They were decidedly the largest we have seen this season. eiNTERIIIIIIr Mvsxo Hal, is having a very successful season. Large crowds congregate there nightly to witness the fine bills pre sented. The managers are doing a profitable business, and, as gentlemen and performers, are worthy of patronage. EurammoN.—The number of emigrants arriving at New York, according to the latest returns, is at the rate of 4,271 a week, or about 220,000 a year. Possibly, the gross emigration of the year will be something under this; but it is safe to reckon it at two hundred thousand. OCIS citizens are informed that they can ba supplied with fresh produce from the Key stone Nursery, on Tuesday and Friday morn ings of each week, in addition to the regular markets, by applying at the lower market house, between the hours of nine rind twelve o'clock. =EMS SUNDAY DRUMM. —QUite ft number of drunken individuals were to be seen on our streets yesterday. I===l SLIM0111;13 HALL. —The company performing .t, Sanford's, under the management of Harry Wells ik Co., has been doing an extensive business. The entertainments arc said to be of a character never before witnessed there, and such as can be witnessed by the most fas tidious. The Hall is nightly filled, and all speak in flattering terms of the performances. Oun citizens should not forget the mass meeting, to bo held in the Court House, this evening, for the purpose of determining wheth er the city council should offer a bounty to raise the quotas of the wards under the - late call for volunteers. Some of the wards will not be able to avoid the conscription if left to fill their quotas themselves. The meeting will be one of more than ordinary importance, and one in whielrevery citizen is interested. Ev erybody should attend. Goon NEWS 1,--Rouse is Coming:—The play going population of our city will be gratified to learn that their favorite showman, Wm. A. Rouse, Esq.,—whose entertainments were witnessed by thousands upon thousands of spectators here, last winter and spring—is coming, and will, on Monday evening next, in troduoe to our citizens, at Brant's Hall, a first-class• company of performers, among whom we might name the great loading star actress, Miss Fanny Price; the celebrated tra gedian, Mr. D. Hanchett; and the very popu lar actor, Mr. W. H. Meeker, together with a number of other new performers. besides the old favorites, who are so well known here. Mr. Rouse, the great comedian, will be on hand at each entertainment, with his budget of fun. It is unnecessary for us to urge our citizens to patronize the popular manager of this fine company. Tne mere announcement of his opening entertainment will ensure a full house, and we predict that the season I will be a long and profitable one to Mr. Rouse, and one highly gratifying to the people of Harrisburg. WASHINGTON PENN, Captain. jy2B-tf The River Susquehanna. The water in the Susquehanna has risen within the last two days to such an extent, that all possibility of fording it with cavalry or wagons has ceased. We hardly think it possible that any rebel cavalry or artillery could have forded the river at this or any other point, when it was at its lowest stage ten days ago, but all danger is past now, for which we sincerely thank a kind providence who has blessed us with an abundance of rain within the last week. At this season of the year, the river generally continues to rise, and we have no fear that it will again he low, as it has been during the summer. I=l One Year's Service! Verbeke Guards! A mass meeting of the oitizens of Harris butg will bo held at the Court House this (Monday) evening, August Bth, with the view of petitioning the city council to make an ap propriation to secure the filling up of the quotas of all the wards in tho city of Harris burg. Under the plan adopted of assessing respectively the citizens of eacfr ward, several of the wards will be unable to fill their quotas, for the reason that the great majority of the citizens thereof are working men, whose in comes prevent them from making extravagant subscriptions. It is hoped that every man interested in the draft will be present. A Rebel Scoundrel Caught. William D. WWII, son of Dr. M'Gill of Hagerstown, was caught by the Union scouts on Friday evening last, near the State line. M'Gill says that he belongs to the First Mary land cavalry, and has been in service for three years past. We understand that when he was brought to Ghambersburg, yesterday, he was at once recognized as one of the leaders of the M'Causland houseburners who destroyed that doomed place. The residents of that portion of the State all recognize M'Gill as a bad man, and we hope that the Government will treat him with severity as be seems to have made himself especially obnoxious to Union men. MGM was lodged in our jail last evening. Isaac Bolan, J. S. 011 is and S. J. Harris, all belonging to the 6th North Carolina regiment were also committed to jail at the same time. The parties came into our lines near Cham betsburg as desortors from the rebel army. NEW Tuzirsz.--Messrs.
