shall receive the sum
of $2OO.
Mr. Wiestling moved that a committee of
two citizens from each ward, in connectiort
with the officers of Os meeting, be appointed •
to wait on the town council and present the
resolutions of the meeting. Agreed to.
The President appointed the following gen

Second Ward—D. W. Gross, Valentine
Hummel, Sr.
Third Ward—Philip Dougherty, Joshua T

NOTIQE is hereby given that subscriptions
will.e received by the Treasurer of the
United States, the several Assistant Treasu
rers and designated Depositaries,' and by the
National Banks designated and qualified as
Depositaries and,'Fin' andel Agents, for Trea
sury Notes payable three years from August
15, 1864, bearing interest at the rate of seven
and three-tenths percent. per mammy with
semi-annual coupons attached,' payable in
lawful money.
These notes will be convertible atthe option
of the holder at maturity, into six , per , cent.
gold bearing.bonds, zedeemableafter five and:
payable twenty years from August 1.5, 1867.
The Notes will be issued in - denominations
of, fifty, one hundred, five hundrecl;i . one thou
sand, and five thousand dollars, , and will be
batted in blank, or payable to order,' as; may.
be dirliqbziil by the subsetibers.
All subscriptions mast be tor fifty .dollars,
or some multiple of fifty dollars. - • -
Duplicate Certificates will bq *Tied for all
deposits. The party depositi,i4imiSteridorse
upon the original certificatethadenomination
of notes required, . and Whether they are to be
issued in blank or payable to order. When
so endorsed it must be left with the officer re
ceiving the deposit, to be forwarded to this
Department.
The notes - will be trrnstuitted to the owners
free of transportation charges as soon after
the receipt of the original Oertiticatea of De
posit as they cau to prepared. '
Interest will be allowed to August 15 on all
deposits made prior to that date, and will be
paid by the Department upon receipt of the
original certificates.
As the notes draw interest from August 15, .
persons making deposits subsequent to that
date must pay the interest accrued from date
of note to date of deposit.
Parties depositing twenty-five thousand
dollarii and upwards for these notes at any
one time will be allowed a commission of one
quarter of one per cent., which will be paid
by this Department. upon the- receipt of a
bill for the amount, certified to by the officer
with whom- the deposit was made. Node= ductions for commissions must be made from
the deposits.
Officers receiving deposits will see that the
proper endorsements `Are made upon the
original certificates. -;
All officers authorized to receive deposits
are requested to give to applicants all desired
information, and affard every facility for
making subscriptions., •
